Prasar Bharati has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IIT, Kanpur to develop Next Generation Broadcast Solution.
The MoU also seeks to develop a Roadmap for Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting consistent with emerging standards such as 5G Broadcast. Doordarshan has 23 Digital Terrestrial Transmitters while All India Radio (AIR) has 123 MW transmitters, out of which there are 38 digital MW transmitters.

Former Northern Irish first Minister David Trimble won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998 for his key role in ending over thirty years of bloodshed in the region.
David Trimble and John Hume, former leader of the Catholic Social Democratic and Labour Party, jointly received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998. David Trimble recently passed away at the age of 77.

Taiwan’s main annual ‘Han Kuang’ exercises commenced recently and Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen oversaw the largest annual naval and air exercises.
20 naval vessels including frigates and destroyers fired shells to simulate intercepting and attacking an invading force. It was organised off Taiwan’s northeastern coast, amidst rising military pressure from China.

International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Georgetown University and the UN University issued first-ever global policy framework to protect children displaced due to climate change.
‘The Guiding Principles for Children on the Move in the Context of Climate Change’ comprises a set of nine principles to address the vulnerabilities of children who were forced for internal as well cross-border migrations.

Lok Sabha passed the National Anti-Doping Bill, 2021 by voice vote. The bill seeks to provide a statutory framework for the functioning of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and National Dope Testing Laboratory in sports.
It seeks to give effect to the UNESCO International Convention against doping in sports. The legislation prohibits athletes, athlete support personnel, and other persons from engaging in doping in sports.

The Union Cabinet approved Rs 1,64,000-crore revival package for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). The Cabinet also approved the merger of BSNL and BBNL (Bharat Broadband Network Limited).
Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the package will aim to improve the quality of BSNL services, to de-stress the balance sheet, and to expand the company’s fiber reach. The government is approving a sovereign guarantee bond issuance for BSNL to repay bank loans.

Cryptojacking is a cyber attack in which a computing device is hijacked and its resources are used to illicitly mine cryptocurrency.
This kind of attacks on computer systems have rose by 30% to 66.7 million in the first half of 2022 compared to the first half of last year, according to a recent report. Cryptojacking is hard to detect as victims of these attacks remain unaware that their systems have been hijacked.

As per the data presented by the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, around 0.34 million hectares (mha) crop area has been damaged due to natural calamities in just the first four months of 2022-23.
The highest damage of 0.24 mha was seen in Assam, which was hit by heavy floods. Over 59,000 livestock have also died during this time. In 2021-22, 0.34 mha crop area was damaged in the whole year.

Notes:
The 2022 Asia Cup will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) while Sri Lanka still being the official host, as per the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
The tournament is played in the UAE for the second consecutive time. India is the defending champion, having won the tournament in 2018 while it was played in the ODI format.

Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel has recently announced his retirement from Formula One at the end of the year.
The 35 year old driver competes in Formula One for Aston Martin, at present. During his time at Red Bull, he won four consecutive titles from 2010 to 2013.
