An international group of archaeologists have discovered the remains of new human species near the city of Ramla, Israel.
As per the study, these prehistoric remains could not be matched to any known species from the Homo genus, which includes modern humans – Homo sapiens. The ‘Nesher Ramla Homo’ population is estimated to have lived in and around Israel from about 420,000 to 120,000 years ago.

Recently, the leaders of the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) announced a joint platform to help countries access Covid-19 vaccines, treatments and technologies.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the state has not reported a single rabies case in the last three years.
This makes Goa the first rabies-free state in the country. The state has achieved over 5 lakh vaccinations against the rabies in dogs. It also has set up 24-hours rabies surveillance with an emergency hotline and rapid response team for dog bite victims.

A US court sentenced former police officer Derek Chauvin to 22 and a half years in jail for the murder of George Floyd.
His death created a huge outcry against racial injustice in the USA and across the world. The Court went beyond the 12-and-a-half-year sentence prescribed under state guidelines. This is one of the longest prison terms ever imposed on a US police officer.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight tested the new generation nuclear-capable ballistic missile, Agni-P from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam island off the coast of Odisha.
Agni P is an advanced variant of the Agni class of missiles and is a canisterised missile with a range capability between 1000km and 2000 km.

Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, but the peninsula is internationally recognised as a part of Ukraine. Ukraine and the United States have launched a military exercise Sea Breeze 2021.
It involves more than 30 countries in the Black Sea and southern Ukraine. Russia’s embassy in Washington called for the latest exercises to be cancelled.

As per a recent report by Chainalysis, investments in cryptocurrency grew from about 200 million to nearly 40 billion in the year 2020.
The Reserve Bank of India, however expressed it has “major concerns” about the asset class. Six months ago, the Indian government proposed a ban on trading in digital coins.

National Statistics Day is celebrated on June 29 on the birth anniversary of late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, the ‘father of Indian statistics’.
End Hunger, Achieve Food Security and Improved Nutrition and Promote Sustainable Agriculture (Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 of the UN) is the theme of this year’s National Statistics Day.

The world’s biggest mobile event of the year Mobile World Congress (MWC), began in hybrid form on June 28 in Barcelona, a city in Spain.
Last year, the event got cancelled due to high number of cases of Covid-19. Top Brands like Google, Nokia, Xiaomi, Facebook and Sony are not attending this year’s in-person event. MWC Barcelona, is an annual event focused on innovations in telecom industry, hosted by GSMA.

Notes:
The Digital Green Pass is the EU’s Digital COVID Certificate (EUDCC), which permits movement of vaccinated people into the European Union countries for general and tourist purposes. It acts as an evidence of a person being vaccinated against COVID-19 disease.
India’s Covishield is not in the European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved vaccine list and hence people vaccinated with Covishield are denied Digital Green Pass.
