World Radiography Day is celebrated every year on November 8, marking the anniversary of the discovery of X-rays.
The day also celebrates the hard-working radiographers and radiologists. X-rays were discovered accidentally by Professor Wilhelm Röntgen of Germany in 1895. Röntgen discovered the fluorescent glow of crystals when he was working with a cathode-ray tube fluorescent glow of crystals.

The Ministry of Health maintains `Sugam’, an index of drug licenses issued to companies by state FDAs.
The government is setting up a comprehensive database of drug formulations manufactured and marketed in the country. This is a corrective action to address the issue of quality monitoring and regulatory policing, after the deaths of kids in Gambia on consumption of India-made medicines.

Forbes Asia unveiled its annual ‘Asia’s Power Businesswomen’ list which features 20 women from the Asia-Pacific region.
The three Indian businesswomen who feature in the list are Ghazal Alagh, co-founder, Honasa Consumer, Soma Mondal, the first woman to chair SAIL and Namita Thapar, Executive Director, India business, Emcure Pharma.

Notes:
A documentary filmmaker working on a film on the indologist famous for working on the first Kannada dictionary, has digitally recreated one of those fonts for Kannada.
Named as the ‘Kittel font’, it will be released on an open source platform. The font is just one of the fonts used during the 1860-1925 period.

The Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat released the Dynamic Ground Water Resource Assessment Report for the entire country for the year 2022.
The assessment was carried out by Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) and States/UTs. As per the 2022 assessment report, the total annual ground water recharge for India is 437.60 billion cubic meters (BCM) and annual ground water extraction for India is 239.16 BCM.  Out of the total 7089 assessment units in the country, 1006 units were categorized as ‘Over-exploited’.

As per a recent notification by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, supporting documents need to be updated at least once by Aadhaar holders on completion 10 years from enrolment date.
The government has amended Aadhaar regulations and the updation would ensure accuracy of Aadhaar-related information in the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR).

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has recently notified E-waste (management) rules 2022.
The rules will come into force from 1 April next year and apply to every manufacturer, producer refurbisher and recycler. The rules mandate to reduce the use of lead, mercury, cadmium among others in the manufacturing of electronic equipment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off south India’s first Vande Bharat Express train, connecting Mysuru and Chennai via Bengaluru.
This is the fifth Vande Bharat Express train in the country and it will enhance connectivity between Chennai, Bengaluru and Mysuru. The Prime Minister also flagged off the ‘Bharat Gaurav Kashi Darshan’ train, which aims to send pilgrims from Karnataka to Kashi.

China recently launched a cargo spaceship carrying supplies for its new Tiangong space station. A Long March 7 rocket carrying the cargo ship Tianzhou 5 launched. Two hours later, the cargo ship docked with the newly built Tiangong space station.
The cargo ship was carrying 1.4 tonnes of propellant for the space station complex and about five tonnes of supplies. Shenzhou 15 manned spacecraft is scheduled to launch, later this year.

The fifth edition of the Paris Peace Forum was inaugurated, with the theme of “Riding out the multicrisis”.
The Forum will focus on how to overcome the socio-economic impact of multiple crises, develop international cooperation on major issues, support multilateralism and improve global cooperation mechanisms. The Paris Peace Forum was initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron to promote multilateral cooperation and address global challenges. The first edition was held in 2018.
