HAL Koraput Delivers 2,000th Aero-Engine

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Koraput Division in Odisha, has delivered its 2,000th aero-engine. The milestone is linked to nearly six decades of engine manufacturing and overhaul work at the Koraput facility, which was established in 1964.

HAL Koraput and Aero-Engine Manufacturing

HAL Koraput has produced and overhauled engines for aircraft such as the MiG-21FL, MiG-21bis, MiG-27 and MiG-29. The division is one of India’s key public sector aerospace units for military propulsion systems.

Shakti Engine Production Line

A second production line for Shakti engines is being inaugurated at Koraput with an investment of ₹218 crore. The Shakti engine powers the Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter and the HAL Prachand Light Combat Helicopter, both of which use indigenous powerplants.

AL-31FP Engine Programme

In 2024, the Defence Ministry signed a ₹26,000-crore contract with HAL for 240 AL-31FP engines for the Su-30MKI. The engines are to be manufactured at Koraput, and the programme plans to raise indigenous content to 63% by its end.
