The Fields Medal is awarded by the International Mathematical Union (IMU), an international non-governmental and non-profit scientific organisation to promote international cooperation in mathematics.

Uganda has recently announced the discovery of 31 million metric tonnes of gold deposits in the country.
To boost the country’s economy, the Ugandan Government has licensed Wagagai Gold Mining Company, a Chinese firm to start producing gold products.

The Assam Cabinet approved the identification of five Assamese Muslim sub-groups namely Goriyas, Moriyas, Julhas, Deshis, and Syeds as indigenous Assamese Muslim communities.
Seven committees constituted by the state government suggested that these groups should be accorded ‘indigenous community’ status. It suggested that the Assam government could undertake a census to identify the Assamese Muslims.

Delhi will host its first ever government-backed shopping festival from January 28 to February 26 2023.
As per the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the festival will have 200 concerts for entertainment, food walks. It was one of the projects proposed in the Rozgaar Budget 2022-23 presented by deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia.

Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani assumed additional charge of Ministry of Minority Affairs. She took over from Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi who resigned from the Union Council of Ministers.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who is currently in charge of the Civil Aviation Ministry assumed the additional charge of the Steel Ministry.

Salesforce announced USD 2 million in grant to over 22 non-profits across India for education and workforce development in the country.
Using the grants, students will have access to Hybrid learning spaces, Social Emotional Learning, STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and early education.

Sikkim and West Bengal Government recently signed a new reciprocal transport agreement.
As per the agreement, ‘All-Bengal’ permits for Sikkim vehicles and ‘All-Sikkim’ permits for Bengal vehicles will be issued to facilitate vehicular movement across both the states. Previously the vehicles had limited permits for movement across the other states.

Andhra Pradesh Markfed has exported tobacco to the United States, for the first time in the country, for a Government agency.
The Andhra Pradesh Markfed has opened a new opportunity for farmers. The agency procured about 1.3 million kg of tobacco in 2020, following directions by the State Government.

23-year-old player Elena Rybakina became the first player from Kazakhstan to win a grand slam title. She also became the youngest Wimbledon champion since 2011.
Novak Djokovic won his fourth straight Wimbledon men’s singles title, and his 21st grand slam title overall. He is now one grand slam title behind the all-time record set by Rafael Nadal of 22.
