From September 27 to October 5, 2025, New Delhi is hosting the World Para Athletics Championships for the first time. The venue is Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, with over 1,000 athletes from 100+ nations. This marks India’s debut as host and one of the largest para-sport events in the country. The Championships are the biggest para-athletics competition after the Paralympic Games. Events include sprints, relays, long-distance races, jumps, throws, and other track and field disciplines. India’s medal tally has improved from 2 silvers at Doha 2015 to 17 medals at Kobe 2024.

Manipur won the 30th Senior Women’s National Football Championship – Rajmata Jijabai Trophy 2025 by defeating West Bengal 1–0 in the final. The match was held at Ramakrishna Mission (RKM) Ashrama Ground, Narainpur, Chhattisgarh. With this victory, Manipur successfully defended its title and lifted the trophy for a record 23rd time. The winning goal was scored by Lynda Kom Serto in the 93rd minute, sealing a dramatic finish. The fifth edition of Khelo India University Games (KIUG 2025) will be held from November 24 to December 5, 2025 in seven cities of Rajasthan: Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Kota, and Bharatpur. More than 5,000 athletes are expected to participate in 23 medal sports and one demonstration sport (Kho-Kho). New sports introduced this year include beach volleyball, canoeing & kayaking, and cycling. KIUG provides university athletes a platform for talent development and national recognition, supporting India’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. KIUG is part of the Khelo India Scheme, the flagship programme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS).

Recently, Cape Verde made history by becoming the second-smallest country, after Iceland in 2018, to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. In contrast, India failed to qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup after losing to world-ranked 158th Singapore in Goa. The final competition was held in Kolkata Derby at Salt Lake Stadium on October 18, 2025. The Indian Football Association (IFA) was founded in Calcutta in 1893, and the IFA Shield tournament began that same year. The tournament is widely regarded as the fourth-oldest club football competition after the FA Cup (England), Scottish Cup, and Durand Cup. The 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships 2025 was held in Cairo, Egypt from 11–18 October 2025, marking the first-ever World Championships in Africa. China won its sixth overall and fifth consecutive title as the top nation in Para Powerlifting. India topped the medal tally with 20 gold and 58 total medals, followed by Sri Lanka with 16 gold and 40 total medals. Nepal stood third, while Bangladesh and Maldives followed; Bhutan finished without a medal.
