Recently, the deadly tropical cyclone Chapala has made landfall on the desert nation of Yemen, causing widespread floods in coastal regions. The cyclone made landfall in the south eastern provinces of Hadramawt and Shabwa along the Gulf of Aden coast of Yemen in Arabian Sea bringing winds of speed more than 100 kms per hour. Cyclone Chapala was formed after a low pressure was formed over the Arabian Sea with deep depression intensity. The low pressure was formed due to record warm water believed to be associated with an El Niño event and low vertical wind shear.

Recently, the Anthropological Survey of India (AnSI) has come up with the first authentic demographic database of the Shompen tribe. It is one of the least known particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs) in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The study found that the group is heterogeneous with even differences in their dialect, contrary to the earlier belief that Shompens are a homogeneous tribe.

In August 2014, the Government of India has constituted a high-level committee under the Chairmanship of Dr. T. K. Viswanathan (former Law Secretary) to look into various issues related to bankruptcy in India. On November 4th, the Bankruptcy Law Reform Committee (BLRC) has submitted its report to the Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley. The report has two parts. First part is titled as ‘Rationale and Design’ and second part is titled as ‘Draft Insolvency and Bankruptcy Bill’. Finance Ministry has placed the report, along with a brief summary of the recommendations on the website at www.finmin.nic.in for stakeholder consultation.

Thus, he was the longest-serving Speaker of any Legislative Assembly in the country.
