The Bihar state government signed MoUs with seven big companies, including Maruti and Flipkart, to provide placement opportunities to the students in ITIs and engineering colleges.
The MoU was signed on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day on July 15. Nine skill-awareness vans were also flagged off by the Bihar Skill Development Mission to motivate the youths of the state for skill development.

Union Minister Home Minister Amit Shah launched the e-FIR system of Gujarat Police in Gandhinagar.
The system will enable the citizens to file an FIR online, without visiting the police stations. All important services of Gujarat Police will be made available online. Within 48 hours of registering the FIR, the police will contact the complainant directly.

Political veteran Dinesh Gunawardena, an ally of Rajapaksa family was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka a day after Ranil Wickremesinghe was elevated to the President’s post.
The 73-year-old leader has previously held multiple Cabinet posts. Wickremesinghe replaced former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa, after an unprecedented economic and political crisis.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command handed over the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island to Andaman and Nicobar Administration for development of tourism and infrastructure growth.
The island, erstwhile known as Ross Island, is situated three kilometers away from Port Blair. It also houses India’s first solar lighthouse. NITI Ayog and Island Development Agency has taken several initiatives to develop these Islands under Act East Policy.

California declared a state of emergency near Yosemite National Park as the Oak Fire burned homes. Over three thousand people were forced to evacuate.
The Oak Fire had burned around 17000 acres and is seen as the largest wildfire of 2022. The wildfire has spread faster due to the prevalent hot, dry weather and drought conditions.

Non Performing Assets (NPA) of Scheduled Commercial Banks in the country have declined in the last four years.
The gross NPA has reached Rs. 7.53 lakh crores in 2022, as compare to over 10.36 lakh crores in 2018. This was stated by the Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karad in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.  Decline in NPA is primarily due to Asset Quality Review undertaken by the Reserve Bank of India.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has joined India-led Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) to limit the damages caused by climate change.
EIB will work in association with national governments, UN agencies, multilateral development banks and private sector to promote the rapid development of infrastructure resilient to climate change and natural disasters. CDRI was launched at the UN Climate Action Summit in 2019 at the initiative of India.

As per the data presented by the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, around 0.34 million hectares (mha) crop area has been damaged due to natural calamities in just the first four months of 2022-23.
The highest damage of 0.24 mha was seen in Assam, which was hit by heavy floods. Over 59,000 livestock have also died during this time. In 2021-22, 0.34 mha crop area was damaged in the whole year.

Every year, World Nature Conservation Day is celebrated on 28 July to create awareness among people about the importance of natural resources.
The theme for this year’s World Conservation Day 2022 is ‘Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet’. IUCN has been monitoring human activities and their impact on the environment.

India’s ReNew Power has signed an agreement with the Egyptian government to invest USD 8 billion to produce green hydrogen in the African country.
The Indian company has planned to build the project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. Earlier, Reliance Industries announced it would commit USD 75 billion to green energy while Adani Group announced it would invest USD 70 billion by 2030 into renewable energy infrastructure, including in green hydrogen.
