Government Launches Agri Welfare Portal for Farmers
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the upgraded Agri Welfare Portal in New Delhi on 19 October 2026. The mobile-accessible platform provides farmers with information on government schemes, financial assistance and agriculture, alongside online eligibility checks and application facilities.
Digital delivery of agricultural services
The portal functions as a single-window gateway to government initiatives and agricultural information. It is intended to reduce the need for farmers to visit multiple government offices or consult separate websites to find scheme details or submit applications. Its information services include updates on weather, farming practices, seeds, fertilisers and market prices. The portal is designed for farmers across the country, including small and marginal farmers. Its usability goals include simple navigation and regularly updated, accurate information. The platform also connects Farmer Producer Organisations, Primary Agricultural Credit Societies, agricultural scientists, researchers and startups within a shared digital ecosystem.
Agricultural schemes on the platform
The portal provides access to information on PM-KISAN, AgriStack and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. PM-KISAN is a Central Sector Scheme that provides eligible farmer families with income support through direct benefit transfer. The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is a crop insurance scheme for farmers. AgriStack is a digital public infrastructure initiative for agriculture. Its components include databases relating to farmers, farm plots and crop sown information. Online eligibility checks and application options on the portal allow users to access scheme-related services digitally.
Agricultural extension and cooperative institutions
Krishi Vigyan Kendras are agricultural science centres that provide technology assessment, demonstrations and training to farmers. A nationwide training campaign through these centres will help farmers use the portal and other digital tools. Primary Agricultural Credit Societies are village-level cooperative credit institutions that provide short-term credit and related services to members.
