Notes:
Indian Navy conducted ‘Prasthan’, structured exercise to evaluate organisational effectiveness in protecting offshore assets off Mumbai on an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) platform.
‘Prasthan’ is conducted twice a year under the aegis of Western Naval Command. The Indian Navy is the lead agency and is entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the oil production platforms off the coasts of India.

 

Notes:
The UGC has created a new position called ‘Professor of Practice’ (PoP) to enable Higher Educational Institutions to hire professional experts. It has earlier published guidelines for engaging them.
UGC has recently directed the universities to make necessary changes in their statutes to enable the engagement of Professors of Practice. The number of PoPs in a higher education institute (HEI), at any point in time, should not exceed 10 per cent of the sanctioned posts.

Madhya Pradesh government has implemented the Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas (PESA) Act in the state.
It aims to preserve the tribal population from exploitation with an active involvement of the Gram Sabhas. The Act also gives special powers to the Gram Sabhas in Scheduled Areas for the management of natural resources.

American space agency NASA has launched its most powerful rocket ‘Artemis’ to the Moon.
The 100m-tall Artemis vehicle has an objective to send an astronaut capsule in the direction of the Moon. The spacecraft, comprises the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion capsule.

India will assume G20 Presidency for one year, beginning December 1, 2022, taking over from Indonesia.
‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ has been selected as India’s theme of G-20 Presidency. The Indian Prime Minister announced that principle of ‘Data for development’ will be an integral part of overall theme of our Presidency.

As per the recent Home Ministry data, over 15 lakh foreigners, had visited India last year when the country was on an extended period of Covid restrictions and visa regulations.
The maximum number of foreigners who visited India during this period were from the United States (4.29 lakh), followed by Bangladesh (2.4 lakh). Ten countries accounted for 74.39 per cent of the total arrival of foreigners during 2021.

The International Financial Services Centres Authority, IFSCA and Reserve Bank of India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for collaboration in the field of regulation and supervision of regulated entities.
The MoU facilitates technical cooperation and exchange of information. The agreement aims to strengthen the safety, stability and strength of financial ecosystems. IFSCA is a unified regulator responsible for development and regulation of financial products, financial services and financial institutions in IFSCs.

Notes:
The Japanese Self-Defence Forces and the US Military launched a joint military exercise, titled ‘Keen Sword’ in Japan.
This exercise involves around 26,000 personnel from the Japan’s maritime and air self-defence forces. As many as 10,000 US soldiers from the ‘Space Force’ are also involved in this exercise. The multilateral exercise ‘Malabar 2022’, between the navies of India, Japan, the US and Australia also commenced.

In the Asian Airgun Championship 2022 being held in Daegu, South Korea, India’s Shiva Narwal won gold in the Men’s 10-meter air pistol.
In the women’s 10m air pistol youth competition, Kanishka Dagar, Yashsavi Joshi, and Harnavdeep Kaur clinhed gold. Arjun Babuta and Mehuli Ghosh win gold in 10m air rifle mixed team.

World Antimicrobial Awareness Week is observed every year from November 18 to 24. This week aims at spreading awareness about antibiotic or antimicrobial resistance.
According to World Health Organization (WHO), Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines. This year the theme is “Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance Together”.
