Notes:
The Central Government has initiated a consultation process for formulation of a new national Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (STIP 2020).
To formulate this policy, the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India and the Department of Science and Technology (DST) have jointly initiated a decentralised process. This is the 5th Science and Technology policy of the country.

Notes:
The United Nations General Assembly had declared 3 June as World Bicycle Day. The Assembly acknowledged bicycle for its versatility and longevity and its usage for two centuries.
The UN encourage its stakeholders to encourage the use of bicycles as a means of promoting sustainable development and health. It also welcomes various initiatives to organise bicycle rides at the national and local levels and develop a culture of cycling in society.

A tropical storm named Cristobal has been formed in the southern Gulf of Mexico. A heavy flood threat has been announced for Mexico.
Earlier in the year 2016, a tropical storm named Colin formed in the Gulf. As per the warning from the U.S. National Hurricane Center, the storm is expected to dip near the flood-prone city of Ciudad del Carmen and then make a northward turn and head towards the U.S. Gulf coast. It was formed from the miscellanies of the recent Tropical Storm Amanda.

IndusInd Bank has recently launched a mobile application-based facility for opening a current account, thereby becoming the first bank in the country to do so.
The new facility can be used to open current accounts for all kinds of businesses in a few hours. The facility is equipped with the bank’s “Indus Corporate” mobile app and the officials can capture and verify information about customers and their businesses on a real-time basis.

The Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed a device called SUMERU-PACS, that helps the wearers of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to feel comfortable without sweating.
After receiving feedback about the discomfort faced by the people wearing PPEs, DRDO has developed a personal air circulation system that can be used inside the PPE. The system is in the form of a small backpack weighing approximately 500 grams.

The Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot has recently launched the Raj Kaushal Portal and Online Shramik Employment Exchange through video conferencing.
This initiative will enable the migrant labourers who have lost their livelihoods, to get employment and to provide suitable labour force to the industries facing shortage in labour. The portals have been developed by the State IT Department Rajasthan Skill and Livelihoods Development Corporation. The portal has data of nearly 53 lakh workers and 11.18 lakh industries.

Notes:
The Government has allowed filing of NIL GST monthly return in FORM GSTR-3B through SMS. The taxpayers with NIL liability are not required to log on to the GST Portal.
This step is expected to make the tax compliance easy for over 22 lakh registered taxpayers who had to otherwise log into their account and file returns every month. India ranks 115 out of around 190 countries in ease of paying taxes.

The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan has launched a scheme called “Mukhyamantri Shahri Path Vyavsayi Utthan Yojana”
The ‘Street Vendor Registration Portal’ was also launched by the Chief minister. Rs 300 crore was transferred to urban local bodies for implementing the scheme. Earlier, the state provided Rs 1,555 crore to 22,800 Gram Panchayats for the purpose of revamping the development in the state.

Notes:
The World Bank has provided Rs. 1,950 crore loans to the state of West Bengal for tackling COVID crisis and developmental work in the state.
Announcing the news about the loan, the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that out of the total loan, Rs. 1,100 crore will be spent for creating Industrial infrastructures and remaining Rs. 850 crore has been allocated for social-Welfare schemes.

India’s leading shipbuilder, Kolkata-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has recently delivered the Fast Patrol Vessel named ‘ICGS Kanaklata Barua’.
It is the fifth and final ship in the series of Fast Patrol Vessels (FPV) for the Indian Coast Guard. This is also the 105th vessel delivered by the GRSE shipyard, a state-owned defence enterprise. It had earlier delivered vessels named ICGS Priyadarshini, ICGS Annie Besant and ICGS Amrit Kaur in this series to the Coast Guard.
