The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched the pilot for a central-bank-backed digital rupee for the wholesale segment.
RBI announced this in a statement on ‘Operationalisation of Central Bank Digital Currency-Wholesale (e ₹-W) Pilot’. The nine banks selected for the pilot are State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Yes Bank, IDFC First Bank and HSBC.

World Cities Day is celebrated on October 31 every year to highlight the need for international cooperation to promote global urbanisation.
A different city hosts the event each year and China’s Shanghai is hosting the event this year. ‘Better City, Better Life’ has been the general theme of World Cities Day since its inception. The sub-theme this year is ‘Act Local to Go Global.’

Zojila Day was commemorated at Zojila War Memorial to celebrate the gallant action by Indian troops in ‘Operation Bison’ in 1948.
The commemoration of the day was marked by Commander Drass Brigade of the Leh-based Fire and Fury Corps. The Indian Army used tanks for the first time at such heights, and liberated the Zojila pass from Pakistani Intruders.

Ministry of Education has recently released the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE) report.
As per the report, Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) has improved at primary, upper primary, and higher secondary levels of school education in 2021-22 as compared to 2020-21. In 2021-22, the total number of students enrolled in school education from primary to higher secondary increased by 19.36 lakh enrolments from the previous year.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the state government’s flagship ‘Ladli Laxmi 2.0’ financial assistance scheme.
The scheme aims to encourage girls to pursue higher education and make them independent. The state had launched the ‘Ladli Laxmi’ scheme in 2007, to provide monetary benefits to the eligible girl children to ensure they get good education.

‘Permacrisis’, a term that describes ‘an extended period of instability and insecurity’, has been named Word of the Year 2022 by Collins dictionary
The word relates to the challenges posed by climate change, the war in Europe, a cost-of-living crisis and political chaos. It was first used in academic contexts in the 1970s. In 2020, Collins picked “lockdown” as its word of the year and last year, it opted for “NFT- Non-fungible token”.

Switzerland has launched the world’s longest passenger train with 100 coaches, 4,550 seats, measuring 1910 metres.
Rhaetian Railway, a Swiss transport company, has set a world record for the longest passenger train, to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Switzerland’s first railway. The record-breaking train was formed of 25 new ‘Capricorn’ electric trains, which passed through the landscape in the Swiss Alps.

The 15th edition of the Agro Tech India organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is scheduled to be held in Chandigarh from November 4 to 7.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) are partners for CII Agro Tech India -Agri and Food Technology Fair’. This year’s theme is ‘Digital Transformation for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security’.

‘National Cancer Awareness Day’ is observed on November 7 every year in India, to highlight the risks of cancer.
National Cancer Awareness Day was announced in September 2014. It also coincided with the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Marie Curie, whose contributions led to the development of radiotherapy for cancer treatment.

Notes:
The Indian Army has started the process to procure 120 loitering munitions and 10 aerial targeting systems to improve its military might along the border with China.
It has also planned to procure an array of additional systems including 100 K9 Vajra howitzers and UAVs to further augment combat abilities.
