NASA’s Orion spacecraft has successfully performed its first Moon flyby as part of the uncrewed Artemis I mission
It has passed within 130 kilometres of the lunar surface. Orion will travel about 57,287 miles beyond the Moon at its farthest point from the Moon, passing the record set by Apollo 13. Orion will enter a distant retrograde orbit beyond the Moon.

Malaysia’s veteran opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has recently sworn in as the country’s new Prime Minister.
The new PM was sworn in by the king after days of post-election deadlock following inconclusive elections. Anwar says he will tackle Malaysia’s rising cost of living and combat corruption. He also seeks to implement reforms including a fixed term parliament act and a ten-year limit on the serving term of prime ministers.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has voted unanimously to start discussions on international tax standards.
This decision has developing countries, including India more voice in framing global tax rules. Around USD 500-600 billion is lost every year in corporate tax revenue and a low-income countries suffer more with a higher proportion of GDP.

Union Power Ministry has launched a scheme for the procurement of aggregate electricity of 4,500 MW for five years
The scheme has been launched under SHAKTI (Scheme for Harnessing and Allocating Koyala Transparently in India) policy. PFC Consulting Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PFC Ltd, has been designated as the nodal agency by the Ministry of Power.

Hawaii’s Mauna Loa, the world’s largest active volcano, is erupting for the first time in nearly 40 years.
After the volcano’s Moku’āweoweo summit caldera erupted, dozens of earthquakes hit the region. The volcano erupted 33 times since its first eruption in 1843. Its last eruption was in 1984 and after that, Mauna Loa entered its longest dormant period in history.

Ministry of External Affairs is organising the ‘International Lusophone Festival’ in partnership with the Indian Council of Cultural Relations and the Goa government.
Lusophones are people that speak Portuguese as a native or as a common second language.  As part of the festival, workshops on Lusophone music, exhibitions of Goan architecture, Goan handicrafts and Goan furniture, Food and Spirits Festival are being organised.

YouTube removed some 1.7 million videos originating in India in July-September this year for violating guidelines. This is the highest number of videos in the world, as per the company’s quarterly transparency report.
It had removed 1.32 million videos in India in the previous quarter, April to June. Around 5.6 million videos were removed globally, for violations related to child safety, violence, nudity, bullying, and harmful content.

Stephanie Frappart is set to become the first woman to referee a men’s World Cup match after FIFA announced that she will take charge of Group E match between Germany and Costa Rica.
The 38-year-old is one of three women referees among the 36 selected for the tournament in Qatar, alongside Rwandan official Salima Mukansanga and Japan’s Yoshimi Yamashita.
