Services won the 79th National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy. The final was played at Dhakuakhana Stadium in Assam. Services defeated Kerala by 1–0 in a closely fought match. The winning goal was scored in the 109th minute of extra time. Striker Abhishek Pawar scored from a cross delivered by Shubham Rana. This victory marked Services’ eighth Santosh Trophy title. Services had also defeated Kerala in the 2023–24 season final.

The Indian Army will host the first-ever International Military Adventure Challenge Cup (IMACC) 2026 from 18–23 February in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas. The event will feature military teams from India and seven friendly foreign countries: Bhutan, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Saudi Arabia. Indian participants include teams from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). IMACC 2026 will involve a week-long series of adventure and endurance competitions testing physical fitness, mental resilience, teamwork, leadership, and decision-making under pressure.

Magnus Carlsen won the 2026 FIDE Freestyle Chess World Championship. He defeated Fabiano Caruana in the final held in Weissenhaus. The championship was held from 13 to 15 February 2026. Carlsen won the match with a final score of 2.5–1.5. A crucial comeback victory in game three helped him secure the title. The tournament was the first official Freestyle (Fischer Random) World Championship recognised by FIDE.

6th National Rafting Championship titled The Ultimate River Battle begins at Shibnote in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. Event is organised by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department with Doda District Administration. It is being held on the Chenab River known for challenging rapids and scenic landscape. Championship aims to showcase top rafting talent and promote adventure and eco tourism. It will test endurance, teamwork and river navigation skills over four days. The event is expected to boost local economy and position Jammu and Kashmir as a major adventure tourism hub.

The Football for Schools (F4S) initiative was highlighted at PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dakshin Dinajpur, West Bengal. The Football for Schools programme is an initiative of Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It aims to support education, development and empowerment of children through football. It promotes life skills and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In India, it is implemented by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, with support from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Sports Authority of India (SAI).

Shailesh Kumar won gold medal in men’s high jump T63 at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix, New Delhi. He achieved a best jump of 1.84 m, below his personal best of 1.91 m, but was satisfied as it was the season opener. Shailesh hails from Bihar and targets the Asian Para Games, focusing his training program on that event. At the 2025 World Championships, Shailesh attempted 1.94 m thrice, exceeding the championship record but missing the world record.

The World Athletics Indoor Championships 2026 ended with record-breaking performances and highest quality in history. United States topped the medal table with 5 gold, 7 silver, 6 bronze (total tally 324). Event recorded highest performance score of 49,516, surpassing 2022 record. Future editions will be held in India (2028) and Kazakhstan (2030).

The 7th National Sub-Junior (Under-17) Boxing Championship has started in Nagpur from 4 April. The event was inaugurated by Nitin Gadkari. The week-long tournament has attracted around 600 young boxers from across India, reflecting its growing importance in the national sports calendar. It also serves as a selection platform, where top performers will be chosen for the Indian Under-17 squad. Selected players will represent India at the Asian Boxing Championship to be held in Tashkent later this year.

South African player Rassie van der Dussen has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 35, ending a successful career as a dependable white-ball batter for South Africa national cricket team. He debuted late at 29 in a T20I against Zimbabwe and went on to play 18 Tests, 71 ODIs, and 57 T20Is. His strongest format was ODIs, where he scored 2657 runs at an average above 50, making him second only to AB de Villiers among South Africans. He was a key player during the 2019 Cricket World Cup and became a regular middle-order batter.
