Notes:
The World Health Organisation (WHO) released the Global TB Report 2022, which notes the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the diagnosis, treatment and burden of disease for TB.
India’s TB incidence for the year 2021 is 210 per 100,000 population, compared to the baseline year of 2015. There has been an 18% decline which is 7 percentage points better than the global average of 11%. India is placed at 36th position in terms of TB incidence rates.

Indian Agriculture Research Institute has successfully tested two new dwarf varieties: Pusa Narendra Kalanamak 1638 and Pusa Narendra Kalanamak 1652, in Uttar Pradesh.
Kalanamak, a traditional variety of paddy with a black husk and a strong fragrance. It is considered a gift from Lord Buddha to the people of the Sravasti. It is grown in 11 districts of the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh and in Nepal. The crop was affected by ‘lodging’ condition, while the new dwarf variety seeks to give double the yield.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal had a virtual meeting with his Australian counterpart.
The Meeting was held to discuss the status of ratification of IndAus ECTA (India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement), which was signed in April 2022. The pact’s early implementation was also deliberated upon.

The Chhattisgarh government launched the ‘Shri Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store Scheme’ in October 2021.
It provides medicines at affordable rates to people based on the below-the-poverty line card, and is being implemented by the urban development department. Discounts of 50-70 per cent are offered on medicines, life-saving and expensive drugs and medical equipment.

The Central Government has set up a high-level panel to strengthen the assessment and accreditation of higher educational institutions.
The committee has been formed under the chairmanship of K Radhakrishnan, chairperson, Board of Governors, IIT Kanpur. He is also the chairperson of IIT Council Standing Committee.

Switzerland has launched the world’s longest passenger train with 100 coaches, 4,550 seats, measuring 1910 metres.
Rhaetian Railway, a Swiss transport company, has set a world record for the longest passenger train, to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Switzerland’s first railway. The record-breaking train was formed of 25 new ‘Capricorn’ electric trains, which passed through the landscape in the Swiss Alps.

Adani New Industries has installed India’s largest Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) at Mundra in Gujarat. The turbine is said to be taller than Statue of Unity (182 meters).
The turbine has been installed by Mundra Windtech Ltd (MWL), a wholly-owned subsidiary incorporated by Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL).

Notes:
Top-seeded Indian Grandmaster, R Praggnanandhaa and compatriot P V Nandhidhaa won the titles in the Open and women’s sections respectively in the Asian Continental Chess championship.
Praggnanandhaa drew with compatriot B Adhiban in the ninth and final round to win the title with seven points. The victory also earned Praggnanandhaa a ticket to the next FIDE World Cup. In the women’s event, Nandhidhaa remained unbeaten throughout to finish first with 7.5 points.

The US Embassy and Treasury selected the municipal bond issued by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation for a case study on successful listing.
It also cited the bond as a benchmark for other civic bodies who are set to enter stock exchanges. US Embassy launched a book titled ‘All About Municipal Bond’ in New Delhi and VMC’s case study is a part of the book. VMC listed a five-year Rs 100 crore bond at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

World Tsunami Awareness Day is observed every year on November 5 to raise awareness about the natural disaster. World Tsunami Awareness Day was first suggested by Japan and in December 2015, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) declared November 5 as World Tsunami Awareness Day.
Three weeks after the tsunami in the Indian Ocean in 2004, the international community gathered in Kobe, Japan, and adopted the 10-year Hyogo Framework for Action.  In the past 100 years, about 58 tsunamis have claimed over 260,000 lives.
