Union Ministry of Home Affairs recently announced the finalization of the Model Prisons Act, 2023. There is no provision for reform and rehabilitation of prisoners in the existing Act. Pasang Dawa Sherpa recently became the second person in the world to climb Mount Everest for the 26th time. This record was earlier set by the Nepalese guide Kami Rita Sherpa.
His record comes after he completed his first successful climb in 1998.

U.S.-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) was launched in May 2022. The first-ever meeting of the Strategic Trade Dialogue to implement the outcomes of the US-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology is set to be held shortly.
This meeting is expected to help streamline export controls, improve high-tech commerce and facilitate tech transfer between countries.

This is expected to strength corporate governance norms. Under the current regulations, no unitholder of these trusts can enjoy superior voting rights.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently released a new guideline on non-sugar sweeteners (NSS).
It recommends against the use of NSS to control body weight or reduce the risk of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). The long-term usage of NSS can be ineffective and result in health problems.

The recent collapse of the Go First Airline could have a major impact on entire airlines ecosystem. This cash-strapped airline has announced that it has cancelled all flights until May 26.
It marks the first major airline collapse in India since Jet Airways filed for bankruptcy in 2019. Go First’s total debt to financial creditors was 65.21 billion rupees.

South Africa is set to manufacture a cost-effective and generic variant of the long-acting cabotegravir (CAB-LA) drug, used for HIV prevention, marking the first time the country produces this medication.
The move is significant as the majority of medicine production on the African continent is limited to only 38 countries, resulting in less than 40% of medicines being manufactured locally.
