PM Modi Visits Slovakia for First State Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a state visit to Slovakia from 14 June to 16 June 2026. It was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since the country became independent in 1993. The visit took place in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, during the second leg of a three-nation European tour.

India-Slovakia Bilateral Relations

India and Slovakia established diplomatic relations after Slovakia became an independent state in 1993. The two countries have held regular high-level exchanges, including the State Visit of President Droupadi Murmu to Slovakia in April 2025 and the visit of Slovak President Peter Pellegrini to India for the AI Impact Summit in February 2026.

Areas of Cooperation

India-Slovakia discussions covered trade, investment, innovation, automobile manufacturing, railway development, and defence cooperation. Slovakia has supplied military hardware to India for several years, and India has also begun supplying military hardware to Slovakia.

Trade and Workforce Links

Bilateral trade between India and Slovakia crossed 1 billion US dollars for the first time in 2024 and rose to 1.8 billion US dollars in 2025. Around 11,000 Indian workers were employed in Slovak industries as of June 2026, and Slovakia has sought more than 100,000 additional workers from India.
