She developed a unique technique using a custom prosthetic arm, shoulder, and mouth to shoot arrows. She won gold at the World Para Archery Series Final 2026 in Bangkok, defeating Sheetal Devi. Her achievement symbolizes resilience, innovation, and excellence in para sports.

C. D. Gopinath, former India Test cricketer and part of India’s first-ever Test victory, passed away in Chennai at the age of 96. He was the last surviving member of the team that achieved India’s historic first Test win in 1952. Gopinath made his Test debut against England cricket team in 1951 at Brabourne Stadium and played his last match in 1960 at Eden Gardens. In 8 Tests, he scored 242 runs, while in First-Class cricket he amassed 4259 runs with 9 centuries. He was India’s oldest Test cricketer; globally second oldest after Neil Harvey. After his demise, Chandrakant Patankar becomes India’s oldest living Test cricketer.

India finished its campaign at the Asian Boxing Championships 2026 with 16 medals (5 gold, 3 silver, 8 bronze). Vishvanath Suresh won gold (50 kg), defeating Daichi Iwai 5–0, ending India’s 5-year wait for a men’s Asian title. Sachin Siwach secured silver (60 kg) after a close 2–3 loss to Orazbek Assylkulov. Egypt is hosting an ISSF Junior World Cup (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun) in Cairo from April 19 to 27, 2026. The event is taking place at the Egypt International Olympic City, featuring 284 athletes from 27 member federations. Ritvik Gupta from Jammu and Kashmir won the Under-17 Boys National title at the 87th Inter-State Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championships. Ritvik became the first player from Jammu & Kashmir to win a national U-17 boys title in table tennis.

Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya attended the 75th anniversary of the National Rifle Association of India. He launched a nationwide grassroots programme to introduce 7.5 lakh school and college students to shooting. The programme is based on a “10-shot experience” to promote early exposure to the sport. It aims to prepare young talent for the 2028 Summer Olympics. The initiative will be implemented with institutions like Central Board of Secondary Education and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. A digital platform called NRAI Athlete App was launched for athlete registration, certification, and performance tracking.
