Namitbir Singh Walia from Jalandhar, Punjab, has become an International Master (IM) in Chess after securing 4th place at the 3rd Annemasse International Masters Tournament in France. He began playing chess at age six and started professional coaching at age seven in 2012. His early coach was Kanwarjit Singh, who trained him until 2020, after which he received advanced coaching. Namitbir is a student of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Delhi, and winner of the Senior State FIDE Rating Open Chess Championship 2025. He is the second player from Punjab to earn the IM title, following Dushyant Sharma in February 2022.

On 2nd November 2025, India’s Women’s Cricket Team won its first-ever ICC Women’s ODI World Cup title, defeating South Africa by 52 runs at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai. The ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 was held from September 30 to November 2, 2025. Shefali Verma (21 years) was named Player of the Match. Deepti Sharma became Player of the Tournament.

Notes:
India’s Under-19 cricket team will start their 2026 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup campaign against the United States on January 15 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The tournament will be co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia from January 15 to February 6 with 16 teams playing 41 matches. India is placed in Group A with the USA, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, playing all group matches at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.

International Cricket Council (ICC) launched a new eight-team global event called the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy after the success of the Women’s World Cup in India. The inaugural edition will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 20–30 November as part of a new three-tier development pathway to boost women’s cricket. The competing teams are Thailand, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, UAE, Scotland, Namibia, Tanzania, and Uganda. The recent Women’s ODI World Cup saw India win its maiden title, drawing 500 million viewers and record stadium attendance.

India recently won the inaugural T20 Blind Women’s World Cup 2025 by defeating Nepal by seven wickets in the final at the P Sara Oval, Colombo. Nepal scored 114/5, and India successfully chased 117/3 in just 12 overs, showing complete dominance with Nepal hitting only one boundary. Phula Saren was the top scorer for India with 44 not out, guiding the team to victory. India entered the final after defeating Australia in the first semifinal, while Nepal beat Pakistan in the second semifinal.

In Badminton, Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen won the Australian Open 2025 men’s singles title in Sydney, marking his first title of the year. He defeated 26th-ranked Japanese player Yushi Tanaka 21-15, 21-11 in the final. Lakshya is a 2021 World Championships bronze medallist, showcasing his high-level consistency. His last title was a Super 300 in Lucknow in 2024, and a top-tier title had eluded him since the Canada Open 2024. He earlier came close at the Hong Kong Super 500 in September 2025, finishing runner-up before securing this major win.

Ahmedabad has been formally awarded the hosting rights of the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The decision was approved by delegates from 74 Commonwealth nations at the General Assembly in Glasgow, United Kingdom. This will be the second time India hosts the Games, after New Delhi in 2010, and supports India’s ambition to host the Olympics in 2036. Ahmedabad has upgraded sports infrastructure and the 2030 Games will feature 15–17 sports, celebrating Commonwealth sporting tradition.

Rajasthan United Football Club (FC) won the 41st All India Governor’s Gold Cup International Football Tournament 2025 at Paljor Stadium. They defeated Services Football Team (FT) 1-0 in the final, with Joseph Lalvenhima scoring the only goal. Joseph Lalvenhima was awarded Man of the Match, while Naoba Meitei of Rajasthan United was Man of the Tournament Rajasthan United received Rs 3 lakh, trophy, and medals; runners-up got Rs 2 lakh, trophy, and medals.

Dubai is hosting the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Under-19 Asia Cup 2025, starting from 12 December. The opening match features India against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the ICC Academy Ground. Eight teams are participating, divided into two groups. Group A includes India, UAE, Pakistan and Malaysia. Group B includes Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Nepal. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals, with the final scheduled on 21st December 2025.

A 70-foot iron statue of football legend Lionel Messi has been unveiled at Lake Town, South Dum Dum, Kolkata, West Bengal, by Sree Bhumi Sporting Club. The statue depicts Messi holding the FIFA World Cup trophy; final surface work and area preparations are ongoing. The statue is part of a tribute ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The project received support from West Bengal government authorities.
