Russia and Ukraine have signed a landmark deal with the United Nations and Turkey on resuming grain shipments.
This agreement aimed to ease a global food crisis and help avert famine by providing more wheat, sunflower oil, fertiliser and other products into world markets. The UN World Food Programme says some 47 million people are now in a stage of acute hunger. The deal included a ‘de facto ceasefire’ for the ships and facilities covered.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a USD 96.3 million loan to fund safe drinking water and sanitation project in Himachal Pradesh.
The 770 crore loan has been provided under the Himachal Pradesh Rural Drinking Water Improvement and Livelihood Project. The project will connect 75,800 households to the service, providing uninterrupted water supply to about 370,000 residents across 10 districts.

Gujarat has been approved to host the 36th National Games between September 27 and October 10, in 2022.
The last edition of the National Games was organised in Kerala in 2015. Gir Lion and Statue of Unity with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel are seen in the logo of the Games. IOA (Indian Olympic Association) accepted the proposal of Gujarat for hosting the event after 7 years.

Canara Bank launched its mobile banking super app named ‘Canara ai1’, which eliminates the need of having multiple mobile apps.
The app, which is available in 11 languages, provides solution to all banking and lifestyle needs and various social security schemes. Users not having an account with the Canara Bank can also use UPI and the shopping facility of the Super App.

Kuwaiti Emir has appointed Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as the new Prime Minister of the country.
Sheikh Ahmad Al Nawaf has been the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Kuwait since March 2022.

Tunisia passed a referendum on a new constitution that gives its President almost unlimited powers. Tunisia’s President Kais Saied celebrated the victory of the referendum after favourable exit poll.
Tunisia, or the Republic of Tunisia, is the northern-most country in Africa and its capital is Tunis.

Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India (ECGC) has introduced a new scheme to provide enhanced export credit risk insurance cover up to 90% to support small exporters.
This cover is provided under the Export Credit Insurance for Banks Whole Turnover Packaging Credit and Post Shipment (ECIB- WTPC & PS).  The scheme would benefit small-scale exporters availing of export credit with banks and to diversify their existing portfolio.

Notes:
England’s the Leicester Cricket Ground has been named after Indian cricketer and former Captain, Sunil Gavaskar. He was the first cricketer to score 10,000 runs and also held the record for most number (34) of centuries once.
He was also part of the Indian team that won the 1983 World Cup. There is another ground named after Sunil Gavaskar in the Kentucky area of the United States of America (USA)

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras launched the ‘AI4Bharat’ initiative to build open-source language AI for Indian languages.
Recently the institution launched ‘Nilekani Centre at AI4Bharat’, which is being supported through Nilekani Philanthropies. It aims to promote Indian language technology with the intention to create a societal impact.

Notes:
The Gujarat government announced its ‘Semiconductor Policy 2022-27’ and plan to develop a ‘Semicon City’ at Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR).
The policy seeks to attract semiconductor fabrication units, display fabrication units, silicon photonics and semiconductor assembly, testing, marking and packaging facilities to Gujarat.
