Notes:
Indian writer Kritika Pandey has won the regional award for Asia of the prestigious Commonwealth Short Story Prize for this year.
The writer was selected for her work titled ‘The Great Indian Tee and Snakes’. The Commonwealth Short Story Prize is awarded for the best unpublished short fiction, every year. She had also been earlier nominated for the Pushcart Prize. To be eligible for the award, one must be a commonwealth citizen aged above 18 years.

Veteran filmmaker and screen-writer Basu Chatterjee, passed away recently due to age related illness, at 93 years.
The film maker was known for his critically acclaimed films such as ‘Chhoti Si Baat’, ‘Baaton Baaton Mein’, ‘Ek Ruka Hua Faisla’ and ‘Rajnigandha’ among others. He was famous among the middle-class audience in the 70s for his unique film -making.

Union Minister for Human Resources and MoS Housing & Urban Affairs jointly launched TULIP, an Internship Program with Urban Local Bodies across the country.
The initiative TULIP, which stands for `The Urban Learning Internship Program (TULIP)’, provides internship opportunities to fresh graduates in all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Smart Cities across the country. It was initially announced in the Union Budget 2020-21 under the theme ‘Aspirational India’.

Bollywood Actor Akshay Kumar is the only Indian to feature on Forbes 2020 list of World’s Highest-Paid Celebrities at rank 52 and earnings of 48.5 million dollars.
The first spot was bagged by American media person and businesswoman Kylie Jenner, famous for her Kylie Cosmetics. She is followed by US based musician Kanye West with an estimated USD170 million earnings. Ace Tennis player Roger Federer is placed at the third place, followed by Football stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), an autonomous society under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), commemorated its 29th Foundation Day on June 5, 2020.
STPI was established on June 5, 1991 and it has constantly contributed for the growth of Indian Information technology and electronics manufacturing industry. The exports of the STPI-registered unites stands at Rs 4,21,103 crore during 2019-20 from Rs 52 crore in 1992-93.

The government has recently modified public procurement norms to give maximum preference to companies whose goods and services have 50 per cent or more local content.
The revised Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India) Order 2017, has introduced a concept of Class-I, II and non-local suppliers. Class I supplier has local content equal to or more than 50 % local content. Only Class-I local supplier, shall be eligible to bid irrespective of purchase value and hence be given maximum preference in all government purchases.

Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, CBIC has recently launched its flagship faceless assessment programme Turant Customs.
The programme has been launched at Bengaluru and Chennai. With this, the goods imported at Chennai would be assessed by the Customs officers at Bengaluru and vice versa. This is the first phase of the nation-wide rollout of the facility. This step is expected to increase the ease of doing business in the country.

The state cabinet of Odisha has recently adopted ‘Bande Utklala Janani’ as the state anthem, through video-conferencing.
Bande Utkala Janani (Glory to mother Utkala) was written by poet Lakshmikanata Mohapatra and it was first sung at the Utkal Sammilani’s conference at Balasore in 1912. It was a long-standing demand of people of the state to accord state anthem status to the song. After the official recording is released, the song will be sung at all public programmes.

National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has digitally signed a MoU with Rotary India to telecast e-learning content for school children.
The Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank was present during the event. The learning content is to be telecasted in all NCERT TV channels for class 1-12. Under the ‘Vidya Daan 2.0’ programme, Rotary International will provide the e – content in Hindi language to NCERT. Material for special children and Adult Literacy Mission will also be provided.

The World Accreditation Day (WAD) is celebrated on 9th June every year to highlight and promote the role of accreditation in trade & economy.
The theme for World Accreditation Day 2020 is “Accreditation: Improving Food Safety”. It is decided by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). Quality Council of India (QCI) organised a Webinar to commemorate the event.
