Italy’s ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Luca Attanasio was killed along with an Italian policeman and their Congolese driver, in an attack on a United Nations convoy which happened in eastern DRC.
They were on a visit to a World Food Programme (WFP) school feeding project in Rutshuru, a town in DRC. Attanasio is the second European ambassador to have been killed while serving in the DRC.

Bangladesh has recently banned the painkiller ketoprofen used widely to treat the cattle. With this it became the first country to ban all the drugs known so far to be toxic to vultures.
Over 10 years ago, the country banned the veterinary drug diclofenac. As per Ornithologists, this is a landmark step to save the small existing population of Asia’s globally threatened vultures.

Indian social activist Anjali Bharadwaj has been selected as one of 12 anti-corruption champions announced by the United States.
The 48-year-old activist served as an active member of the Right to Information Movement in India for over two decades. She is also the founder of the Satark Nagrik Sangathan (SNS), which aims to promote transparency and accountability in government.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K Palaniswami has recently inaugurated the Advanced Institute of Integrated Research in Livestock and Animal Science (AIIRLAS) in the state.
It is located in Thalaivasal of Salem district. It is considered to be the largest such institution in Asia and has been constructed at a cost of Rs.1,023 crore.

The Indian Army is in the process of acquiring 556 Augmented Reality Head Mounted Display (ARHMD) systems.
As per a recent communication from the Defence Ministry, the ARHMD system may be considered as an enhancement to the Land-based Air Defence Weapon Systems. The Army also signed a contract for the construction of eight Missile-cum-Ammunition (MCA) barges.

Madhya Pradesh approved a law to give life imprisonment to food adulterators, with the cabinet recently approving a Penal Law (Madhya Pradesh Amendment) Bill, 2021.
In 2019, a massive rally was organised in the state against food adulteration, with the participation of several citizens of all age groups.

The ‘Zero Discrimination Day’ is observed annually across the world on March 1, by UNAIDS. The day was first celebrated on March 1, 2014.
This year, UNAIDS is focussing on the urgent need to take action to end the inequalities remaining in the world.The symbol for Zero Discrimination Day is the butterfly.

The donkey skins are being used to make Ejiao, a gelatin used in the Chinese market for manufacturing traditional medicines. It is a hard gel used sometimes in food or drink or in cosmetics.
It is used in the Chinese market for manufacturing traditional medicines. The increased demand in China for this purpose is believed to be the cause of the sharp decline of India’s donkey population over the last decade.

National Agriculture Disaster Management Plan (NADMP) seeks to guide the Union Agriculture Ministry in ensuring timely response to natural disasters like drought, floods and sudden crisis like COVID-19 pandemic.
It identifies 34 hazards posing threats to the agriculture sector. These include heat waves, earthquakes, animal attacks, desertification, agricultural fires, cyclones and overdependence on chemicals.

The Meghalaya Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021 was recently announced by the state government of Meghalaya. It will come to effect from April 1 this year.
The dedicated policy has set a target of 15 per cent electric vehicle penetration by the year 2025. The plan involves providing incentives to limited early adopters of EV.
