Dhruva Space, Safran Space sign satellite supply deal
Dhruva Space, an India-based space technology company, and Safran Space, a French aerospace firm, signed multiple contracts at the inaugural International Space Summit in Paris on 10 September 2026. The contracts were valued at more than €5 million and covered satellite communication systems, inertial navigation units, optical payloads, and ground stations.
Satellite Constellation and Mission Profile
The contracts are linked to India’s Space-Based Surveillance Phase-III, or SBS-III, constellation. The SBS-III project is planned to place 52 satellites in orbit between 2027 and 2030 for border monitoring and surveillance of the Indian Ocean Region.
The Indian Space Research Organisation is assigned 21 satellites in the SBS-III network. Private players are assigned 31 satellites, including 15 for Antaris and 8 each for Pixxel and Dhruva Space.
Commercial Space-Tech and Industrial Roles
Safran Space is a French company that supplies aerospace and defence technologies, including navigation and payload systems used in satellites. Dhruva Space develops space systems, satellite platforms, and related ground segment solutions in India.
The agreement places component supply, integration, and ground support within a cross-border commercial framework between Indian and French space firms. The deal also falls within a wider set of 51 strategic announcements at the summit, which together represented €20 billion in investments.
