On July 27, 2025, England won the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 title by defeating Spain 3-1 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in extra time. Chloe Kelly scored the winning penalty, repeating her 2022 heroics, and ensured England’s second consecutive European title. England coach Sarina Wiegman won her third UEFA Women’s Euro title, previously with Netherlands (2017) and England (2022). UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 was hosted by Switzerland. Boxing Federation of India (BFI) announced that the 4th Sub-Junior Under-15 Boys and Girls National Boxing Championships is scheduled to take place from August 7 to 13 in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The championship will feature more than 700 young boxers, including 400 boys and 300 girls aged 13–14 years, competing in 15 weight categories. In the recent Asian U-15 and U-17 Championships, Indian boxers won 43 medals and secured second place overall.

The 12th edition of The World Games is held from 7 to 17 August 2025 in Chengdu, China. The World Games are organised every four years since 1981 and feature sports not included in the Olympic programme. This edition includes 253 medal events across 34 sports and 60 disciplines. A 17-member Indian team is participating in five sports — Archery, Billiards, Roller Skating, Wushu, and Racquetball. India has been competing since 1981 and has won five medals so far — one gold, one silver, and three bronze. India’s only gold was won by Aditya Mehta in billiards in 2013.

India’s Namrata Batra made history by winning a silver medal in the women’s 52 kg Wushu final at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China. The 24-year-old, a four-time national champion and 2024 Asian Championships silver medallist, lost 2-0 to China’s Mengyue Chen in the final. This was India’s first-ever medal in Wushu at the World Games. It was also India’s second medal at the 2025 edition after Rishabh Yadav’s bronze in men’s compound archery.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiled the logo, mascot, and trophy of the 12th Men’s Asia Cup Hockey Championship in Patna. Bihar is hosting the tournament for the first time at Rajgir International Stadium, from 29th August to 7th September 2025. The mascot “Chand,” inspired by the tiger and hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, symbolises courage, agility, and skill. The tournament begins on 29th August, National Sports Day, marking Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary.

A 24-member Indian archery squad is participating in the World Archery Youth Championships 2025 starting 19 August in Winnipeg, Canada. The tournament runs until 24 August and features 570 youth archers from 63 countries. Competitions include recurve and compound disciplines across Under-18 (U18) and Under-21 (U21) categories. Event formats include individual, team, and mixed team for both men and women. India aims to repeat its 2023 performance in Limerick, Ireland, where it won 11 medals, including six golds.

Ahmedabad will host three major international sports events in 2025. Events include the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship from August 24 to 30, the Asian Aquatics Championship in September–October, and the AFC Under-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers from November 22 to 30. Elite athletes from more than 29 countries will participate. Competitions will take place at Naranpura Sports Complex and The Arena by TransStadia. These events highlight Gujarat’s growing profile as a global sports hub. The development is supported by modern infrastructure and the Sports Policy 2022–27. Ahmedabad is also set to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

Cheteshwar Pujara, India’s Test specialist, announced retirement from all forms of cricket on August 24, 2025. The 37-year-old last played a Test over two years ago, with his final First Class match being Saurashtra’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal loss in February 2025. He played 103 Test matches for India, scoring 7195 runs at an average of 43.60, with 19 hundreds and 35 fifties. Pujara was the hero of India’s 2018–19 historic Test series win in Australia, scoring 521 runs and facing 1258 balls. He finished with 21301 First Class runs, 18 double hundreds, and three triple hundreds.
