On 4 February 2026, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) elected Soraya Aghaei as its first female member from Iran. She became the 107th IOC member through a 95–2 vote and is the youngest current representative at 30 years of age. She is only the third Iranian International Olympic Committee (IOC) member and the first from Iran since 2004. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is an exclusive body of former athletes, sports leaders, royals, diplomats, industrialists, and cultural figures. Aghaei joined the IOC during the presidency of Kirsty Coventry, the first female IOC President in 132 years.

The Winter Olympics 2026, officially the 25th Winter Olympic Games, are known as Milano Cortina 2026. The Games will be held under the supervision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Italy will host the Olympics, marking its fourth time hosting the Olympic Games. Events will take place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, famous winter sports cities in northern Italy. The Games aim to promote sportsmanship, global unity, and cultural exchange. The official logo reflects modern design, creativity, and unity between the two host cities. Jharkhand’s women’s team won the gold medal in the Women’s Category at the Para Throwball National Federation Cup 2026. They defeated host Rajasthan 21–17 in a closely fought final held at Jhunjhunu. The tournament was conducted from February 3 to 5, 2026, and featured high-quality competition and strong tactical play. In the Men’s Category, Andhra Pradesh won the gold medal, while Telangana finished as runners-up. Haryana secured the bronze medal in the men’s event.

The 22nd Senior, Junior and Sub-Junior National Mountain Bike Cycling Championship is scheduled to take place at Roing, Arunachal Pradesh from 12 to 15 February 2026. The event is organised under the aegis of Cycling Federation of India and hosted by Cycling Association of Arunachal Pradesh. Cyclists from various states and institutions across the country will participate. It is a prestigious and highly competitive national-level championship. The participating team will be guided by a Coach-cum-Manager during the competition.

The Indian Army will host the first-ever International Military Adventure Challenge Cup (IMACC) 2026 from 18–23 February in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas. The event will feature military teams from India and seven friendly foreign countries: Bhutan, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Saudi Arabia. Indian participants include teams from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). IMACC 2026 will involve a week-long series of adventure and endurance competitions testing physical fitness, mental resilience, teamwork, leadership, and decision-making under pressure.

India’s Renu Singh topped the women’s 21-km event at the second Aizawl International Half Marathon on February 14, 2026. She secured the top position with a time of 1:21:22, followed by Ethiopia’s Tsige Debay Tadese and Bahrain’s Marta Hirpato Yota. The race was held at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl, Mizoram. Kenya’s Kemboi Kevin Kiprono won the men’s 21 kilometre race at the Aizawl International Half Marathon 2026. Around 3,000 runners participated, including 16 elite international athletes. Participants came from Kenya, Ethiopia, Bahrain, United Kingdom and France along with runners from across India.

The Football for Schools (F4S) initiative was highlighted at PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dakshin Dinajpur, West Bengal. The Football for Schools programme is an initiative of Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It aims to support education, development and empowerment of children through football. It promotes life skills and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In India, it is implemented by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, with support from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Sports Authority of India (SAI).

India finished with 5 medals at the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 held in Bangkok, Thailand from 8–15 March 2026. The medal tally included 1 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze, showcasing strong performance by young boxers. Chandrika Pujari was the star performer, winning gold in the women’s 51 kg category. She defeated Mardonova Nazokat of Uzbekistan in the final. The victory came through a unanimous decision, reflecting her dominance in the bout. Her performance highlighted excellent technical skills and control throughout the match. The event featured top emerging boxing talents from across the world.

India will host the World Indoor Athletics Championships 2028 for the first time at the Kalinga Stadium, marking a major milestone for Indian athletics. The hosting rights were awarded by World Athletics during the World Athletics Council meeting held in Torun. The event will be conducted at a state-of-the-art indoor facility, highlighting India’s improving sports infrastructure and global readiness.
