Japan’s former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe passed away he was shot at a political campaign event in the city of Nara.
Abe’s speech was part of a campaign for his former party, the Liberal Democratic Party, as upper house elections in Japan are due to take place in this week.

The Enforcement Directorate’s (ED’s) money-laundering probe into mobile phone maker Vivo India has revealed that the company remitted about Rs 62,476 crore of its turn-over to China between 2017 and 2021, to avoid paying taxes in India.
According to an official, Vivo India’s books showed losses in most of its associate firms while transferring money to China.

Hydrocarbon Exploration and Licensing Policy (HELP), a new policy for finding and producing oil and gas, was launched by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in the year 2016.
Seven bid rounds of the Open Acreage Licensing Programme (OALP) have been concluded so far and 134 exploration and production blocks were awarded. In the recent 7th bid round, ONGC, OIL and GAIL got most of the eight blocks offered for exploration and production of oil and gas.

The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2022 report was issued by U.N. agencies: FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP and WHO.
The number of undernourished people in India has declined in the last 15 years to 224.3 million in 2019-2021. The report also noted that there are more obese adults and anaemic women in India, the world’s second most populous country.

Talcher Coalfields of Mahanadi Coalfield is one of the largest fields with about 52 Billion Tonne of coal resource. Talcher coalfield has produced more than 95 Million Tonne (MT) coal during FY22.
To ensure efficient coal evacuation, construction of rail line started in a phased manner in Talcher Coalfields.  The Ministry of Coal has identified construction of MCRL Phase I & II project as high Impact project under PM Gatishakti.

National Statistical Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme implementation (MoSPI), releases the the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) growth data.
The IIP growth rose to 19.6% in May as against 7.1% in April. The manufacturing sector’s output grew 20.6% in May this year, while the mining output climbed 10.9%, and power generation increased 23.5%.

The Global Gender Gap Index for 2022 was recently released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Iceland (90.8%) led the global ranking in the first place while India is ranked at 135 out of 146 countries. Last year, India was ranked 140 out of 156 countries. As per the report, it will take another 132 years to close the global gender gap.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the First I2U2 Leaders’ Virtual Summit along with his Israeli counterpart Yair Lapid, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and US President Joe Biden.

Veteran Congress leader K Kamaraj was remembered throughout the country on his birth anniversary.
He was a former Chief Minister of erstwhile Madras State, now Tamil Nadu. He also served as the President of the Indian National Congress. He was responsible for the elevation of Lal Bahadur Shastri to the position of Prime Minister of India after Nehru’s death and Indira Gandhi after Shastri’s death.

The National Health Authority (NHA) has commenced its first hackathon under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission Hackathon Series at the Smart City Operations Centre, Pune in a hybrid format.
The hackathon is being organised under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) in association with Pune Municipal Corporation and Pune Smart City Development Corporation. The hackathon is focussed at mobilising the health start-ups in India to develop innovative solutions.
