The ‘Natural Farming Conclave’ was recently held at Surat in Gujarat. It was addressed by the Indian Prime Minister through video conferencing.
The farmers from different villages along with other agriculture bodies have joined this Natural Farming Conclave. The conclave will also discuss how to leverage natural farming to boost agriculture and farmer welfare.

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) researchers have developed an Artificial Intelligence-based tool- ‘PIVOT’, which can predict cancer-causing genes in an individual.
This tool will help in devising personalized cancer treatment strategies. It is based on a machine learning model that classifies genes as tumour suppressor genes, oncogenes or neutral genes.

Notes:
The Telangana state government has allotted about Rs 3700 crore credit flow to women self-help groups (SHGs) through ‘Stree Nidhi’.
This is about 600 crore rupees more than the allocation of the last year. According to an official release, the government has spent about 14 thousand 750 crore rupees during the past 8 years to the SHGs for setting up businesses.

Union Health Ministry signed MoU with the Union Panchayati Raj Ministry, with the aim to eliminate Tuberculosis in India.
The MoU will forge inter-Ministerial collaboration and strategic partnerships with the aim to achieving the target of eliminating TB in India by 2025. It aims to create mass awareness in rural areas to end stigma and discrimination associated with TB.

The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2022 report was issued by U.N. agencies: FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP and WHO.
The number of undernourished people in India has declined in the last 15 years to 224.3 million in 2019-2021. The report also noted that there are more obese adults and anaemic women in India, the world’s second most populous country.

Talcher Coalfields of Mahanadi Coalfield is one of the largest fields with about 52 Billion Tonne of coal resource. Talcher coalfield has produced more than 95 Million Tonne (MT) coal during FY22.
To ensure efficient coal evacuation, construction of rail line started in a phased manner in Talcher Coalfields.  The Ministry of Coal has identified construction of MCRL Phase I & II project as high Impact project under PM Gatishakti.

After the rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde took oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, the Cabinet reversed the previous government’s decision to relocate a proposed Mumbai Metro shed project from Aarey Colony.
Several activists from Mumbai have been fighting to preserve the green space of Mumbai. Aarey Forest is an urban forest which is within the eco sensitive zone of Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

 

Notes:
The LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ), world’s biggest dark-matter detector, is located in the United States. Scientists working with the detector have recently released their first results.
LZ’s central tank contains 7 metric tons of liquid xenon. The detector aims to find the ‘Weakly interacting massive particles’ or WIMPs. There are similar detectors in Italy and China.

Notes:
British composer, Monty Norman, who wrote the theme tune for the James Bond films, has passed away at the age of 94.
Norman was hired by producer Albert Broccoli to compose a theme for the first James Bond film, “Dr. No,” released in 1962. The tune that Monty Norman composed has been used in all 25 Bond thrillers.

Notes:
The ancient Buddhist city, Mes Aynak was a vast city organised around the extraction and trade of copper. It was carved out of peaks near Kabul in Afghanistan.
It was believed to be between 1,000 and 2,000 years old. In 2007 the Chinese mining giant Metallurgical Group Corporation (MCC) signed a USD 3 billion contract to mine ore over 30 years. The project is once again a priority for Talibans and China.
