Veteran diplomat Gaitri I. Kumar has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom.
She is a 1986 batch Indian Foreign Service officer and is presently serving as the Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union. Gaitri I. Kumar is to replace Ruchi Ghanshyam who just retired. In her 3-decade long career, the diplomat has served in many Indian missions including in Paris, Kathmandu, Lisbon and Geneva.

Notes:
The Government of India has recently prohibited the export of alcohol-based hand sanitizers in containers with dispenser pump.
As per the notification of the Directorate general of foreign trade (DGFT), the alcohol-based hand sanitizers exported in any other form or packaging, will be allowed for exports. Earlier, On May 6, the government had prohibited the export of all alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

Notes:
The United General Assembly decided to commemorate 4 June of each year as the ‘International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression’.
The objective of the day is to acknowledge the pain of the children across the world who are the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse. UN had also ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Moreover, the target 16.2 of the UN’s 2030 SDG agenda seeks to end all forms of violence against children.

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year by the United Nations, to encourage awareness and environmental protection.
The theme of World Environment 2020 is ‘Celebrating biodiversity’. The day will be hosted in Colombia in partnership with Germany. It is reported that about one million species facing extinction, as of now. In India, Housing & Urban Affairs Ministry releases series of advisories during a programme ‘Saving Biodiversity through Effective Waste Management’.

As per the latest notification from the Union Women and Child Development Ministry, a ten-member task force has been set up to examine matters regarding health and nutrition of women and children.
Ms Jaya Jaitly has been named the Chairperson of the task force, which includes the Secretaries of various related Departments as ex-officio members. It will examine matters regarding age of motherhood, imperatives of lowering MMR and IMR, improvement of nutritional levels and other health and nutritional issues.

As per the joint release issued by the Permanent Mission of India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights (OHCHR) is urged to play a responsible role and to ensure the protection of vulnerable lives, amidst the current uncertain times.
Eight countries including India, responded to a release issued by OHCHR. It is a department of the Secretariat of the United Nations that works to promote and protect human rights.

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, CSIR has partnered with Atal Innovation Mission, AIM to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in various sectors.
Under the Letter of Intent signed, the two institutions would support world class start-ups and promote innovation and research in the MSME industry through CSIR incubators and ARISE initiative of AIM. They will also work together on new models of innovation like CSIR Innovation parks.

Notes:
The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code was passed in the year 2016. It seeks to consolidate the existing laws into a single law for resolution of insolvency and bankruptcy.
Recently, Union Government has promulgated an ordinance to amend Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. As per the ordnance, a new section 10 A has been inserted in the Code which states that no insolvency application will be filed for defaults arising on or after March 25 for a period of six months (can be extended up to one year).This will save companies which default due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Member countries of the Group of 20 (G 20) recently pledged more than USD 21 billion to fight the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
Earlier in the month of March, the G20 countries injected more than $5 trillion into the global economy to fight the virus and its economic impact across the world. The member countries also urged the World Bank and International Monetary Fund to support the vulnerable countries.

Notes:
As per the recent notification of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the foreign exchange reserves raised USD 3.43 billion to an all-time high of USD 493.48 billion.
The reserves announced were recorded in the week ended May 29, 2020. In the previous week, the forex reserves had raised to USD 490.44 billion. The major component of the overall reserves, foreign currency assets increased to USD 455.21 billion; gold reserves at 32.682 billion and India’s reserve position with the IMF at USD 4.16 billion.
