A report from the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre in Geneva revealed that in 2022, approximately 2.5 million people in India were internally displaced as a result of natural disasters, particularly severe floods and cyclones.
The South Asia region experienced a total of 12.5 million internal displacements due to disasters, with floods accounting for 90% of the displacements in the area.

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, situated in Japan, is dedicated to documenting the atomic bombing of the Hiroshima during in the Second World War.
Prime Minister Modi and other leaders at the G7 Summit have visited this museum recently.

DK Shivakumar recently became the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy to Shivakumar at the swearing-in ceremony. Siddaramaiah was sworn in as the chief minister for the second time.

Janganana Bhawan was inaugurated recently by Union Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. It is the office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India.
He also launched Web portal for Birth and Death Registration, an Upgraded SRS Mobile Application with Geofencing, and Web portal for Online Sale of Census Publications. Mr Shah also released Census Compendium from 1981 to upcoming Census.

Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary is located near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Barkudia limbless skink has been spotted recently at the Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary.
It is a small reptile known for its unique limbless body and adaptation capability.

INDUS-X is a joint initiative of the United States and India. Under this initiative, the two countries will collaborate to co-produce jet engines, infantry vehicles and long-range artillery.
It also aims to promote partnerships between the two countries’ defence innovation ecosystems. Some high-technology initiatives are expected to be announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the U.S. in June 2024.

USS Gerald R. Ford is the largest aircraft carrier in the world. It recently made its first foreign call.
The ship is named after the 38th President of the United States, Gerald Ford. The ship sailed into Oslo, a first for such a U.S. ship, in a show of NATO force at a time of heightened tension between NATO and Russia over the war in Ukraine.

Plastic fall is a weather phenomenon that involves the downpour of microplastics from the sky. The first-ever plastics pollution weather forecast predicted a plastic fall in Paris.
According to the report, the city will experience about 40-48 kilograms of free-floating plastic bits daily.
