Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, a veteran Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader, was elected as the 23rd President of Bangladesh on 20 August 2026 in a parliamentary vote held in Dhaka. He won 255 votes against Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed of the Liberal Democratic Party, who secured 88 votes.
