Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has won Brazil’s presidential election by a small margin of 2 million votes thereby defeating incumbent Jair Bolsonaro.
Although the Left-wing former leader Lula wins presidency, incumbent far-right contender Jair Bolsonaro has not conceded his defeat yet. The election marked the first time that the sitting president failed to win re-election.

Union Education Ministry has recently signed MoU with FIFA and AIFF for implementing ‘Football4Schools’ initiative in India.
‘Football4Schools’ program is expected to be a positive tool to inspire children and ensure their holistic development, by main-streaming sports along with studies.

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) awarded the ‘Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal’ for the Year- 2022, to 63 police officers from Telangana, Punjab, Maharashtra, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir. The medal was constituted in the year 2018.
They were selected for four special operations conducted in areas of terrorism, border action, arms control, prevention of narcotics smuggling and rescue operations.

The Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir has organised ‘Chenab White Water Rafting Festival’ under ‘Back to Village Phase-4’.
More than 1,000 people especially the youth attended the event held in the Shibnote area of the Jammu and Kashmir. The festival has been started to promote adventure tourism round the year in Doda district.

The International Open Access Week is celebrated around the world from 24 to 30 October. It is an annual initiative to promote open access (OA) in the academic and research world.
This year the motto is Open for Climate Justice and aims to raise awareness of how open access can be a means for climate justice. In India, CSIR-NIScPR is one of the largest Open Access publishers of India which publishes 15 Diamond Open Access scholarly journals. In 2022, the International Open Access Week, entered its fifteenth year of celebration.

Jamshed J Irani, also known as the steel man of India, passed away recently in Jamshedpur in the age of 86.
He served as the Managing Director of Tata Steel in 1992 before retiring in 2001. Irani retired from the board of Tata Steel in June 2011, leaving behind a legacy of 43 years. He was conferred the Padma Bhushan in 2007 for his contribution to industry.  Dr Irani was also the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Government of India in 2008 for his services in metallurgy.

According to a report by the India Exim Bank, India has recently become a major exporter of defence products and will be able to meet Africa’s needs in maritime, aerospace, and defence sectors.
According to the report, Mauritius, Mozambique, and Seychelles together accounted for 6.6% of India’s arms exports to Africa between 2017-2021. India was the 23rd largest exporter of defence goods from 2017-2021.

Indian President inaugurates Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) North Eastern Regional Campus at Aizawl.
The President attended the Convocation of Mizoram University (MZU) On the occasion and she also virtually inaugurated various education-related projects which a permanent campus of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) at Aizawl.

As per a recent report released by Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the UN children’s fund UNICEF and the World Food Programme, almost eight million people in South Sudan, or two thirds of the population in the deeply troubled country, are at risk of hunger.
As per the report, proportion of people facing high levels of food insecurity and malnourishment is at the highest level ever, surpassing levels seen even during the conflict in 2013 and 2016.

As per the 2022 WTW Global Gender Wealth Equity report, women will have 74 per cent of the wealth accumulated by men, when they retire.
In Asia-Pacific (APAC), India had the worst gender wealth gap (64 per cent), more than the global average. A major factor for this is India’s gender pay gap for professional and technical roles. Another factor is that opportunities for women in leadership positions are limited, with only 3 per cent of women in workforce at senior positions.
