Bowen Coking Coal has been authorised yextract metallurgical coal for making steel. This is the first new coal mine to be given the go-ahead by the government.

The first-ever mining startup summit will be organized by the Indian Government. It will be organized to encourage the participation of startups in mineral and mining sector.
The summit will be held in collaboration with IIT Bombay to encourage entry of start-ups in the mining sector.

Union Ministry of Home Affairs recently announced the finalization of the Model Prisons Act, 2023. There is no provision for reform and rehabilitation of prisoners in the existing Act. The new act is expected to serve as the guiding document for states and for the adoption in their respective jurisdictions.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently released a new guideline on non-sugar sweeteners (NSS).
It recommends against the use of NSS to control body weight or reduce the risk of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). The long-term usage of NSS can be ineffective and result in health problems.

Two tigresses captured recently in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur by the forest department will be released into the Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve (NNTR), as part of a tiger translocation programme.

The light tank Zorawar is developed jointly by the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) and the private sector firm L&T.
It is expected to undergo trials in the high-altitude terrains by the end of 2023. The tank has been named after the legendary General Zorawar Singh who led multiple successful victories in Tibet.
