Uttar Pradesh’s Ranipur Tiger Reserve has become the 53rd tiger reserve of India. The tiger reserve is spread across over 529.36 sq km.
It is also the fourth tiger reserve in Uttar Pradesh and the three other tiger reserves being Dudhwa, Pilibhit and Amangarh. Ranipur tiger reserve is covered by northern tropical dry deciduous forests and is home to mammals like megafauna tiger, leopard, bear, spotted deer, sambhar, chinkara among others.

The International Open Access Week is celebrated around the world from 24 to 30 October. It is an annual initiative to promote open access (OA) in the academic and research world.
This year the motto is Open for Climate Justice and aims to raise awareness of how open access can be a means for climate justice. In India, CSIR-NIScPR is one of the largest Open Access publishers of India which publishes 15 Diamond Open Access scholarly journals. In 2022, the International Open Access Week, entered its fifteenth year of celebration.

The Indian Government has decided to grant Indian citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians coming from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan and currently living in two districts of Gujarat under the Citizenship Act, 1955.
The move to grant citizenship comes under the Citizenship Act, 1955 and not the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 (CAA).

Notes:
‘Operation Vigilant Storm’ is a Defence exercise conducted between USA and Republic of Korea (South Korea).
The four-day training exercise involves hundreds of aircraft and designed to enhance combat readiness and interoperability. The exercise has sparked opposition from North Korea’s Foreign Ministry.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has invited stakeholder comments on the proposed new common ITR form.
At present, taxpayers are required to furnish their Income-tax Returns in various forms including ITR-1 to ITR-7 depending upon the type of person and nature of income.  The draft proposes to introduce a common ITR by merging all the existing returns of income except ITR-7.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar represented India in the Meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government.
Dr. Jaishankar also expressed interest in expanding India-SCO trade on the basis of fair market access. A Joint Communique of SCO Heads of Government and other Decisions were adopted at the conclusion of the Meeting.

A coalition led by the right-wing former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has won a majority of seats in the Israeli parliament.
Knesset is the name of the unicameral legislature of Israel. Netanyahu was the country’s prime minister for 12 years between 2009 and 2021.  Netanyahu, who is on trial for corruption, will be invited by Israeli President Isaac Herzog to form a government.

The Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti held Technical Session on ‘Rural WASH Partnerships – the way forward’ on the second day of the 7th India Water Week.
‘WASH’ stands for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). Union Jal Shakti Minister also launched the toolkit for Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2023 and the web portal for the ‘Twinpit to Retrofit Abhiyan’

In 2021, the Union government had declared 15th November as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas dedicated to the memory of brave tribal freedom fighters.
November 15 is the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, an iconic freedom fighter, social reformer and revered tribal leader of the country. Education Ministry will celebrate Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas in schools and higher educational institutions across the country.

Notes:
The World Meteorological Organization released the provisional State of the Global Climate in 2022 report.
As per the report, the past eight years are on track to be the eight warmest on record, fuelled by rising greenhouse gas concentrations and accumulated heat. It also cited that extreme heat-waves, drought and devastating flooding have affected millions and cost billions this year.
