Karnataka Announces State-Level Best Teacher Awards

The Department of School Education and Literacy of Karnataka announced the state-level best teacher awards for the 2026–27 academic year on 4 September 2026. The awards include school teachers, lecturers and pre-university college principals, and the presentation is scheduled for Teachers’ Day at the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.

Teacher Awards in Karnataka

Karnataka gives state-level teacher awards to recognise educators in school and higher education institutions. The award list for 2026–27 was reported with two figures in circulation, with one count placing the total at 41 and another placing the school-level list at 31, including 20 primary teachers and 11 high school teachers.

Each selected teacher will receive a cash prize of ₹25,000 and a certificate of appreciation. The award process also includes ₹7,75,000 in school-level funding from the State Teachers’ Welfare Fund and the Students’ Welfare Fund.

Savitribai Phule and Women Teachers

Women teachers selected for the awards will receive the honour under the name of Savitribai Phule. Savitribai Phule was a 19th-century social reformer and is widely recognised as India’s first female teacher.

Her work is associated with women’s education in Maharashtra during the 1800s. Her name is used in several educational and social welfare honours in India.

Best School Awards and Award Venues

Along with the teacher awards, Karnataka announced the Malenada Gandhi Sri H.G. Govinde Gowda Best School Awards for 2026. The Government Model Higher Primary School, also called MLA School, in Haliyal of Sirsi district, and the Government High School in Karikatti of Belagavi district were named for the school awards.

Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru is the seat of the Karnataka Legislature and one of the best-known government buildings in the state. Teachers’ Day in India is observed on 5 September and is linked to the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
