The Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar inaugurated a Digital India startup hub at the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) centre at Davanagere, Karnataka.
This is the 63rd STPI centre in the country and the fifth in the Karnataka. The Centre has high-speed data communication facilities and other amenities and services required for export of software and services.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar addressed the UNESCO-INDIA-AFRICA (UIA) Hackathon at Greater Noida.
The Hackathon involving young entrepreneurs from India and 22 African countries was organized by the Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Education, the AICTE and UNESCO.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi is the only Indian educational institution among top 50 in the Global University Employability Rankings by Times Higher Education (THE).
The Global Employability University Ranking and Survey (GEURS) lists the world’s top 250 universities for producing employable graduates. IISc Bengaluru is at the second spot (58) in India followed by IIT-Bombay at 72.

Notes:
India recently won the International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) Vice Presidency and Strategic Management Board (SMB) Chair for the 2023-25 term. IEC is headquartered at Geneva.
Vimal Mahendru will be the IEC Vice President representing India. IEC is an international standard-setting body that publishes international Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.

Karnataka is set to host ‘Indian Travel Exhibition’ India’s leading Travel and Tourism Expo in February 2023.
‘Indian Travel Exhibition’ will showcase a variety of destinations from different sectors such as pilgrimages, adventures, culture & heritage, beaches, hills among others. The event will have over 250 participants from over 7 countries and over 20 Indian states.

Paralympic medallist Avani Lekhara received the ‘Para Sports Person of Year’ award at the Turf 2022 and India Sports Awards of FICCI.
Former Ranji cricketer Sarkar Talwar was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement of the Year award. Shrey Kadyan was recognized as the Special Sportsperson of the Year. Odisha was recognized as the best state for promoting sports. The All India Chess Federation won the National Sports Federation of the Year Award.

India-Malaysia joint military Exercise Harimau Shakti-2022 has recently started at Pulai Klang in Malaysia.
Combat troops of the Garhwal Rifles Regiment of the Indian Army and the Royal Malay Regiment of the Malaysian Army are participating in the exercise. HARIMAU SHAKTI is an annual training event between Indian and Malaysian armies which has been organised since 2012.

Former athlete P T Usha has been elected to become the president of Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
P T Usha won 23 medals, including 14 gold, in the Asian Championships from 1983 to 1998. She also finished fourth in the 400-metre hurdles final at the 1984 Olympics. She is also known as the ‘Payyoli Express’.

Notes:
The Central government received a huge dividend tranche of Rs 5,001 crore from the Maharatna company ONGC.
This was announced by Secretary in the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) Tuhin Kanta Pandey. The government had earlier received about Rs 690 crore from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) as dividend tranche.

Stephanie Frappart is set to become the first woman to referee a men’s World Cup match after FIFA announced that she will take charge of Group E match between Germany and Costa Rica.
The 38-year-old is one of three women referees among the 36 selected for the tournament in Qatar, alongside Rwandan official Salima Mukansanga and Japan’s Yoshimi Yamashita.
