Tamil Nadu has launched the ‘Tamil Nadu Elephant Death Audit Framework’ to document reasons for elephant deaths for better accountability.
According to media reports, out of the 131 elephant deaths recorded in Tamil Nadu’s forest divisions between January 2021 and March 2022, only 13 were human-induced. The framework will improve transparency and facilitate more credible comparisons of cause of mortality.

India’s Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced a National Suicide Prevention Strategy.
The country’s first of its kind policy has time-bound action plans and multi-sectoral collaborations to achieve reduction in suicide mortality by 10% by 2030. It seeks to establish effective surveillance mechanisms for suicide within the next three years, establish psychiatric outpatient departments in all districts within the next five years, and to integrate a mental well-being curriculum in all educational institutions within the next eight years.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) cut its gross domestic growth forecast for India for FY23 to 6.6 per cent from 6.9 per cent.
The reasons are higher medium-term global uncertainty and slowing domestic economic activity. India is set to be the second-fastest growing economy in the G-20 in FY23, despite decelerating global demand and the tightening of monetary policy.

The 3rd Global High-Level Conference on Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR) was organised in Muscat, Oman.
Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar represented India. 22 participants from more than 15 countries attended the conference. The event also included the launch of Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform on AMR by the Quadripartite Organizations.

‘National Milk Day’ is observed to commemorate 101st birth anniversary of the ‘Father of the White Revolution in India’, Dr. Verghese Kurien also known as the Milkman of India.
The prestigious National Gopal Ratna Awards 2022 will also be conferred on the day. In the national event in the state of Karnataka, a book on the life of Varghese Kurian and a booklet on Milk Adulteration is to be released.

IIT Guwahati Director Professor TG Sitharam has been appointed as the new chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
He will take the charge from UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar and hold the position for a period of three years. Professor TG Sitharam is also a member of the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), and a senior professor in the civil engineering department of IISc Bangalore.

Every year, November 25 is seen as International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
The theme for this year is ‘UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls.’ It also honours the Mirabal sisters who were brutally murdered in the year 1960 by the ruler of the Dominican Republic, Rafael Trujillo.

On its Founder’s day, Canara Bank launched an Electronic Bank Guarantee (e-BG) in partnership with National E-Governance Services Limited (NeSL).
Canara Bank offers an API based digital workflow of Bank guarantees which will eliminate physical issuance, stamping, verification and paper-based record maintenance of Bank Guarantees. This will improve sustainability and transparency.

Notes:
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched successfully PSLV-C54 carrying Oceansat-3 also known as Earth Observation Satellite-6, and 8 nano-satellites.
The satellite was launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The eight nanosatellites include ISRO Nano Satellite-2 for Bhutan (INS-2B), Anand, Astrocast (four satellites), and two Thybolt satellites.

Prasar Bharati, India’s Public Service Broadcaster, is hosting the 59th Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) General Assembly 2022.
The theme of this year’s assembly is ‘Serving the People: Media’s Role in Times of Crisis’. ABU is a nonprofit, professional association of the broadcasting organizations of Asia and pacific region.
