Airbus Awards Mahindra Contract for A320neo Fuselage Skins

Airbus awarded Mahindra Aerostructures Pvt. Ltd. (MASPL), a Mahindra Group company, a multi-year contract to manufacture and supply fuselage skins for the A320neo and A321XLR passenger aircraft. The work will be carried out at Mahindra’s Bengaluru facility, and the finished components will be shipped to Airbus Aerostructures’ assembly plant in Augsburg, Germany.

Fuselage Skins in Aircraft Manufacturing

Fuselage skins are the outer structural panels that form the body of an aircraft. In commercial aircraft, these panels are produced with high dimensional accuracy and are fitted to fuselage sections that include the rear fuselage and tail section.

Scope of the Contract

The agreement covers 11 fuselage skins in total. It includes eight skins for Section 18, which is the rear fuselage, and three skins for Section 19, which is the tail section. The first deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028.

Manufacturing Processes at Bengaluru Facility

Mahindra Aerostructures plans to develop advanced manufacturing capabilities at its Bengaluru facility for this contract. The planned processes include chemical milling, surface treatment, and stretch-forming, which are used in aerospace component production.

The Airbus-Mahindra partnership already includes earlier agreements for the manufacture of fuselages for Airbus H125 and H130 helicopters. The new contract adds fixed-wing aircraft structural work to the existing cooperation.
