Typhoon Vamco has recently hit the Philippines and caused extensive flooding. It is said to have killed around 40 people.
Vamco has followed Typhoon Goni, which is one of the strongest typhoons in the world this year. The country is hit by about 20 typhoons and tropical storms each year as it is one of the world’s most disaster-prone countries.

The World Conservation Monitoring Centre (WCMC) is an agency of UN Environment Programme (UNEP) which is headquartered at Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
The UNEP has recently released a report at Nairobi which is co-authored by World Conservation Monitoring Centre. The report highlights that climate change and bio diversity loss are the twin crises that should be targeted with an integrated approach.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Kris Gopalakrishnan as the first Chairperson of the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH). He is the co-founder of IT major Infosys.
Earlier in the month of August 2020, RBI had announced the setting up of Innovation Hub to promote innovation IN the financial sector.

Two entities namely Natural Support Consultancy Services, based at Jaipur Ltd and Nucleus Software Exports Ltd based at New Delhi commenced the testing of their products in Reserve Bank of India’s regulatory sandbox on Retail Payment.
“e-Rupaya” is the product being developed by Natural Support Consultancy Services which is a Near-Field Communication (NFC) based prepaid card. “Payse” is the product being developed by Nucleus Software Exports.

The Karnataka Cabinet has recently approved the formation of Vijayanagara district as the 31st district of the State.
The new district would be carved out from the existing Ballari district. It is named after the Vijayanagara empire, which ruled from this region.

As per the researchers from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Chapare virus is found to have human-to-human transmission.
The biggest outbreak of the virus was reported in 2019 and caused three deaths. The Chapare haemorrhagic fever (CHHF) is caused by the same arenavirus family, which is responsible for Ebola virus disease. It is named after the region in which it was first observed.

World football governing body FIFA has recently announced that the women’s youth tournaments for 2020 are cancelled.
As per FIFA, India has been awarded the rights to host the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and Costa Rica, the 2022 U-20 Women’s World Cup. Both the countries were due to host the 2020 editions of the respective tournaments.

World Philosophy Day was introduced by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO in 2002.
The UNESCO General Conference proclaimed that World Philosophy Day would be celebrated on every third Thursday of November, in 2005. This year, the observance calls all countries to focus on the philosophical reflections of the current pandemic.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has recently launched a portal for defence land management system (LMS), to bring transparency and speed in dealing with land management matters.
This is the first time an LMS is developed by the Department of Defence along with the Directorate General Defence Estates (DGDE) and Armed forces. The technical support for this GIS-based system has been provided by Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics.

The Union Agriculture Ministry has given approval for subsidised loans worth Rs 3,971.31 crore for implementing micro-irrigation projects.
The interest subvented loans are being offered under Micro Irrigation Fund (MIF) created with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). Out of the total loans, maximum loan has been approved for Tamil Nadu.
