India completed the FEI Asian Equestrian Championships 2025 in Pattaya, Thailand, with a historic five-medal haul. Ashish Limaye won individual gold in eventing. The Games featured around 1,500 athletes from 35 Asian countries and witnessed 25 record-breaking performances, including nine world records and 16 continental records. Uzbekistan topped the medal tally with 197 medals and 99 gold, followed by Iran with 216 medals and 62 gold, while Japan secured 40 gold medals. The fifth edition of the Games was held across 11 sports disciplines such as athletics, swimming, badminton, and wheelchair basketball. The Games also marked the first use of Artificial Intelligence-powered robots in Asian Youth Para Games operations, highlighting innovation and accessibility.

Manu Bhaker and Simranpreet Kaur Brar won gold medals at the 68th National Shooting Championship Competitions at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range, New Delhi. Manu Bhaker won in the Senior Women’s 25m Sports Pistol event. She scored 36 in the final, finishing 4 hits ahead of Divya T.S. (Karnataka), who won silver; Anjali Choudhary won bronze. Simranpreet Kaur Brar won the Junior Women’s 25m Sports Pistol event. She shot 39 in the final to secure the gold medal, continuing her impressive performance streak.

Jammu and Kashmir is hosting its first-ever International Indian Style Wrestling (Dangal) event along with the Rustam-e-Jammu Kashmir Title 2025. The event is taking place at the Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu, and started on December 20, 2025. More than 100 national and international wrestling stars are participating in the competition. Wrestlers will compete for the Rustam-e-Jammu Kashmir Title 2025. This marks a major milestone in promoting traditional Indian wrestling in the region.

East Bengal Football Club (FC) won the inaugural South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Club Championship 2025. They defeated Nepal’s APF (Armed Police Forces) 3-0 in the final at Dasrath Stadium, Kathmandu. With this victory, East Bengal became the first Indian women’s club to win an international tournament.

Alpine SG Pipers, led by Indian Grandmasters R Praggnanandhaa and Anish Giri, won the Global Chess League (GCL) 2025 Season 3 title in Mumbai. They defeated defending champions Triveni Continental Kings in the finals, winning 4–2 in the first match and 4.5–1.5 in the second to secure their maiden GCL title.

President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar on 14-year-old cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his outstanding achievements in domestic and Under-19 cricket. The awards recognise excellence in Bravery, Social Service, Environment, Sports, Art & Culture, and Science & Technology. Vaibhav recently scored 190 off 84 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, becoming the youngest centurion in List A history and breaking AB de Villiers’ fastest 150 record, with 15 sixes, the most by any Indian in 50-over cricket. He scored 108 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy*, becoming the youngest T20 centurion at 14 years 250 days.

Surya Charishma Tamiri won the Women’s Singles title at the 87th Senior National Badminton Championships in Vijayawada, defeating Tanvi Patri 17-21, 21-12, 21-14. Rithvik Sanjeevi S clinched the Men’s Singles title by beating Bharat Raghav in straight games, 21-16, 22-20. In Men’s Doubles, A. Hariharan and Ruban Kumar defeated Mithilesh Krishnan and Prejan 24-22, 21-17 to win the championship. Former champions Shikha Gautam and Ashwini Bhat won the Women’s Doubles title, beating Priya Devi Konjengban and Shruti Mishra 21-14, 21-18. Sathwik Reddy K and Radhika Sharma won the Mixed Doubles title with a 21-9, 21-15 victory over Ashith Surya and Amrutha P.

Indian tennis player Vaidehi Chaudhary won the Women’s Singles title at the W35 Solapur Tennis Tournament in Maharashtra. The 25-year-old, seeded sixth, defeated Japan’s Michika Ozeki in a three-set final, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, after losing the first set. In the semifinals, Vaidehi defeated national champion Vaishnavi Adkar to reach the final. This victory is her fourth career International Tennis Federation (ITF) singles title and her first since June 2024, when she won the W35 Taipei Formosa Cup in Chinese Taipei.

Arjun Erigaisi and Koneru Humpy won bronze medal at the 2025 FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship in Doha. Arjun Erigaisi scored 9.5 points in the open section, finishing just behind world champion Magnus Carlsen. He became the second Indian male, after Viswanathan Anand, to podium at a World Rapid Championship. In the women’s section, Koneru Humpy scored 8.5 points, tied with Zhu Jiner (China) and Aleksandra Goryachkina (Russia). Humpy has previously won gold at the World Rapid Championship in 2019 and 2024.
