Munitions India, Drogo Aerospace Sign MoU for UAV Systems

Drogo Aerospace Pvt Ltd and Munitions India Limited (MIL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Pune on 4 September 2026 for cooperation in indigenous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and loitering munition systems. The agreement covers design, development, integration, safety evaluation, field trials, range trials, and quality certification of munition-linked aerial platforms.

Memorandum of Understanding and Defence Collaboration

An MoU is a formal agreement between two entities that sets out areas of cooperation without creating a full commercial contract. In this case, the MoU links a private aerospace firm and a Government of India-owned defence manufacturer for work on UAV platforms and loitering munitions.

Yashwanth Bonthu, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Drogo Aerospace, and Kumar Vaibhav Gaur, Executive Director of MIL, signed the agreement in Pune. Drogo Aerospace is based in Hyderabad and is engaged in the design, development, and manufacturing of UAV platforms and empty-payload hardware.

Munitions India Limited and Its Role

Munitions India Limited was established in 2021 in Pune after the restructuring of the Ordnance Factory Board. It manufactures ammunition, explosives, and rocket systems for the Indian Armed Forces and foreign customers.

Under the MoU, MIL will contribute expertise in munitions design, explosive systems, payload filling, fuzing, and modular munition development. These functions are central to the integration of a UAV with a munition payload.

Loitering Munition and UAV Concepts

A loitering munition is a weapon system that can remain airborne for a period before striking a target. A UAV is an aircraft without an onboard human pilot and can be used for surveillance, reconnaissance, or strike roles.

The collaboration includes Drogo Aerospace’s indigenous Delta Wing Kamikaze UAV, which underwent testing in Hyderabad. The platform is described as a one-way system under development for long-range defence applications.
