The Central Government has recently introduced the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Ordinance, 2023 to create the National Capital Civil Service Authority (NCCSA).
It is a new statutory authority that will be headed by the Chief Minister of Delhi in addition to the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary of the Home department.

BL Lacertae (BL Lac) is a blazar situated some 950 million light years away from Earth.
The Indian Astronomical Observatory located in Hanle of Ladakh has collaborated with 10 other global telescopes to observe the brightening of this blazar.

A report titled “Thriving: Making Cities Green, Resilient, and Inclusive in a Changing Climate” was released recently by the World Bank.
The report highlights the critical role of cities in tackling the global climate challenge. It also warned that cities account for about 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The report provided a compass for policymakers to make cities greener, inclusive and more resilient.

Dangote Refinery was commissioned recently by Nigeria. It is expected to transform the country into a net exporter of petroleum products.
Nigeria spent USD 23.3 billion last year on petroleum product imports and consumes around 33 million litres of petrol a day.

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River in Morigaon district in Assam.
The Supreme Court has recently asked the Central Government and the Assam government to respond to a plea seeking directions to declare the area around the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary an eco-sensitive zone.

The National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) is organising the first Urban Climate Film Festival through the CITIIS program under U20 engagement events.
The festival is being organised with support from the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India, the French Development Agency (AFD), and the European Union.

‘Kaveri 2.0’ web-based property registration application is set to be rolled out by the Revenue Department in all 43 sub-registrar offices in Bengaluru.
Out of 256 offices, the Karnataka state government so far has launched the app in 165 offices in 24 districts.

The 2023-2033 Implementation Plan for Advancing Climate, Environment and Health Science and Services was endorsed recently by the WMO. It is a 10-year plan that aims to integrate and scale up health services.
Speakers at the 19th World Meteorological Congress also raised concerns over extreme heat and the need to strengthen early warning systems.

India’s Murali Sreeshankar successfully defended his title in the men’s long jump event at the International Jumping Meeting 2023 in Kallithea, Greece.
The 24-year-old M Sreeshankar registered his season-best jump of 8.18m to beat compatriot and national record holder Jeswin Aldrin, who claimed silver with an effort of 7.85m.
