India, Japan to Play First Men’s T20I

India and Japan will play their first men’s T20 International on 22 September 2026 at the Sano International Cricket Ground in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. The match has been named the Suzuki Cup and will begin joint celebrations for 75 years of India-Japan diplomatic relations, which will be formally completed in 2027.

T20 International Format

A T20 International, or T20I, is a recognised international cricket match played between two national teams in the Twenty20 format. Each side bats for a maximum of 20 overs, and the format is governed by the International Cricket Council.

India-Japan Diplomatic Relations

India and Japan established diplomatic relations in 1952. The year 2027 will mark 75 years of formal diplomatic ties between the two countries, and the 22 September 2026 fixture will open the related celebrations.
