Scientists have discovered the world’s largest water-lily belonging to the genus Victoria at Kew Gardens in south-west London.
The species has been named Victoria boliviana, in honour of Bolivian partners in the research. The leaves of the newly discovered waterlily species grow up to three metres. The current record for the largest plant of the species is held by La Rinconada Gardens in Bolivia, with leaves of 3.2 metres.

Legendary music director Ilaiyaraaja was recently nominated to Rajya Sabha, along with veteran athlete PT Usha, film screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad and spiritual leader Veerendra Heggade.
The nominations are done by the President on the advice of the Union Cabinet. While PT Usha is from Kerala, Ilaiyaraaja is from Tamil Nadu, Veerendra Heggade is from Karnataka and Vijayendra Prasad is from Andhra Pradesh.

Google has expanded its Google News Initiative India Training Network to cover five new Indian languages. This Google initiative helps teach journalists and newsrooms learn digital skills needed to tackle misinformation online. It will now be available in Punjabi, Assamese, Odia, Gujarati, and Malayalam.
The Google News Initiative India Training Network was launched four years ago in partnership with DataLeads. Google is set to launch a Fact-Check Academy in partnership with DataLeads.

Mission Vatsalya is an umbrella scheme for child protection services in the country implemented by the Women and Child Development (WCD) Ministry.
The Ministry released the guidelines for the scheme. Funds to states will be approved through the Mission Vatsalya Project Approval Board (PAB), which will be chaired by the WCD Secretary, who will approve annual plans and financial proposals received from states and UTs for release of grants.

Mangarh Hillock, situated in Rajasthan near the Gujarat Border, is set to be declared monument of national importance.
It is a site of a tribal uprising where a massacre of over 1500 Bhil tribal freedom fighters took place in 1913. Tribals gathered at the site were holding a meeting in protest, led by a leader from the community Govind Guru. The place is also known as the Adivasi Jallianwala.

Charles Leclerc clinched the Austrian Grand Prix for Ferrari while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen settled for second position.
Mercedes’ seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was at third place. Leclerc’s Spanish team mate Carlos Sainz, was a first time winner at Silverstone earlier.

India has recently joined the Interpol’s international child sexual exploitation (ICSE) database. This association will allow it to draw links between victims, abusers and crime scene using audio-visual data.
CBI, which is India’s nodal agency for Interpol matters, joined the database making India the 68th country to collaborate with it.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai has recently become the first railway station in India to be equipped with augmented reality screens.
The technology will allow passengers at the station to get real-time digitised time table with a dedicated scrolling screen and railway information for an engaging experience. The Central Railway also launched pod hotel at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.

Indonesia’s shuttler Chico Aura clinched the Malaysia Masters badminton title after defeating Hong Kong star Angus Ng Ka-long.
The 24-year-old Indonesian, who is ranked 45th in the world, triumphed over 28-year-old Ng in straight sets.

The Government of lndia adopted the Lion Capital as the National Emblem on 26 January 1950. It is an adaptation of the Lion Capital of Ashoka, an ancient sculpture dating back to the Mauryan Empire.
The national emblem unveiled atop the new parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sparked a controversy for deviation from the original emblem. The new national emblem is made of bronze, weighing 9,500 kg and with the height of 6.5 metre.
