Shaurya Bhattacharya won the South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) Rs. 1 crore Chhattisgarh Open golf championship at Fairway Golf and Lake Resort, Naya Raipur. He secured victory with a final round of six-under 63, finishing with a 27-under 249. The 22-year-old from Chandigarh had a five-shot lead overnight with earlier scores of 64, 61, and 61. This is his second professional title, following his maiden win in his rookie season last year.

Vidarbha won their third Ranji Trophy title 2034-2025 by securing a first-innings lead against Kerala in the final. The final was held at Vidarbha Cricket Stadium, Nagpur, from 26 February to 2 March 2025. The Ranji Trophy, India’s top domestic first-class cricket championship, was established by BCCI in honor of K.S. Ranjit Singhji. Vidarbha previously won in 2017-18 and 2018-19. Kerala reached their first-ever Ranji Trophy final.

The Indian women’s Kabaddi team won their fifth Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship title. They defeated Iran 32-25 in the final held in Tehran on 8th March 2025. The 6th Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship 2025 took place in Tehran from 6th to 8th March 2025. Iran hosted the tournament for the third time, previously in 2007 and 2017.

Siddhant Banthia of India and Alexander Donski of Bulgaria won the doubles title at the 2025 Rwandan Challenger tennis tournament. This was Siddhant Banthia’s first ATP Challenger title. Valentin Foyer of France won the singles title. The Rwandan Challenger was an ATP 100 tournament with a $160,000 prize pool, held in Kigali from 3-9 March 2025. Singles and doubles winners earned 100 ATP points each. The singles winner received $22,730, while the doubles winners shared $7,960. The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) organizes tournaments for professional men’s tennis players, with the ATP Tour being the highest level.

Nitesh won bronze in the Greco-Roman 97kg category at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2025 in Amman, Jordan. This was India’s second medal at the event. He defeated Kazakhstan’s Ilyas Guchigov 9-0 via technical superiority (VSU) in his opening match. In the semi-finals, he lost 9-0 to Olympic champion Mohammad Hadi Saravi of Iran. In the bronze medal match, he beat Amanberdi Agamammedov of Turkmenistan 9-0 (VSU). Sunil Kumar had earlier won bronze in the 87kg category.

India’s Nihal Sarin won the 2025 Tashkent Open Agzamov Memorial Chess title in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The 20-year-old Indian Grandmaster remained unbeaten, scoring 8 out of 10 points. He outperformed a strong field, including eight players rated above 2600 Elo. With this victory, Nihal gained 7.1 Elo rating points. His live rating now stands at 2694, bringing him close to the prestigious 2700 Elo mark.

Indian women’s hockey stalwart Vandana Katariya has announced her retirement from international hockey after a career spanning over 15 years. She played 320 international matches and scored 158 goals, making her the most-capped player in Indian women’s hockey history. Vandana made her senior team debut in 2009. She became the first and only Indian woman to score a hat-trick at the Olympics. She received the Arjuna Award in 2021 and the Padma Shri in 2022 for her contributions to Indian hockey. She received the Hockey India Dhanraj Pillay Award for Forward of the Year in 2021 and 2022.

Indian athletes won 11 medals at the 6th Asian Under-18 (U18) Athletics Championship 2025 held in Saudi Arabia from April 15 to 18. The event was organised by the Asian Athletics Association at Prince Naif Bin Abdulaziz Sports City. Athletes under 18 years from 31 Asian countries took part in the championship. India won one gold, five silver, and five bronze medals in total. Himanshu won the gold medal in the boys’ javelin throw event. In the previous 5th edition held in 2023 at Tashkent, Uzbekistan, India had won 24 medals.

Recently, Indian shooters ended their campaign at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Lima 2025 with seven medals. These included two gold, four silver, and one bronze, placing India third behind China and the United States of America (USA) in the medal tally. The ISSF World Cup for Rifle and Shotgun was held in Lima, the capital city of Peru, from April 13 to 22, 2025. This was the second ISSF World Cup of 2025, following the first event in Buenos Aires, Argentina, held from April 1 to 10, 2025.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the seventh edition of the Khelo India Youth Games on May 4, 2025, through videoconferencing. The Khelo India Youth Games are being held in Bihar for the first time, from May 4 to 15, across five districts including Patna, Nalanda, Gaya, Bhagalpur, and Begusarai. More than 8,500 athletes and 1,500 technical staff are participating in 28 sports. Bihar has seen new institutions like the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence and Bihar Sports University set up.
