Lam Research to Set Up Silicon Component Facility in India

Lam Research announced on 16 September 2026 an investment of about ₹10,000 crore, or around US$1.04 billion, in India over several years. The plan covers the company’s first silicon component manufacturing facility in India and an expansion of its advanced research and development operations in Bengaluru.

Lam Research is a United States-based supplier of wafer fabrication equipment used in semiconductor manufacturing. The company’s planned facility in India will support a vertically integrated process that includes silicon ingot production and processing for advanced semiconductor technologies and leading-edge nodes.

India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem

India Semiconductor Mission is the central government’s programme for semiconductor and display manufacturing, design, and ecosystem development. Bengaluru hosts the India Center for Engineering of Lam Research, which is part of the company’s existing engineering presence in India.

Training, R&D, and Supply Chain Linkages

Lam Research is collaborating with the Indian Institute of Science and the India Semiconductor Mission to train up to 60,000 students in semiconductor manufacturing during 2023-2033 through its virtual training platform, Semiverse Solutions. The investment also covers specialised engineering work and partnerships with Indian suppliers for materials, components, gases, chemicals, and manufacturing services.
