The United Nations is to release USD 100 million as emergency funding to seven countries at risk of famine in Africa and the Middle East.
The UN humanitarian office is releasing funds amid conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic. USD 80 million will go to Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Congo, Nigeria, South Sudan and Yemen. Another USD 20 million has been allotted to counter hunger in Ethiopia.

United Kingdom has recently pledged to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2030.
This deadline is five years earlier than previously pledged by Britain. Earlier, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced “Green revolution”, to cut emissions to net-zero by 2050. Last year, Britain became the first G7 country to set a net-zero emission target by 2050.

World Toilet Day is observed on November 19 to create awareness about sanitation and encourage people to use toilets.
The theme of this year is ‘Sustainable sanitation and climate change’.
Today is World Toilet Day. This day is being observed to create awareness about sanitation and encourage people to use toilets. Under Swachh Bharat Mission, India constructed over 11 crore household toilets and converted over six lakh villages into open defecation free.

India is placed at 77th position in the Global bribery risk rankings by TRACE, an anti-bribery standard setting organisation.
It measures the business bribery risk in 194 countries, territories, and other regions. Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden and New Zealand present the lowest commercial bribery risk. Last year, India stood at 78th rank.

Global financial services and payment technology company Mastercard has partnered with USAID to launch a programme called ‘Project Kirana’.
Under the programme, the organisations aim to expand financial inclusion and encourage women who own or operate kirana shops to adopt digital payments, thereby helping to increase their revenue. Around 3000 women are to be enrolled across Uttar Pradesh, in a pilot step.

The Union Labour Ministry has notified and sought feedback for Draft Rules under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (OSH) Code, 2020.
The rules provide for operationalising provisions related to safety, health and working conditions of the dock workers, building or other construction workers, and mines workers, among others.

The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child on November 21, 1959. On the same date, UNGA adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child in the year 1989.
World Children’s Day is celebrated on 20 November each year, to promote awareness among children worldwide and improving children’s welfare. The Day also marks the anniversary of the date that the UNGA adopted both the Declaration and the Convention on children’s rights.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually participated in the convocation ceremony of the Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gujarat.
He inaugurated five state-of-the-art facilities including ‘India-h2o’, an Indo-EU bilateral project for industrial waste and desalination, under Horizon 2020 initiative. He also said that the country has set a target of reducing its carbon footprint by 30 to 35 per cent.

The Union Government has recently approved 28 Food Processing Projects worth more than 320 crore rupees. They are supported with a grant of over Rs 107 crore by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
They are approved under the Scheme for Creation and Expansion of Food Processing and Preservation Capacities (CEFPPC). The aim of the scheme is to create processing and preservation capacities and expansion of existing food processing units.

Union Food Processing Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has recently inaugurated a mega food park (MFP) at Phagwara of Kapurthala district in the state of Punjab.
The Mega Food park has been built at a cost of Rs 107.83 crores and spread over 55 acres of land. It is expected to benefit over 25000 farmers and create employment opportunities for more than 5000 people. 37 MFPs have been sanctioned in our country as on date, and 20 of them are functioning.
