National Cooperative Financial and Development Company (NCFDC) is the proposed umbrella body for Urban Cooperative Banks.
The institution is expected to be functional early next year. NCFDC will raise ₹300 crore as capital from member banks and is expected to apply for an NBFC licence. It would facilitate additional financing to MSMEs and lower middle-class borrowers of UCBs.

The World Bank has appointed Indermit Gill as the chief economist and senior vice president for development economics.
Indermit Gill will be the second Indian, after Kaushik Basu, to become the chief economist of the World Bank. It is an international financial institution that grants loan to middle and lower-income countries.

India has designated five new wetlands of International importance, as the Ramsar sites in the country have been increased from 49 to 54.
The new sites include three wetlands (Karikili Bird Sanctuary, Pallikaranai Marsh Reserve Forest and Pichavaram Mangrove) in Tamil Nadu, one (Pala wetland) in Mizoram and one wetland (Sakhya Sagar) in Madhya Pradesh.

The Union Cabinet approved a project for providing 4G mobile services in all uncovered (24,680) villages in remote and difficult areas of the country.
The project will be executed by BSNL using Atmanirbhar Bharat’s 4G technology stack and will be funded through Universal Service Obligation Fund. The total project cost is Rs 26,316 crore.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences after the demise of veteran Assamese writer Atulanada Goswami.
He was a noted Assamese litterateur and winner of Sahitya Akademi Award. The writer made great efforts to popularise Assamese literature in English.

Cryptojacking is a cyber attack in which a computing device is hijacked and its resources are used to illicitly mine cryptocurrency.
This kind of attacks on computer systems have rose by 30% to 66.7 million in the first half of 2022 compared to the first half of last year, according to a recent report. Cryptojacking is hard to detect as victims of these attacks remain unaware that their systems have been hijacked.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras launched the ‘AI4Bharat’ initiative to build open-source language AI for Indian languages.
Recently the institution launched ‘Nilekani Centre at AI4Bharat’, which is being supported through Nilekani Philanthropies. It aims to promote Indian language technology with the intention to create a societal impact.

The Kerala Labour Department is set to launch its own e-taxi service named ‘Kerala Savari’. The online taxi hiring service will serve as an alternative to popular corporate online cab services.
This is considered to be the first such initiative by any state government in the country. The state will link the existing auto-taxi networks in the state to ensure safe travel for the public at affordable rates.

Reliance Industries (RIL) and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) are set to together establish the first-ever India House at Paris Olympics 2024.
RIL announced a long-term partnership with IOA to elevate the performances of Indian athletes, support national sports federations and build credentials of India as a global sporting nation. RIL will support Indian athletes in all major multi-sport events India is also be hosting the 140th IOC Session in June 2023 at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai.

The Gujarat government announced its ‘Semiconductor Policy 2022-27’ and plan to develop a ‘Semicon City’ at Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR).
The policy seeks to attract semiconductor fabrication units, display fabrication units, silicon photonics and semiconductor assembly, testing, marking and packaging facilities to Gujarat.
