India’s Chikitha Taniparthi became the first Indian female compound archer to win the Individual Junior World title. She won the Under-21 (U21) women’s gold medal at the World Youth Archery Championships in Canada. Chikitha defeated Korea’s Yerin Park 142-136 in the final match. In the Under-18 (U18) category, Prithika Pradeep won silver after losing 140-143 to Savannah O’Donnohue of the USA.

New Delhi will host the Badminton World Championships in August 2026. Announcement made by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Championships in Paris. The championships return to India after 17 years and to Asia after four years. The event was last held in India in Hyderabad, 2009. India has a strong medal history at the Championships. PV Sindhu is India’s most successful player with five medals: one gold, two silver, and two bronze. Other Indian medalists include Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, H S Prannoy, Prakash Padukone, Jwala Gutta, and Ashwini Ponappa.

The World Boxing Championships 2025 began on 4 September 2025 in Liverpool, United Kingdom. India has sent a 20-member contingent for the Championships. Women’s team core includes two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen, Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain, and two-time Asian champion Pooja Rani. Men’s team led by Sumit Kundu, returning after injury, along with 2021 World Youth champion Sachin Siwach and Harsh Choudhary. Promising male debutants include Jadumani Singh Mandengbam, Hitesh Gulia, and Abhinash Jamwal. French women’s team barred from participation for missing deadline to submit gender test results. India aims for strong performance with experienced and young boxers in the Championships.

India won the Asia Cup Hockey 2025 beating South Korea 4-1 in the final. This is India’s fourth Asia Cup title and first in eight years. The win also secured India’s spot in the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup in Netherlands and Belgium. Malaysia beat China 4-1 for third place. The Asia Cup Hockey 2025 was held from August 29 to September 7 in Rajgir, Bihar.

India will host the 28th International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) – Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU) Asian Table Tennis Team Championships 2025 in Bhubaneswar from 11–15 October. The event will feature men’s and women’s team competitions. It will serve as a qualifier for the 2026 ITTF World Team Championships, with top 13 teams from each category earning spots. This is the first-ever Asian-level table tennis event in Odisha. Odisha earlier hosted the 2019 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships and is known as India’s sports capital.

Recently, the Prime Minister congratulated the Indian Women’s Hockey Team for winning the Silver Medal at the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025. The final was played in Hangzhou, China, where China defeated India 4-1 to lift the trophy. With this victory, China qualified directly for the 2026 Hockey World Cup to be held in Belgium and the Netherlands. This was China’s third Asia Cup title after 1989 (Hong Kong) and 2009 (Bangkok). India secured silver, while Japan won bronze.

Vaishali Rameshbabu won the FIDE Grand Swiss Chess tournament for the second time in a row in Uzbekistan. She secured victory with a final-round draw against former Women’s World Champion Tan Zhongyi. The 24-year-old Indian Grandmaster finished with 8 points from 11 rounds. With this win, she gained direct entry into the 2026 Candidates Tournament. Vaishali became the third Indian woman to qualify for the 2026 Candidates, after Koneru Humpy and Divya Deshmukh. In the previous edition, India had swept both men’s and women’s titles, with Vidit Gujrathi winning the men’s event.

On 28 September 2025, India won the Asia Cricket Cup 2025 in the Men’s T20 format against Pakistan. This is India’s second Asia Cup T20 title after 2016. Overall, India has now won the Asia Cup 9 times in the 17th edition of the tournament. Tilak Varma played a match-winning unbeaten 69 runs, rebuilding the innings under intense pressure.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) and United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) launched the Promise to Children digital campaign during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The campaign urges cricket fans, players, and audiences to commit to equal opportunities for all children, especially the most vulnerable. It focuses on children’s rights, including quality education, healthcare, nutrition, safe water, sanitation, and protection from violence. It aims to engage the cricket community, from coaches and players to fans, to improve children’s lives. The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 is jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka and India will co-host the first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup – Cricket for the Blind from 11 to 23 November 2025. The tournament will open in New Delhi with inauguration and five matches, followed by four matches in Bengaluru. Colombo, Sri Lanka, will host the concluding leg with 15 matches, including semi-finals, final, and closing ceremony on 23rd November.
