The Football for Schools (F4S) initiative was highlighted at PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dakshin Dinajpur, West Bengal. The Football for Schools programme is an initiative of Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It aims to support education, development and empowerment of children through football. It promotes life skills and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In India, it is implemented by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, with support from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Sports Authority of India (SAI).

Uttarakhand hosted the 25th edition of the All India Police Water Sports Cluster Championship 2026 at Tehri Lake from 8 to 12 April 2026. The event is organised under the aegis of the Indo Tibetan Border Police. More than 440 athletes from 19 police teams, including state police and central armed forces, are participating. A total of 52 events such as canoeing, rowing, and kayaking will be conducted. The championship provides a platform for police personnel to showcase sporting talent and enhance inter-force camaraderie.

Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the 87th Inter-State Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championship 2026 in Dehradun. The event was held at the Multipurpose Sports Hall, Parade Ground, marking Uttarakhand’s first time hosting this national-level tournament. Uttarakhand is emerging as a sports hub, with strong performance in the 38th National Games (103 medals).

Aronyak Ghosh has become India’s 95th GM (Grandmaster) after achieving his final norm at the Bangkok Chess Club Open with a score of 7/9. He secured his third and final GM norm after a four-year journey since his first norm, showcasing persistence and consistency. Known for creative and unconventional opening strategies, he gained attention for his unique playing style and victories against strong opponents. He earlier won a bronze medal at the U-16 World Youth Championship and also at the Pune National Championship (2023) via the Buchholz tie-break system.

Egypt is hosting an ISSF Junior World Cup (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun) in Cairo from April 19 to 27, 2026. The event is taking place at the Egypt International Olympic City, featuring 284 athletes from 27 member federations. The event is organized by the International Shooting Sport Federation and includes rifle, pistol, and shotgun disciplines. India has sent a strong 71-member contingent, with 58 athletes already participating in the competition.

Ritvik Gupta from Jammu and Kashmir won the Under-17 Boys National title at the 87th Inter-State Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championships. The championship was organised under the Table Tennis Federation of India and held in Dehradun. In the final, he defeated Sarthak Arya of Odisha in a close 4–3 match. Ritvik became the first player from Jammu & Kashmir to win a national U-17 boys title in table tennis.

Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya attended the 75th anniversary of the National Rifle Association of India. He launched a nationwide grassroots programme to introduce 7.5 lakh school and college students to shooting. The programme is based on a “10-shot experience” to promote early exposure to the sport. It aims to prepare young talent for the 2028 Summer Olympics. The initiative will be implemented with institutions like Central Board of Secondary Education and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. A digital platform called NRAI Athlete App was launched for athlete registration, certification, and performance tracking.

Sourav Kothari won the IBSF World Billiards Championship title in Carlow. He defeated fellow Indian player Pankaj Advani in the final match. The victory marked Sourav Kothari’s second consecutive IBSF World Billiards Championship title. He dedicated the title to his late father Manoj Kothari, who was also a former World Billiards champion. The International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) is the world governing body for snooker and English billiards.

5th Asia Cup Bridge Championships will be held from June 21–27 in Goa. The tournament is being organised by the Bridge Federation of India. The event will take place at Taj Cidade de Goa Horizon and will feature participation from over 20 countries. Countries such as India, China, and Japan are expected to participate. Competitions will include men’s, women’s, mixed, senior team events, and pairs competitions. India has won 20 medals in the history of the Asia Cup Bridge Championships.
