India added 540 species to its faunal database in 2021 taking the total number of animal species to 1,03,258. A new mammal species Crocidura narcondamica, a white-toothed shrew, was found in the Andaman and Nicobar group of islands.

Notes:
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched 75 defence products powered by artificial intelligence at the first-ever ‘AI in Defence’ symposium and exhibition in New Delhi.
These products are in the fields of robotics systems, cyber security, human behaviour analysis, intelligent monitoring system, supply chain management, voice analysis and C4ISR (command, control, communication, computer and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) among others.

Information and Broadcasting Ministry unveiled new logo of country’s Public Service Broadcaster, Prasar Bharati.
Prasar Bharati is a statutory autonomous body set up by an act of Parliament and comprises Doordarshan and All India Radio. The new logo is also a blend of both the organisations. The map of India signifies the service of trust and the dark moderate blue colour represents both sky and sea.

The government introduced certification of authenticity for jute products with the launch of “Jute Mark India” logo. It is an initiative to promote Indian jute products.
JMI was implemented under an umbrella scheme for development and promotion of the jute sector between FY 2022 and FY 2026 with a total financial outlay of Rs 485.58 crore. Each Jute Mark label will contain a unique QR code with information on producer. National Jute Board is the nodal agency of the Union textiles ministry, responsible for the promotion of jute and jute products.

The Japanese government has decided to award former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe with the country’s highest order posthumously.
Abe, the longest-serving PM of Japan will be the fourth former prime minister to receive the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum. The leader was recently shot dead during his campaign speech.

India achieved a world record for construction of longest Double Decker Viaduct in Nagpur with 3.14 kilo meters.
The Maharashtra Metro and NHAI also constructed the highest number of metro stations on the Double Decker Viaduct, which has been recognized by Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records.

The Meghalaya has launched a roadmap to invest in early childhood education programmes, to revamp elementary education in Meghalaya.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced that the government has earmarked Rs 300 crore from externally aided projects to make investment in early childhood education programmes.

The Dwarka Expressway, which is being developed as the first elevated urban expressway in India, will be operational in 2023.
This was announced by Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. It will relieve traffic congestion on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway as well as help in reducing air pollution in the Delhi-NCR.

An Asian elephant known by different names- Longcross, Bogeshwara, and Mr Kabini, died in Gundre in the Nagarhole-Bandipur forest region in Karnataka.
The elephant with long tusks had roamed the Kabini backwaters for around 50-60 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the centenary memorial pillar of Bihar Assembly recently, to mark the conclusion of the one-year centennial celebration of the state legislature building.
The foundation stone for the centenary pillar was laid by President Ram Nath Kovind on October 21 last year. The PM will also officially christened the garden located near the pillar as ‘Shatabdi Smriti Udyan’.
