L&T Unveils First Silicon Carbide Chip Platform
L&T Semiconductor Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, unveiled its first silicon carbide (SiC) product platform on 18 September 2026 at SEMICON India 2026. The platform includes a 1200V SiC MOSFET for power conversion applications, and the company also introduced 40 new products at the event.
Silicon Carbide in Power Electronics
Silicon carbide is a wide-bandgap semiconductor material used in high-voltage and high-temperature power devices. SiC MOSFETs are used in EV fast chargers, microgrids, solid-state transformers, and traction inverters because they support efficient power conversion.
LTSCT Product and Business Profile
LTSCT has moved from design to commercial production and has secured 15 to 20 customers in its first 18 months of operation. The company has set a target of annual revenue of US$500 million by financial year 2031, with 70% to 80% of revenue expected from export markets.
Partnerships and Acquisitions
On 27 October 2025, LTSCT partnered with Taiwan-based Hon Young Semiconductor Co. Ltd., a Foxconn Technology Group unit, to develop and manufacture high-voltage silicon carbide and silicon wafers in the 650V to 3,300V range. LTSCT acquired SiliConch Systems, a Bengaluru-based semiconductor IP company, in July 2024, and the company was amalgamated into LTSCT on 24 March 2026.
