India Inaugurates Green Forge Complex at BRIC-NABI Mohali

India inaugurated its first-of-its-kind Green Forge Complex at the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council-National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (BRIC-NABI) in Mohali, Punjab, on 31 August 2026. The facility is linked to genome and trait engineering, controlled environmental testing, and the BioE3 policy for biotechnology-led biomanufacturing.

Green Forge Complex

The Green Forge Complex is a controlled research facility for testing genetically modified (GM) crops under simulated environmental conditions. It uses chambers that vary light, humidity, and temperature to assess crop performance before field cultivation.

Genome and Trait Engineering

Genome engineering refers to the deliberate modification of genetic material in an organism. Trait engineering is the development of specific plant characteristics such as yield, stress tolerance, or disease resistance through biotechnology tools.

BioE3 Policy and Biomanufacturing

BioE3 stands for Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment. The policy framework includes 22 manufacturing hubs and eight specialised biofoundry facilities for startups, small and medium enterprises, and agricultural researchers.
