NTPC ranked top independent power producer
The S&P Global commodity insights recently released the ranking of the top 250 independent energy producers in the world. The energy producers were ranked based on four criteria such as return on investment, revenue generation, total assets, and profits gained. NTPC topped the ranking.
Role of NTPC in India’s Energy Sector
- Currently, NTPC produces 24% of India’s electricity. By 2050, the corporation will contribute 50% of the total power production in the country.
- The National Thermal Power Corporation offers diversified energy production such as hydroelectric power, solar energy, wind power, thermal power, coal-based thermal power, gas, etc.
- The NTPC is now marching to achieve its set target of 50% of energy generation using non-fossil sources. This is to be achieved by 2032. And it is to generate 130 GW of renewable energy
- NTPC has also set a target of producing 60GW of renewable energy by 2032.
- NTPC is one of the pioneer partners of NITI Aayog in its Net Energy Zero Effort
