Recently, Manipur won the Junior Boys’ National Football Championship for the Dr. B.C. Roy Trophy (Tier 1) after 25 years. They defeated defending champions West Bengal 3-0 in the final on July 30, 2025, at Guru Nanak Dev University Sports Complex. The Junior Boys’ National Football Championship for the Dr. B.C. Roy Trophy 2025–26 was held in Amritsar, Punjab. This tournament is also known as the B.C. Roy Trophy. It is an Indian football competition for under-15 boys representing different states. It aims to promote young football talent across India at the grassroots level.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiled the mascot of Asia Rugby Under-20 (Sevens) Championship on 3rd August 2025. The Championship will be held for the first time in Bihar at Rajgir Sports Complex on 9th and 10th August. It is a seven-member team event featuring both Men’s and Women’s teams from Asia. Top 8 Asian countries including India, Hong Kong, China, UAE, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Nepal will participate. The mascot named Ashoka, a rabbit, symbolizes agility which is vital in rugby.

Malta will host the 8th Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) in late 2027. Around 1,150 athletes aged 14-18 from 74 nations and territories will take part. The event will include eight sports: athletics, para athletics, netball, squash, swimming, para swimming, triathlon, and weightlifting. Sailing and water polo will debut in Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) 2027. Para swimming will feature for the first time, making it the largest Para sport program in Commonwealth Youth Games history. Malta is located in the Mediterranean Sea between Sicily and North Africa.

Jharkhand Women’s Hockey Team won the 15th Junior National Women’s Hockey Championship for the second consecutive year by defeating Hockey Haryana 2-1 in the finals. The championship was held in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, from August 1-12, 2025. Sweety Dungdung and Shanti Kimari scored for Jharkhand in the 10th and 12th minutes. Sweety Dungdung was the highest goal scorer with 5 goals in the tournament. Jharkhand has won the Junior National title in 2018, 2019, 2024, and 2025. In 2025, Jharkhand won National Championships in Senior, Junior, and Sub-junior categories.

Haryana’s young boxers won overall team titles at the Sub Junior, Under-15 Boys and Girls National Championships in Greater Noida. Haryana outperformed Services and other states with skill, power, and consistency. In the Boys category, Haryana won 4 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze medals, claiming the team crown. Key boys’ winners included Ravi Sihag and Sanchit Jayani with clean-sweep victories. In the Girls category, Haryana also topped, with champions like Garima, Princi, Sunaina, Jivika, and Radhika Sharma. Maharashtra secured third place with standout performances from Riya Shinde and Ovi Adwant. The event highlights Haryana’s rising strength in junior boxing talent.

More than 500 humanoid robots from 16 countries, including Japan, took part in the World Humanoid Robot Games 2025 in Beijing, China. The four-day event featured competitions in sports, tasks, and real-world scenarios. Robots competed in 26 events such as track and field, soccer, dancing, and kickboxing. A robot completed the 100-meter sprint in 21.5 seconds, showing remarkable speed. Robots also showed agility in kickboxing by regaining balance after hits. Some robots collapsed in soccer and collided during the 400-meter relay. The event highlighted both rapid progress and challenges in humanoid robotics.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiled the logo, mascot, and trophy of the 12th Men’s Asia Cup Hockey Championship in Patna. Bihar is hosting the tournament for the first time at Rajgir International Stadium, from 29th August to 7th September 2025. The mascot “Chand,” inspired by the tiger and hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, symbolises courage, agility, and skill. The tournament begins on 29th August, National Sports Day, marking Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary.

Ahmedabad will host three major international sports events in 2025. Events include the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship from August 24 to 30, the Asian Aquatics Championship in September–October, and the AFC Under-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers from November 22 to 30. Elite athletes from more than 29 countries will participate. Competitions will take place at Naranpura Sports Complex and The Arena by TransStadia. These events highlight Gujarat’s growing profile as a global sports hub. The development is supported by modern infrastructure and the Sports Policy 2022–27. Ahmedabad is also set to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

Madhya Pradesh (MP) topped the medal tally at the first edition of Khelo India Water Sports held at Dal Lake, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. MP won 18 medals, including 10 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze, and claimed the overall championship trophy. Odisha and Kerala secured second (10 medals) and third (7 medals) positions, while Chhattisgarh won a silver medal. MP dominated kayaking and canoeing, winning all four golds on the penultimate day and six more on the final day.

Star Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won a Gold medal at the 2025 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Ahmedabad. She marked a triumphant return to competitive action after previous international events. Chanu lifted a total of 193 kilograms to set new Commonwealth Championship records in snatch, clean and jerk, and total. She lifted 84 kilograms in snatch and 109 kilograms in clean and jerk, both setting new records. She finished first on the women’s 48-kilogram podium. The victory secured her direct qualification for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
