India signed an ‘Agreement to curb trans-border crimes’ with Bangladesh. The countries also decided to complete pending developmental work within 150 yards of the international border.
The agreements were signed during the Director-General level border co-ordination conference between India and Bangladesh, held in Dhaka after two years.

‘PM SVANidhi’ scheme was launched on 1 June 2020, to provide financial support to Street vendors. As of july, Rs. 3,661 crores had been provided as micro-credits to more than 30 lakh street vendors.
The Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri addressed the meeting of National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), which was held on the theme of ‘From Encroachers to Self-Employed’.

Andhra Pradesh has selected Padmanabham mandal in Visakhapatnam district to implement the ‘Family Doctor’ project on a pilot basis.
Under the scheme, Medical and health personnel should visit the Aarogyasri beneficiaries a week after being discharged from hospital to enquire about their health condition and get feedback.

China successfully launched its second module, called Wentian, to the Tiangong space station recently.
Wentian was launched aboard a Long March 5B rocket from Hainan, China docking at the Tiangong space station about 13 hours later. The module contains equipment that allows the Chinese astronauts, also known as taikonauts, to perform various scientific experiments.

Sakurajima volcano is located on Japan’s major western island of Kyushu. The Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported about the eruption of the volcano for two consecutive days.
Sakurajima is one of Japan’s most active volcanoes and eruptions are observed on a regular basis.

India celebrates the ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ on July 26 every year, to celebrate the 23-year anniversary of its victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War.
The Kargil War was fought against intruders from Pakistan, who had crossed the Line of Control (LoC) into Indian Territory in 1998. On July 26, 1999, the Pakistan forces were forced to withdraw from the Indian Territory.

‘World Drowning Prevention Day’ is observed annually on 25 July. The United Nations General Assembly recognised this day in April 2021.
According to the UN, around 236,000 people drown annually, which makes drowning a major public health problem all around the world. Drowning is also one of the major causes of death for children and young people aged between 1 to 24 years around the globe.

The Banga Bibhushan was introduced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2011, when she was selected as the Chief Minister for the first time after Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.
It is the highest civilian honour conferred by the West Bengal government others being Banga Samman and Banga Bhushan. This year 16 Banga Bibhushan and 20 Banga Bhushan awardess were selected by the state including Nobel laureate economist Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee. Veteran Nobel laureate Amartya Sen is said to have refused the award as he would not be available in India.

California declared a state of emergency near Yosemite National Park as the Oak Fire burned homes. Over three thousand people were forced to evacuate.
The Oak Fire had burned around 17000 acres and is seen as the largest wildfire of 2022. The wildfire has spread faster due to the prevalent hot, dry weather and drought conditions.

As per the data presented by the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, around 0.34 million hectares (mha) crop area has been damaged due to natural calamities in just the first four months of 2022-23.
The highest damage of 0.24 mha was seen in Assam, which was hit by heavy floods. Over 59,000 livestock have also died during this time. In 2021-22, 0.34 mha crop area was damaged in the whole year.
