U.S.-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) was launched in May 2022. The first-ever meeting of the Strategic Trade Dialogue to implement the outcomes of the US-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology is set to be held shortly.
This meeting is expected to help streamline export controls, improve high-tech commerce and facilitate tech transfer between countries.

Gauri, a documentary based on journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh, has recently won the “Best Long Documentary Award” at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal 2023.
The film festival is organized to promote, foster and enhance cultural harmony between diverse communities of South Asia.

Tungnath temple is the country’s highest Shiva temple located in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand.
An Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) study has found that Tungnath temple in Garhwal Himalayas is tilting 5 to 6 degrees and smaller structures in the complex by 10 degrees.

Prime Ministers of the UK and the Netherlands have agreed to build a global coalition that would help in the procurement of F-16 fighter jets for Ukraine.
This comes a day after Ukraine President held meeting with the UK Prime Minister.

The Production Linked Incentive Scheme 2.0 for IT Hardware was approved recently by the Union Cabinet.
The budget outlay for this scheme is Rs.17,000 crore. The PLI scheme covers laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers and ultra-small form factor devices.

A report from the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre in Geneva revealed that in 2022, approximately 2.5 million people in India were internally displaced as a result of natural disasters, particularly severe floods and cyclones.
The South Asia region experienced a total of 12.5 million internal displacements due to disasters, with floods accounting for 90% of the displacements in the area.

Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Airport Authority of India (AAI) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is organising Asia’s largest event on Civil Aviation, Wings India 2024.
The event is scheduled to be held in January 2024 at Begumpet Airport, Hyderabad, India. The theme of the event is “Connecting the World: Setting the stage for India @ 2047” (100 Years of India’s Independence).

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI has decided to withdraw Rs.2,000 denominated notes from circulation.
It has urged everyone to exchange these notes by September 30 this year.  However, the notes will continue as legal tender. Exchange of Rs 2,000 notes into notes of other denominations can be made upto a limit of Rs 20,000.

Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU is a research unit within Oxford University’s Department of Biology.
It is collaborating with Panthera, the global wild cat conservation organisation, to conserve Africa’s lions. Together, both organisations have supported work in 12 countries.

Scientists from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) have proposed a new metric called the root mean square (rms) granulation contrast.
Its purpose is to quantify the image quality of ground-based solar telescopes.
