Lt Gen Akhilesh Kumar Takes Charge as General Officer Commanding of 1 Corps
Lieutenant General Akhilesh Kumar assumed charge as the General Officer Commanding of the Indian Army’s 1 Corps on 1 October 2026. The corps is also known as Strike One Corps and is headquartered at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. He succeeded Lieutenant General V Hariharan in this appointment.

Lt Gen Akhilesh Kumar served as the Additional Director General, Discipline & Vigilance, in the Adjutant General’s Branch before taking command of 1 Corps. He studied at Sainik School, Tilaiya, and the National Defence Academy. He was commissioned into the 4th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles in 1992.
