The telecommunication regulator – TRAI has launched a TV Channel Selector web portal. Using this portal, consumers who do not have smart phones can check their subscription, modify it, view all channels provided by their cable operators.
Alternatively, this service could also be accessed using TV Channel Selector App, using a smart phone.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) granted in-principle approval consortium of Centrum Financial Services and fintech startup BharatPe, to takeover Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank.
In September 2019, RBI capped cash withdrawals and launched an investigation into its accounting lapses. Centrum Financial Services is a subsidiary of the listed entity Centrum Capital. Resilient Innovations Ltd, which operates BharatPe, will be an equal partner in the small finance bank.

The Union government has issued a gazette notification to set up the Karnataka Coastal Zone Management Authority. under provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
This 15-member body would protect and improve the quality of the coastal environment. Its target is preventing and controlling environmental pollution in the Coastal Regulation Zone in Karnataka.

The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways announced that the Ministry will make the Flex-fuel engines, mandatory for the automobile industry.
In a flex fuel engine, there will be choice for the people to use 100 per cent crude oil or 100 per ethanol. India has earlier preponed the cut-off date for mixing 20 per cent ethanol in petrol from 2030 to 2025.

DRS Stands for Drag Reduction System, which is a method in F1 racing, in which drivers follow their rivals at a very proximate distance in order to overtake them.
Recently, F1 champion Max Verstappen won the French Grand Prix, by overtaking his rival Lewis Hamilton in the penultimate lap using the DRS technique.

German agrochemical major Bayer has launched the first-ever yellow watermelon variety ‘Yellow Gold 48’ under Seminis brand in India.
The yellow watermelon variety has been commercially introduced in India after two years of local trials. With this new variety, watermelon growers can benefit from better yield potential, better disease and pest tolerance, and higher returns. This can be cultivated from October to February.

British scientists have warned of “miserable winter” ahead for the country due to the emergence of new respiratory viruses.
The experts describe it as the “fourth wave winter. As the social distancing reduced people’s exposure to usual endemic respiratory viruses such as pneumonia and bronchiolitis, these new viruses emerge after every pandemic.

Odisha has recently witnessed the first natural nesting of gharials. With this, it has become the only state to have all the three species of the reptile: freshwater gharials, muggers, and saltwater crocodiles.
Gharials were first introduced in 1975 in Odisha. They are considered as the most critically endangered and genetically weak species, compared to saltwater crocodiles and muggers.

India has launched the world’s first exclusive Green rating system for High Speed Rail. CII-Indian Green Building Council has launched the IGBC Green High-Speed Rail Rating System.
IGBC has collaborated with the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL). This rating system will enable new High-Speed Rail (HSR) stations to apply energy efficient concepts during operations.

Notes:
The Delimitation commission was set up six months after the abrogation of Article 370 and withdrawal of J&K’s special status in August 2019. The commission is headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Desai.
Recently, the Commission held a meeting with deputy commissioners (DCs) of all 20 districts in J&K. This is ahead of the all-party meeting called by the Prime Minister, with the leaders from J&K.
