The World Sparrow Day is celebrated every year on 20th March. It is celebrated to raise awareness about various species of sparrows including house sparrow and of threats by manmade activities to their populations.
It is celebrated by the Nature Forever Society of India along with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation of France.

Notes:
The state Government of Jharkhand launched a campaign named SAAMAR (Strategic Action for Alleviation of Malnutrition and Anaemia Reduction).
It aims to tackle malnutrition in the state by identifying anaemic women and malnourished children. It would converge various state departments and agencies to effectively reduce anaemia in the state.

Notes:
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has recently inaugurated three space incubation technology centres in NIT – Nagpur, Bhopal and Rourkela.
This is aimed to encourage and give a platform for space entrepreneurs in India. ISRO has already opened three such centres at NIT Agartala, Trichy and Jalandhar.

Members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) including India, Pakistan and China will hold a joint anti-terrorism exercise this year.
The joint exercise ‘Pabbi-Antiterror-2021’ was announced during the 36th meeting of the Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure held in Uzbekistan. SAARC is a 8-membered multilateral association headquartered at Kathmandu.

March 21 is observed by the United Nations as the International Day of Forests. This day commemorates the importance of green forest cover around the world.
The theme for this year’s International Day of Forests is “Forest restoration: a path to recovery and well-being”. This day was first proclaimed by UN in 2012.

The Lok Sabha has passed the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill – 2021. This bill seeks to amend the definition for “Government of Delhi” as Lieutenant-Governor (L-G).
The bill also mandated the elected government in Delhi – NCR to take the opinion of the L-G before any executive action.

The University of Delhi organized a programme to commemorate 90 years of martyrdom of the leaders: Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru on ‘Shaheed Diwas’.
Union Minister of Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ virtually inaugurated the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Smarak. The existing collection of books on freedom fighters in the Bhagat Singh Smarak has been announced to be converted into “Shaheed Smriti Pustakalaya”.

In the state of Kerala, the estimated incidence of tuberculosis (TB) went down by 37.5% between 2015-20.
With this, the southern state has registered an annual decline rate of 7.5%. As the global reduction rate would only be 2-3% and hence the state’s reduction rate is very significant. The state has also won the bronze medal in the Health Ministry’s Certification of Efforts Towards Elimination of TB.

‘Hola Mohalla’ is the annual Sikh festival celebrated in the state of Punjab. This year, it is scheduled to be celebrated from March 24 to March 29.
Kiratpur Sahib and Anandpur Sahib are the two venues selected for the celebration of the festival. It will attract lakhs of devotees and tourists from different parts of the country as well as the world. On the last day, there will be a procession and display of martial arts by Nihang Sikhs.

Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman virtually launched Central Scrutiny Centre (CSC) and Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority’s (IEPFA) Mobile App.
These are the initiatives by Ministry of Corporate Affairs to impart technology in programmes. They have been launched with an aim to create a new corporate and investor friendly ecosystem.
