Indian Institute of Technology Madras launched a ‘Centre for research on start-ups and risk financing’ (CREST)’.
It would also create a data repository on Indian start-ups to address a major hurdle for engaging in high-quality research. This information would be made accessible for researchers and policymakers that can result in international publications.

The 10th edition of Digital News Report for the year 2021 has been released by Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. It details the impact of COVID 19 pandemic on news consumption across the globe.
The report has been compiled based on the data collected from six continents and 46 markets, which includes India, Indonesia, Thailand, Nigeria, Colombia, and Peru for the first time. India ranked 31 out of 46 countries on levels of trust in news.

Portugal star football player Cristiano Ronaldo has recently become the joint-top scoring men’s international player of all time.
After he fired two goals against France in the Euro 2020 clash, he reached 109 goals in 176 matches for the national team. He shares the achievement with Iran legend Ali Daei, who scored 109 times in 149 matches between 1993 and 2006.

Recently, the leaders of the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) announced a joint platform to help countries access Covid-19 vaccines, treatments and technologies.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the state has not reported a single rabies case in the last three years.
This makes Goa the first rabies-free state in the country. The state has achieved over 5 lakh vaccinations against the rabies in dogs. It also has set up 24-hours rabies surveillance with an emergency hotline and rapid response team for dog bite victims.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired an extended range version of indigenously developed “Pinaka” rocket.
25 Enhanced Pinaka Rockets were test fired at Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. The 122 mm Caliber rockets were launched from a Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL).

Notes:
El Salvador recently announced that the country is planning to give out starter cryptocurrency accounts with $30 to promote its use. It was the first country to make bitcoin, a legal tender.
The government will allocate $120 million to establish 4 million starter Bitcoin accounts, or wallets named as ‘Chivo’. When the law takes effect in September, accepting Bitcoin will not be mandatory rather it will be optional, as per the Government.

The Amazon subsidiary, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has acquired a messaging application Wickr. The messaging application was founded in 2012.
Wickr is considered as a rival to Signal platform, as it boasts of strong encryption. This acquisition will help Amazon develop platforms for the military, security-conscious firms and government agencies.

Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojana was launched to incentivize employers for creation of new employment along with social security benefits during COVID-19 pandemic. It is implemented by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
In the recent package, the Finance Minister announced that Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojana be extended till 31st March 2022.

Notes:
The United Nations Human rights chief released a report on Racial Justice and Inequality and submitted to the UN Human Rights Council.
As per the report, racism against people of African descent still remains systemic in many parts of the world. The report highlighted 190 deaths of Africans and people of African descent globally at the hands of law enforcement officials.
