The Delimitation commission was set up six months after the abrogation of Article 370 and withdrawal of J&K’s special status in August 2019. The commission is headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Desai.
Recently, the Commission held a meeting with deputy commissioners (DCs) of all 20 districts in J&K. This is ahead of the all-party meeting called by the Prime Minister, with the leaders from J&K.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju launched the official theme song of the Indian Olympic Team of Tokyo 2020.
The song ‘Tu Thaan Le’, has been composed and sung by popular playback singer Mohit Chauhan. Over 100 athletes are expected to represent India at the Tokyo Games.

An international group of archaeologists have discovered the remains of new human species near the city of Ramla, Israel.
As per the study, these prehistoric remains could not be matched to any known species from the Homo genus, which includes modern humans – Homo sapiens. The ‘Nesher Ramla Homo’ population is estimated to have lived in and around Israel from about 420,000 to 120,000 years ago.

The state Government of West Bengal has recently approved the Student Credit Card scheme, under which students can get a soft loan of up to Rs 10 lakh, for perusal of their higher studies. The scheme permits anyone who has resided 10 years in West Bengal to avail its benefits.
The scheme would cover students studying undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral study in India or abroad.

World Drug Report 2021 has been released by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The report states that 275 million people used drugs worldwide in the year 2020 and that 36 million people suffered from drug use disorders.
The report further reveals that, in the last 24 years, the cannabis potency has increased by about 4 times and the percent of adolescents who perceive drugs as harmful fell by as much as 40%.

Ms K K Shailaja – commonly known as “Shailaja Teacher”, the former Health Minister of Kerala has been awarded with the Central European University (CEU) Open Society Prize, for her selfless commitment to the public health services.
This price is awarded to personalities of exceptional distinction who have served the ideals of an open society.

Abhishek Verma created history by becoming the first man to win two World Cup gold medals in individual compound archery.
He recently won the gold in the men’s individual compound event at the Archery World Cup Stage 3, being held in Paris. He had previously won gold at the individual event in Wroclaw in 2015.

A US court sentenced former police officer Derek Chauvin to 22 and a half years in jail for the murder of George Floyd.
His death created a huge outcry against racial injustice in the USA and across the world. The Court went beyond the 12-and-a-half-year sentence prescribed under state guidelines. This is one of the longest prison terms ever imposed on a US police officer.

The Government of India has declared the results of the India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC) 2020, under which Uttar Pradesh stood as the top performer followed by Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Among the cities, Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and Surat (Gujarat) have been awarded jointly for their overall development.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight tested the new generation nuclear-capable ballistic missile, Agni-P from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam island off the coast of Odisha.
Agni P is an advanced variant of the Agni class of missiles and is a canisterised missile with a range capability between 1000km and 2000 km.
