‘Kharchi’ is a week-long traditional festival, in which prayer to 14 Gods and Goddess is offered with religious fervour.
The festival began in presence of thousands of devotees from across the country at Khayerpur, Tripura. It started with the bathing procession of the deities at River Haora.

Nepal’s Parliament passed the country’s first Citizenship Amendment Bill, which was under discussion for more than two years.
The bill has been tabled in parliament to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act 2006 and make provisions for providing citizenship as directed by the Constitution.

US aviation company Lockheed Martin has delivered a compact directed energy weapon to the Air Force Research Laboratory of the US Air Force (USAF).
The energy weapon is known as Laser Advancements of Next-Generation Compact Environments (LANCE). The development is significant due to the efforts to reduce the size of the laser energy weapon and it is now ready to be tested after being mounted on an aircraft.

The International Rice Research Institute is an international agricultural research and training organization with its headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna in the Philippines. It was founded in 1960.
India’s Department of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare (DA&FW) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) for Phase -2 activities of IRRI South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC).

India’s first e-waste Eco-park is set to be developed in Holambi Kalan in Delhi. Every year the capital city produces over two lakh tonnes of e-waste, which is about 9.5 percent of the total amount produced in India.
Delhi is now the fifth-largest producer of e-waste in India, behind Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. However, only 5 per cent of the generated e-waste is properly recycled.

Veteran social worker and Padma Shri awardee Avdhash Kaushal passed away recently after a prolonged illness at the age of 84.
Kaushal founded and headed the non-governmental organisation (NGO) called ‘Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RLEK)’, for development work amongst tribal hill communities in the areas of Jaunsar-Bawar, Dehradun. He was known for abolition of bonded labour system and securing the rights of marginalised communities in the region.

The rate of inflation based on All-India Wholesale Price Index (WPI) number is 15.18% for the month of June, 2022 (over June, 2021).
This is lower than the WPI number of 15.88% in May 2022. The high rate of inflation this month is primarily due to rise in prices of mineral oils, food articles, crude petroleum & natural gas, basic metals, chemicals & chemical products, food products etc.

The National Statistical Office report said that from 2011-2019, the proportion of unmarried persons within the age bracket of 15-29 years has increased from 17.2 per cent to 23 per cent.
Among males the percentage of unmarried population raised from 20.8 per cent in 2011 to 26.1 per cent in 2019 while in female, increased from 13.5 per cent in 2011 to 19.9 per cent in 2019.

Brijendra Kumar Syngal, who is also referred to as father of Internet in India, passed away recently at the age of 82.
He was the former chairman of Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited. Under his leadership, the company rolled out India’s internet service and launched its biggest global depository receipt issue. He was earlier associated with satellite communications company Inmarsat.

Under the central government’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, the Indian tricolour flag will be hoisted atop more than 20 crore houses across the country for three days in August 2022.
The campaign is to be carried out under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, with chief ministers of states and lieutenant governors, and administrators of Union Territories. The tricolor will be flown atop the houses through public participation while government and private establishments will also be involved.
