Praveen Kumar Wins High Jump Gold at Asian Para Games 2026
Indian para-athlete Praveen Kumar won gold in the men’s high jump T44/64 event at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on 21 October 2026. He cleared 2.05 metres to set a new Games record. India’s Banti won silver with a personal-best jump of 1.92 metres, while Uzbekistan’s Temurbek Giyazov took bronze with 1.86 metres.
Medal Results and Games Record
Kumar’s opening clearance of 2.00 metres surpassed the previous Asian Para Games record of 1.95 metres. Giyazov had set that mark at the 2018 Games. Kumar later cleared 2.05 metres, establishing the new record in the event.
Banti’s 1.92-metre jump secured India’s first and second positions in the event. Giyazov’s 1.86-metre clearance placed him third. A personal best is an athlete’s highest performance recorded up to that competition.
Para-Athletics Classification
Para-athletics assigns sport classes according to the type and extent of an athlete’s impairment. The letter “T” denotes track and jumping events, while “F” denotes throwing events.
T44 and T64 are classes associated with lower-limb impairments. T64 includes athletes with lower-limb amputation who compete using a prosthesis. Athletes from different classes may compete together in a combined event category, as in the T44/64 high jump.
Asian Para Games and Kumar’s Paralympic Results
The Asian Para Games is a multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities from across Asia. The first edition was held in Guangzhou, China, in 2010, and the event is held every four years under the Asian Paralympic Committee.
Kumar previously won silver in high jump at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics and gold at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. His Asian Para Games 2026 result added a Games record to those Paralympic medals.
