‘World Veterinary Day’ is annually observed on the last Saturday of April. This year, it fell on April 30. The day aims to highlight and promote the work performed by veterinarians all over the world.
In 1959, World Veterinary Association (WVA) was founded in Madrid, Spain. In 2001 the WVA proposed to celebrate the World Veterinary Day. WVA deals with issues related to animal safety and environment. It also ensures the availability of necessary natural resources to raise livestock.

Sports journalism will step into its 100th year of existence in Assam. On July 1, 1923, the first ever sports news on football match from Sivasagar was published in the weekly magazine named ‘Asomiya’, published by Chandra Kumar Agarwalla.
The Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA) has decided to celebrate the occasion with a year-long programme.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes is headed by a Chairman and can have six members who are in the rank of Special Secretary. It is the administrative body for the Income Tax department. There are five members in the board at present.
Recently, IRS officer Sangeeta Singh has been given the additional charge of CBDT chairperson after incumbent JB Mohapatra retired as the head of CBDT.

Attappadi, Kerala’s only tribal block has recorded increasing infant deaths, mainly due to malnutrition and health problems of mothers. Since 2012, as many as 137 tribal infant deaths have occurred.
The Health Department of the state launched a comprehensive healthcare programme for all newly-wed tribal couples in Attappadi. It aims to improve the health of tribal women and prevent neonatal deaths and children born with genetic disorders.

The Indian Coast Guard commissioned its second Air Squadron ‘845 Squadron (CG)’ at the Coast Guard Air Enclave at Nedumbassery in Kochi.
The new Air Squadron is equipped with the indigenously developed Advanced Mark III (ALH Mark III) helicopters. As of now, four helicopters have been positioned in Kochi to cover the coast of Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur announced that India will be the official Country of Honour at the upcoming Marche’ Du Film, organized alongside the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, in France.
This is the first time the Marché du Film has an official Country of Honour. India is also a Country of Honour at the Cannes Next, under which 5 Start-Ups will have an opportunity to cast to the Audio-Visual Industry. France and India are marking 75 years of their diplomatic ties and PM Modi is on a visit to France.

PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel Park (PM MITRA) is being implemented by Union Ministry of Textiles.
PM MITRA Park creates an Integrated Textiles Value Chain at one location and will reduce logistics cost. A National Conference on PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel Park (PM MITRA) Parks Scheme was organized by Ministry of Textiles. 13 State Governments presented plans for setting up of PM MITRA Parks in their respective states.

Construction and engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced the merger of its two software companies, Larsen & Toubro Infotech (LTI) and Mindtree.
The combined entity will be known as “LTIMindtree” and will be headed by the Head of Mindtree. By market capitalisation, the combined entity will surpass Tech Mahindra to become the fifth-largest IT services provider. Currently, TCS ranks first among IT firms with the highest market valuation, followed by Infosys, HCL Tech, Wipro.

Notes:
Karnataka’s first floating bridge has been recently inaugurated on the Malpe Beach in Udupi. A visitor can feel the sea wave movement while walking on the bridge.
The bridge is 100-metre-long and 3-metre-wide and around 100 visitors will be allowed to walk on the bridge. As the bridge is not permanently attached, it could be easily relocated to another place easily.

Markets Regulator- Securities and Exchange Board of India has recently formed an advisory committee for advising on Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) related matters related to the securities markets.
The committee will be chaired by Navneet Munot, the chief executive officer of HDFC Asset Management Company.
