A recent report by Forrester Research is published in Times of India today which says that Total Internet Users in the world will be 2.2 billion by 2013 and India’s global rank at that time shall be third.

India has received as many as 52,78,852 foreign visitors in 2008 against 50,96,990 in 2007, an increase of only 1.81 lakh. The number of US nationals is on the top followed by UK . (Times of India)

July 24, 2009: India’s number 1 in remittance flow: World Bank
As per a report released by World Bank recently , India has retained its position as the highest recipient of global remittance flow at $52 million in 2008, the World Bank said in a report. This is 15 per cent of the total global remittance inflows constitutes 3.3 per cent of India’s GDP.
The top 10 countries are :

  1. India,
  2. China
  3. Mexico
  4. Philippines
  5. Poland
  6. Nigeria
  7. Romania,
  8. Egypt ,
  9. Bangladesh
  10. Vietnam.

July 24, 2009 : Number of hungry people to swell to record 1 billion : FAO
Because of the ongoing financial crisis , population of hungry people in the world will reach an all-time high in 2009 as per latest estimates of UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). The number will shoot up to 1.02 billion in 2009. Out of this over half of the world’s hungry, about 642 million, will be in Asia and the Pacific, while around 265 million others will be in the Sub-Saharan Africa.

The top 10 countries with largest foreign exchange reserves are as follows:

  1. China : $2.132 trillion
  2. Japan : $1.019 trillion
  3. Russia : $401 billion
  4. Taiwan : $305 billion
  5. India : $262 billion
  6. South Korea : $ 220 billion
  7. Brazil : $210 billion
  8. Hong Kong : $186 billion
  9. Singapore : $166 billion
  10. Germany : $144 billion

According to the Happy Planet Index 2.0. published recently by the New Economics Foundation, Latin American countries have high scores when it comes to happiness. The top 10 countries in the list of 143 countries are as follows:

  1. Costa Rica
  2. Dominican Republic
  3. Jamaica
  4. Guatemala
  5. Vietnam
  6. Columbia
  7. Cuba
  8. El Salvador
  9. Brazil
  10. Honduras

This index was based upon 3 indicators : life expectancy, life satisfaction and ecological foot print. India’s rank is 35, while China is on Number 20. Australia is on number 102.

July 22, 2009: India third in FDI ranking
UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) has recently released a report on world investment prospects. India is on third place in global FDI . China Tops this list and US is on second place. The title of the report is ‘World Investment Prospects Survey 2009-2011’.
