A UK-based group of climate activists named ‘Just Stop Oil’, has been in the news recently, for their unique ways of drawing attention to their cause.
The Climate activists have recently glued their hands to the frame of a copy of Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper at the Royal Academy in protest against climate inaction and the continued production of planet-heating fossil fuels.

Notes:
The Padma Multipurpose Bridge, the longest bridge in Bangladesh, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in June 2022.
The 6.15-km-long Padma Multipurpose Bridge, constructed at a cost of nearly USD 3.87 billion is one of the largest projects Bangladesh has ever undertaken. After World Bank withdrew from funding the project, Bangladesh opted for self-funding.

Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the ‘Statue of Peace’ of Swamy Ramanujacharya at Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ramanujacharya is regarded as a Vedic philosopher and social reformer, who travelled across India, advocating equality and social justice. Ramanujacharya is known for revived the Bhakti movement and his preachings inspired other Bhakti schools of thought.

The 10^th edition of ‘World Peace Forum’ was recently organized by Tsinghua University, in Beijing, China.
India’s Ambassador to China Pradeep Kumar Rawat participated in the forum. He participated in the ‘BRICS Cooperation: Opportunities and Challenges’.

Indian Navy’s stealth frigate INS Tarkash, visited Djibouti and conducted a Maritime Partnership Exercise with Sudan Navy ships Almazz and Nimer in the Red Sea near the Sudan Naval Base.
This is a part of its long range overseas deployment. It is also on a deployment to Rio de Janerio, Brazil.

Union Bank of India has announced the launch of a Metaverse Virtual Lounge & Open Banking Sandbox environment. The initiative has been undertaken with partnership with Tech Mahindra.
The bank’s Metaverse Virtual Lounge, Uni-verse, will host product information and videos in the initial phase.

Charles Leclerc clinched the Austrian Grand Prix for Ferrari while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen settled for second position.
Mercedes’ seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was at third place. Leclerc’s Spanish team mate Carlos Sainz, was a first time winner at Silverstone earlier.

Talcher Coalfields of Mahanadi Coalfield is one of the largest fields with about 52 Billion Tonne of coal resource. Talcher coalfield has produced more than 95 Million Tonne (MT) coal during FY22.
To ensure efficient coal evacuation, construction of rail line started in a phased manner in Talcher Coalfields.  The Ministry of Coal has identified construction of MCRL Phase I & II project as high Impact project under PM Gatishakti.

Veteran archaeologist and former director general of Bangladesh National Museum Professor Dr Enamul Haque passed away recently.
In recognition of his work, Dr Enamul was awarded the Ekushey Padak award in 2017 and the Swadhinata Padak award in 2020. The Indian Government awarded him the Padmashri in 2020 for his contribution to archaeology.

The Global Gender Gap Index for 2022 was recently released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Iceland (90.8%) led the global ranking in the first place while India is ranked at 135 out of 146 countries. Last year, India was ranked 140 out of 156 countries. As per the report, it will take another 132 years to close the global gender gap.
