The “Great Grandfather” tree is currently in the process of being organized as the oldest tree in the world. Situated in Chile, this tree is believed to be around more than 5,000 years old.
The sample which was extracted and other dating methods suggest the tree is up to 5,484 years old. The current record-holder is a 4,853 year old bristlecone pine tree in California.

The Department of Telecommunications, Government of India has finally launched the Sanchar Saathi portal, to help users track their lost or stolen mobile phones.
It uses the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system, to block or locate lost mobile phones. The system is managed by the Centre for Department of Telematics (CDoT).

The Training Programme on Legislative Drafting will be inaugurated by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The programme was organised by the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies (ICPS), in collaboration with the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE).

INS Mormugao is the second ship of the Visakhapatnam-class stealth guided-missile destroyers of the Indian Navy.
It was built at Mazagon Dock Limited and the ship was commissioned on 18 December 2022. A Brahmos Supersonic cruise missile was test fired using this vessel recently.

The Association for Democratic Reforms recently released the report titled ‘Analysis of Sources of Funding of Regional Parties of India, FY 2021-22’.
According to this report, more than three-fourth of the income of regional parties came from unknown sources in 2021-22.

Non-kinetic warfare, also known as the contactless warfare, is the action against an adversary without a direct conventional military action.
Defence Rajnath Singh said the concept of non-kinetic warfare has highlighted the need for advanced technology in the defence sector.

The Telecom Department has developed an AI-based facial recognition tool called the Artificial Intelligence and Facial Recognition powered Solution for Telecom SIM Subscriber Verification (ASTR). It is capable of running checks on subscriber databases of telecom operators to minimize instances of cyber frauds.

The Central Government recently approved the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P), Potash (K) and Sulphur (S) for the 2023 kharif season.
Rice, maize, and cotton are some of the major Kharif crops in India and require good rainfall. It had also approved NBS rates for Rabi season this year (January to March).

Death cap mushroom is a poisonous fungus found across Europe. It grows up to 15 centimetres high, with tan or yellow-green tops. They are responsible for 90% of those fatalities from eating poisonous mushrooms each year.
Scientists at China’s Sun Yat-sen University have discovered a dye called indocyanine green, which is capable of being an antidote to this mushroom. It is a dye routinely used for medical imaging.

The Union Finance Ministry has implemented an amnesty scheme for traders who have defaulted on their export obligations under the Advance and EPCG (export promotion for capital goods) authorization scheme.
According to the amnesty scheme, EXIM traders who have not fulfilled their export obligations can rectify the situation by paying customs duty and interest, up to a maximum limit of 100%.
