This project was handed over by the Haryana government after several delays to the National Highways Authority of India in 2016. It is being developed in 4 phases with 2 phases in Gurugram and the other 2 in Delhi.

March 4 is observed every year as National Safety Day in India with the aim of creating awareness among people with respect to safety measures.
This year, the focus of National Safety Day is on road safety and the theme is ‘Sadak Suraksha’ (road safety). The celebrations this year have also been spread over a week and National Safety Week will be observed from March 4 to March 10.

Kermadec Islands is a group of sub-tropical islands located in the southern part of Pacific Ocean. It is located in the north-east of New Zealand.
They are uninhabited and are under the administration of New Zealand. Three earthquakes recently hit the southern Pacific Ocean near the Kermadec Islands and New Zealand.

The Andhra Pradesh state government announced that it would present Gender Budget in the following Budget session of the Assembly.
Under the new initiative, the state will provide data related to allocations made and funds spent on women’s welfare under various schemes.

The European Union under its plan of ‘2030 Digital Compass’ released its plan to produce a fifth of the global output of front-line semiconductors.
It seeks to achieve the status at the end of this decade and aims to make its first quantum computer in five years. The plan aims to reduce the reliance on key technologies owned by Chinese and U.S. companies

The Indian Navy has inducted into its fleet INS Karanj – the third Scorpene-class conventional diesel-electric submarine.
This has been built by the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) under its project 75. Under this project, six Scorpene-class submarines are built under technology transfer from France.

Russia and China have unveiled plans to work together in the space sector. Both the countries have planned for a joint lunar space station.
Russian Space Agency – Roscosmos has signed an agreement in this regard with China National Space Agency, for construction of a research facility on earth or in the moon’s orbit.

The endangered Olive Ridley female turtles have started arriving at the Gahirmatha beach in Odisha state.
It is said to be the world’s largest known rookery of these species to lay eggs. This phenomenon of converging on the nesting ground for mass laying of eggs is otherwise called ”Arribada” in Spanish. Last year, around 4.50 lakh turtles turned up in the beach for mass nesting.

Banks Board Bureau, which started operating from 1 April 2016, recommends selection of heads of public sector banks and financial institutions.
Recently, a set of 14 general managers and chief general managers have been appointed as executive directors (ED) in 10 public sector banks. The Banks Board Bureau (BBB) had recommended names of 13 candidates, in September last year.

Notes:
The Arjuna Sahayak irrigation is being implemented by the Government of Uttar Pradesh on the river Dhasan.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs.2,600 crore and is scheduled to be completed in this year. It is expected to irrigate more than 1.5 lakh farmers and provide water to 168 villages of the state.
