India will host the Boxing World Cup (men’s and women’s) for the first time from November 13-24, 2025 in Greater Noida. The World Boxing Congress will be held on November 23, 2025 in Greater Noida. The event will be held at Vijay Pathik Sports Complex with around 450 boxers from at least 80 countries and 150 officials. India previously hosted Women’s World Boxing Championship in 2018 and 2023 and World Boxing Congress in 2017.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the mascot and logo for the 11th Asian Aquatics Championship. The event will be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from September 28 to October 11, 2025. The mascot is named ‘Jalveer,’ symbolizing water sports and aquatic spirit. The championship will serve as a qualification event for the 2026 Asian Games. The championship is a historic milestone for Indian aquatics and a chance for athletes to compete with Asia’s best.

India won the Asia Cup Hockey 2025 beating South Korea 4-1 in the final. This is India’s fourth Asia Cup title and first in eight years. The win also secured India’s spot in the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup in Netherlands and Belgium. Malaysia beat China 4-1 for third place. The Asia Cup Hockey 2025 was held from August 29 to September 7 in Rajgir, Bihar.

Recently, the Prime Minister congratulated the Indian Women’s Hockey Team for winning the Silver Medal at the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025. The final was played in Hangzhou, China, where China defeated India 4-1 to lift the trophy. With this victory, China qualified directly for the 2026 Hockey World Cup to be held in Belgium and the Netherlands. This was China’s third Asia Cup title after 1989 (Hong Kong) and 2009 (Bangkok). India secured silver, while Japan won bronze.

The Asian Cadet Cup India-2025 was inaugurated at Manaskhand Hall, Indira Gandhi International Sports Stadium, Haldwani, Uttarakhand. The event is organised by the Fencing Association of India under the Asian Fencing Confederation. The five-day competition will continue until 23 September 2025, featuring over 250 athletes, including 150 from India. Fencing has rapidly gained popularity in India, inspired by achievements of Arjuna Awardees at Commonwealth and Asian Games.

From September 27 to October 5, 2025, New Delhi is hosting the World Para Athletics Championships for the first time. The venue is Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, with over 1,000 athletes from 100+ nations. This marks India’s debut as host and one of the largest para-sport events in the country. The Championships are the biggest para-athletics competition after the Paralympic Games. Events include sprints, relays, long-distance races, jumps, throws, and other track and field disciplines. India’s medal tally has improved from 2 silvers at Doha 2015 to 17 medals at Kobe 2024.

England all-rounder Chris Woakes announced retirement from international cricket on 30 September 2025. He made his debut in 2011 and played 217 matches for England across formats. Woakes took 396 wickets and scored 3705 runs in his career. He was part of England’s 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup-winning team, taking 16 wickets including 3 in the final vs New Zealand. He also won the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Sri Lanka and India will co-host the first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup – Cricket for the Blind from 11 to 23 November 2025. The tournament will open in New Delhi with inauguration and five matches, followed by four matches in Bengaluru. Colombo, Sri Lanka, will host the concluding leg with 15 matches, including semi-finals, final, and closing ceremony on 23rd November.

Judo player Linthoi Chanambam made history by winning India’s first-ever medal at the Judo Junior World Championships in Lima, Peru in 2025. She is 19 years old and competed in the women’s 63 kilogram category. Chanambam won the bronze medal by defeating Joni Geilen from the Netherlands. Earlier, she lost her final Group D match to So Morichika of Japan. This achievement marks a historic moment for Indian Judo on the world stage.

Recently, Cape Verde made history by becoming the second-smallest country, after Iceland in 2018, to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. In contrast, India failed to qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup after losing to world-ranked 158th Singapore in Goa. Cape Verde, also known as Cabo Verde, is an archipelago of 10 islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It lies about 620 kilometres off the west coast of Africa, named after Cape Verde in Senegal.
