Notes:
The Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed a device called SUMERU-PACS, that helps the wearers of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to feel comfortable without sweating.
After receiving feedback about the discomfort faced by the people wearing PPEs, DRDO has developed a personal air circulation system that can be used inside the PPE. The system is in the form of a small backpack weighing approximately 500 grams.

Veteran Bureaucrat and 1999-batch IAS officer, Brajendra Navnit has been appointed as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India (PRI) to the World Trade Organisation for a period of three years.
He had been the Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office prior to this appointment and will be posted at the Permanent Mission of India (PMI) to the WTO in Geneva. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet also gave a nod to the appointment of IRTS officer Anwar Hussain Shaik for the post of Counsellor, at the PMI to WTO, Geneva for three years.

Skeletal remains of an animal have been recently unearthed at Manalur near Madurai, under the sixth phase of excavation work at Keeladi site, undertaken by the Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology (TNSDA).
The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K Palaniswami had started the 6th phase of excavation work in February at Keeladi, Kondagai, Agaram and Manalur near Madurai. During the excavation, a variety of materials including weaving, animal husbandry and water management were recovered. The materials were found to be belonging to the 5th century of the Tamil culture.

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a state of emergency on Wednesday after 20,000 tonnes of diesel oil to spilled into the Ambarnaya river.
The 60-kilometre-long river is present in Norilsk, which is called as the nickel capital of Russia. The spill of the diesel oil has turned the surface of the river into crimson red colour. The oil is alleged to have come as a result of a fuel tank collapse at a power plant near the city.

Union External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar launched the country’s ‘Panchsheel’ principles for its campaign to secure an elected seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
The Panchsheel (Five Principles) includes Samman (respect), Samvad (dialogue), Sahyog (cooperation), Shanti (peace) and Samriddhi (prosperity). The elections are scheduled to be held on June 17, this year. India is the only endorsed candidate of the Asia-Pacific Group. Once selected, this would be the 8th term for India at the UNSC.

Hyderabad International Airport received the highest Platinum Recognition in the Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific Green Airports Recognition 2020.
The airport owned and operated by the GMR group, has won the recognition in the 15-35 million passengers per annum (MPPA) category. ACI Asia Pacific announced the result to promote best environmental practices, efficient water management practices and to minimise the aviation sector’s impact on the environment.

Former Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden has formally obtained the nomination of the Democratic Party for the upcoming U.S Presidential elections.
The 77-year-old leader had served as the 47th U.S Vice President from 2009 to 2017 during the presidency of Barack Obama. In the elections to be held on November 3, Joe Biden will challenge the incumbent President and Republican Donald Trump, who is seeking re-election.

The Indian Naval Ship Kesari reached Port Victoria in Seychelles to provide COVID-19 related essential medicines, as a part of Mission Sagar.
Under Mission Sagar, the government of India is extending assistance to friendly foreign countries in fighting COVID-19 pandemic. The programme is being implemented in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and other Government agencies. This is in line with the ‘Security and Growth for All in the Region’ vision proposed by the Government earlier.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has recently released the results of the second ‘State Food Safety Index’.
The index was released on the occasion of the webinar ‘Food Safety is everyone’s business’, organised by FSSAI to celebrate the World Food Safety Day during a webinar. Gujarat has topped among larger States in the index, while Chandigarh tops among UTs. Goa topped among smaller States in the index. A e-handbook on ‘Eat Right during COVID-19’ was also released.

Notes:
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has recently approved Cow-Slaughter Prevention (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 by amending Cow slaughter act, 1955.
The amendments seek to protect cows and prevent crimes related to cow slaughter. The ordinance has also inserted an imprisonment provision of up to 7 years for physical damage to cow and fine up to Rs 3 lakh for cases related to cow slaughter.
