6th National Rafting Championship titled The Ultimate River Battle begins at Shibnote in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. Event is organised by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department with Doda District Administration. It is being held on the Chenab River known for challenging rapids and scenic landscape. Championship aims to showcase top rafting talent and promote adventure and eco tourism. It will test endurance, teamwork and river navigation skills over four days. The event is expected to boost local economy and position Jammu and Kashmir as a major adventure tourism hub.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated National Divyangjan Cricket Sports Festival 2026 in Bhopal. Theme is “Not Out @ 100” and 350 Divyang players from 25 states will play cricket continuously for 100 hours to create record. It is first event of its kind in the world with non-stop 100-hour cricket. Event is dedicated to birth centenary of social reformer Kushabhau Thakre. Festival will run day and night till 26 February. Divyang term reflects inner strength and willpower as highlighted by Prime Minister.

Argentine tennis player Tomas Martin Etcheverry won his maiden ATP Tour title by clinching the Rio Open (ATP 500) title in Brazil. He defeated Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo in the final with a scoreline of 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-4 to secure the biggest title of his career. This triumph marked Etcheverry’s first ATP crown after finishing runner-up in three previous tour-level finals. During the tournament, he also achieved a milestone by recording his 100th tour-level match win.

Tennis player Jannik Sinner won his first Indian Wells title by defeating Daniil Medvedev 7-6(6), 7-6(4) in the final played in California. The Italian produced a strong performance with 28 winners and 10 aces. With this victory, Sinner became only the third player to win all six hard-court ATP Masters 1000 titles, joining Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. The win was also his first title of 2026, extending his Masters 1000 winning streak to 11 matches, while Medvedev reached the final after defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-final but finished runner-up for the third time at Indian Wells

Sikkim has been selected as the host for the 49th Yonex Sunrise Junior National Badminton Championship 2026 (U-19, Individual & Team). The championship is scheduled to be held from 14th to 21st November 2026. The tournament is organised under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India (BAI). Payal Nag, an 18-year-old from Odisha, became the world’s first limbless (quadruple amputee) archery champion. She lost all four limbs in an electrocution accident at age eight but rebuilt her life through determination. She developed a unique technique using a custom prosthetic arm, shoulder, and mouth to shoot arrows. She won gold at the World Para Archery Series Final 2026 in Bangkok, defeating Sheetal Devi. Her achievement symbolizes resilience, innovation, and excellence in para sports.

C. D. Gopinath, former India Test cricketer and part of India’s first-ever Test victory, passed away in Chennai at the age of 96. He was the last surviving member of the team that achieved India’s historic first Test win in 1952. Gopinath made his Test debut against England cricket team in 1951 at Brabourne Stadium and played his last match in 1960 at Eden Gardens. In 8 Tests, he scored 242 runs, while in First-Class cricket he amassed 4259 runs with 9 centuries. He was India’s oldest Test cricketer; globally second oldest after Neil Harvey. After his demise, Chandrakant Patankar becomes India’s oldest living Test cricketer.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports organised a nationwide “Nari Shakti Vandan Run”. The event was held across seven cities: Delhi, Cuttack, Patna, Mumbai, Indore, Bengaluru, and Jaipur. It aimed to promote women-led development and citizen participation under the vision of Viksit Bharat. The run covered 2–3 km at prominent public locations, with participation from students, professionals, and sportspersons. The Para Elan initiative is a three-year India–France collaboration launched by the French Institute in India and the Paralympic Committee of India to promote inclusive education and para sports. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Satya Prakash Sangwan (PCI) and Gregor Trumel (IFI) in the presence of Thierry Mathou. The programme aims to reach around 10,000 students through awareness campaigns, workshops, and interactions with para-athletes.
