Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, who is also the Chairman of Indian Red Cross Society, launched the ‘eBloodServices’ mobile application through a video conference.
The application of Indian Red Cross Society has been developed by the E-Raktkosh team launched under the Digital India scheme. Through this app, up to four units of blood can be requested. The E-Raktkosh dashboard is used to display the requisite units and it also ensures assured delivery within the specified time.

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has launched a first of its kind initiative to explore sandalwood and bamboo tree plantation.
The statutory body that functions under the MSME Ministry has begun a drive with plantation of 500 saplings each of sandalwood and bamboo at its Nashik training centre. The plantation process aims at monetization of the property. KVIC has procured sandalwood saplings from Fragrance and Flavour Development Centre (FFDC), Uttar Pradesh and Bamboo saplings from Assam.

As per the annual banking statistics released by the Swiss National Bank (SNB), the United Kingdom has the highest aggregate foreign funds parked with the Swiss banks.
It is followed by the US and West Indies. The top-5 countries account for more than 50 per cent of the aggregate funds. India has moved down three places to 77th rank at the end of 2019, accounting for 0.06% of foreign funds. The funds parked by Indians fell by 5.8 per cent in 2019 to 899 million Swiss francs (Rs 6,625 crore).

Commonwealth Games gold medal winning weightlifter K. Sanjita Chanu, is to receive the prestigious Arjuna award for 2018.
The sportsperson was recently acquitted from doping charges, by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) earlier this month. She had won gold medals in two Commonwealth Games in 2014 and 2018. This news was announced by the Indian Weightlifting Federation, after the approval of Sports Ministry.

The state government of Tripura has recently launched a new scheme called ‘Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar’ scheme.
The scheme aims to combat infant and maternal mortality and malnutrition, by providing nutrition kits to pregnant and lactating women. The government also announced that pregnant women would be tested four times in nearby Primary Health Centers (PHC) and be given a nutrition kit after each test.

The Chief Minister of Gujarat has launched a new initiative called “At One Click”, to aid MSMEs and Textile Industries.
An aid of Rs 1,369 crore for micro small and medium enterprises and textile industries was launched during the session. ”At One Click” is an online cash aid initiative aims to cover 13,000 MSMEs in Gujarat, by providing financial assistance directly in their bank accounts.

ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) leaders have met during the recent annual summit held via video conference.
ASEAN is a regional association with 10 member countries including Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar (Burma), Brunei, Laos. The Chair of ASEAN in 2020 is Vietnam, which hosted the virtual summit, due to travel restrictions amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Veteran Opposition leader of Ireland Micheál Martin has been named as the next Prime Minister of the country, by the Parliament.
The 59-year-old leader took charge as the Prime Minister, to head the first coalition uniting the two prime parties. Micheál Martin had earlier held several important ministries including health, trade, foreign affairs and education.

Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Harsimrat Kaur Badal has launched the Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PM FME) scheme.
The scheme has been launched as a part of “Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan”. It is claimed to generate a total investment of Rs 35,000 crore and generate 9 lakh skilled and semi-skilled employment. The scheme would benefit 8 lakh units through access to information, training and better exposure.

The 36-year-old Indian umpire Nitin Menon recently became the youngest member of the International Cricket Council’s Elite Panel of Umpires.
He replaced England’s Nigel Llong for the upcoming 2020-21 season. Nitin Menon has officiated in three Tests, 24 ODIs and 16 T20Is. He is only the third from India to enter the prestigious group after former captain Srinivas Venkatraghavan and Sundaram Ravi. Michael Gough of England (40), had been the youngest in the current panel.
