The Madhya Pradesh government launched the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan on March 30, 2025, for water conservation. Under this, the Ghoda Pachhad River, a tributary of the Narmada, has been revived in Khandwa district with citizen support. Uncontrolled groundwater use had dried up rivers, harming farming. Using the ‘Ridge to Valley’ method, water harvesting structures were built along a 33 km stretch. This method helps slow water flow and store every drop from ridge to valley. Now, rivers in the region show potential for year-round flow.

The Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report is an annual publication by UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It gives a detailed, evidence-based analysis of global education progress, challenges, and trends. The report was first launched in 2002 as the Education for All Global Monitoring Report and was renamed in 2016. Its main aim is to guide governments and stakeholders by offering policy recommendations to improve education systems. In the latest context, the GEM report shows that 272 million children are out of school globally, which is 21 million more than the previous estimate

Iran launched ‘Operation True Promise 3’ in response to Israel’s ‘Operation Rising Lion’, which targeted Iran’s military and nuclear sites. This conflict is rooted in history, as after the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Iran became an Islamic Republic and adopted an anti-Israel policy. Before 1979, Iran and Israel were allies.

The second batch of Phase 2 of the National Geospatial Knowledge-Based Land Survey of Urban Habitations (NAKSHA) Capacity Building Programme was inaugurated recently. A total of 128 officers from Urban Local Bodies (ULB) and districts will receive one week of hands-on training. NAKSHA is a city survey initiative under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP). The program, led by the Department of Land Resources, aims to update land records in urban areas for better documentation and dispute reduction.

Notes:
Traditional construction methods will be used to restore and preserve the Simhachalam Temple. The temple, also called Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Temple, is located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. It is dedicated to Narasimha, the man-lion avatar of Lord Vishnu. The temple shows a mix of Orissan and Chalukyan architectural styles. Unusually, it faces west instead of east, symbolising the victory of divine forces over evil.
