He broke the previous record held by Anish Sarkar of Kolkata, who achieved it at 3 years, 8 months, and 19 days. Kushwaha is currently enrolled in nursery school and holds a rapid rating of 1,572. To earn a FIDE rating, a player must defeat at least one international opponent; Kushwaha defeated three international players in events across Madhya Pradesh and India.

Simranpreet Kaur Brar won the gold medal in the women’s 25-meter pistol event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final 2025 in Doha, Qatar. She equalled the Junior World Record of the Paris Olympics champion by hitting 41 out of 50 shots in the finals. In the men’s 50m rifle 3-positions event, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar won the silver medal with a score of 413.3, just 0.9 points behind the gold medalist. India is second on the medal tally with six medals: two golds, three silvers, and one bronze.

Germany won the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2025, defeating Spain 3-2 in a shoot-out after a 1-1 draw in regulation time. The final was held at Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai, concluding the 13-day tournament that began on November 28 and was held across Chennai and Madurai. Justus Warweg scored for Germany in the 26th minute, while Nicolas Mustaros equalised for Spain in the 33rd minute. India won the bronze medal, defeating Argentina 4-2, marking their first bronze and adding to their previous tally of two golds and one silver in the tournament.

India completed the FEI Asian Equestrian Championships 2025 in Pattaya, Thailand, with a historic five-medal haul. Ashish Limaye won individual gold in eventing. Limaye, along with Shashank Singh Kataria and Shashank Kanmuri, secured team silver in eventing. In dressage, Shruti Vora won three silver medals. The championships were organised by the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) and featured top riders across multiple disciplines. This was the second edition of the continental meet; India did not participate in 2019.

More than 24 countries will participate in the inaugural Commonwealth Kho Kho Championship, scheduled to be held from March 9 to 14 next year. The championship will be hosted in India, although the venue is yet to be finalised. The Kho Kho Federation of India is in discussions with several states to finalise the venue after receiving approval from Commonwealth Sport (CS). The event will feature 16 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams, reflecting equal participation across genders. The tournament will be organised on the lines of the first Kho Kho World Cup, held in January this year in New Delhi, which saw participation from 23 nations.

Australian Paralympic athlete Nicholas Hum passed away on 15 December 2025 at the age of 32. Nicholas Hum was a Paralympic bronze medallist and one of Australia’s most respected long jumpers, with a career spanning over a decade. He made his international debut at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch and competed in three Paralympic Games and five World Para Athletics Championships. He held the Australian long jump T20 record at 7.39 meters and last competed at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA), supported by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and recognized by Deaf International Cricket Council (DICC) & Asian Deaf Cricket Association, launched the 4th Test National Cricket Championship for Deaf on 18th December 2025 in Kolkata. The week-long tournament runs from 18th to 23rd December 2025. Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA), founded in 2020 by Mr. Sumit Jain, governs Deaf Cricket in India, develops talent, and provides opportunities at state, national, and international levels.

Smriti Mandhana became the first Indian woman cricketer to score more than 4,000 runs in T20 Internationals, marking a significant achievement for Indian cricket. She is only the second woman globally to reach this milestone, after New Zealand legend Suzie Bates, who has 4,716 T20I runs. Mandhana reached the milestone in 3,227 balls, which is faster than Suzie Bates, who took 3,675 balls, demonstrating Mandhana’s attacking strike rate and consistency. Mandhana scored 25 runs off 25 balls in the match against Sri Lanka, and though her innings was short, it was sufficient to surpass the 4,000-run mark.

Josh Tongue became the first England bowler this century to take a five-wicket haul in a men’s Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). He claimed figures of 5/45 during Australia’s first innings of 152 all out in the Boxing Day Test. Tongue’s effort ended a 27-year gap since Darren Gough and Dean Headley last achieved a five-for at the MCG in 1998. This was Tongue’s best Test bowling performance, surpassing his previous best of 5/66 against Ireland at Lord’s in 2023. He dismissed three of the top four Australian batters and was on a hat-trick in Australia’s second innings after taking the last two wickets.

President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar on 14-year-old cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his outstanding achievements in domestic and Under-19 cricket. The awards recognise excellence in Bravery, Social Service, Environment, Sports, Art & Culture, and Science & Technology. Vaibhav recently scored 190 off 84 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, becoming the youngest centurion in List A history and breaking AB de Villiers’ fastest 150 record, with 15 sixes, the most by any Indian in 50-over cricket. He scored 108 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy*, becoming the youngest T20 centurion at 14 years 250 days.
