Recently, veterinarians performed a rare operation on a moray eel in Thiruvananthapuram Zoo in Kerala, one of the oldest zoos in the country. This is the first time a surgery has been done ish has been operated on in the Indian zoos.
Moray eel is a family of marine and brackish water eels (elongated ray-finned fishes) that occur throughout the world.

The Union Science and Technology Minister has launched the CSIR Floriculture Mission, which was approved t be implemented across 21 states/UTs.
The Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan, has asked the scientists of CSIR laboratories in India to develop land available at each laboratory to set up as a model under the “CSIR Floriculture Mission”.

According to a recent report commissioned by Amazon Web Services (AWS), India’s present workforce comprises only 12% digitally skilled employees.
It also highlighted that the number of employees requiring digital skills in the country will need to increase nine-times by 2025.

Ace Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia has regained the top spot in the world rankings after he clinched a second successive gold medal at the Matteo Pallicone Ranking Series.
In the 65kg freestyle event final in Rome, he defeated his Mongolian counterpart to win gold. Bajrang Punia also won gold in the tournament last year. He had also earned his quota for the Tokyo Olympics.

Leading private sector bank HDFC Bank has announced the launch of a dedicated programme on the occasion of International Women’ Day.
Called as the ‘SmartUp Unnati programme’, it aims to mentor women entrepreneurs by senior women leaders at the bank, over the next one year.

The world’s most powerful supercomputer Fugaku has been developed in Japan, which has been recently made available for research use.
Japanese scientific research institute RIKEN and Fujitsu started its development six years ago. Fugaku has topped the Top500 list, which is a supercomputer benchmark index, for two consecutive years.

The Government of India has decided to impose a 40% customs duty for import of solar modules and 25% customs duty for import of solar cells to India.
This measure has been made to reduce imports and boost the local manufacturing of solar components. The new customs duty would come to force from April 2022.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is set to unveil the draft e-Commerce Policy.
The policy is expected to lay down the principles for data usage in industrial development. It also aims to put in place protective measures to prevent misuse and access of data by unauthorised persons.

The industries department of the Government of Karnataka has introduced a new system of centralised inspection of factories.
Under the new and simplified system, departments of factories, boilers and industrial safety, labour and legal metrology, and the Pollution Control Board will carry on joint inspections of factories, manufacturing units and business entities in a single window manner.

Gowsalya Shankar belonging to Tamil Nadu has been awarded with the International Woman of Courage (IWOC) Award by the US Consulate in Chennai recently.
She has been running a trust named Shankar Social Justice Trust since 2017 which aims to fight atrocities against caste-based violence.
