Cabinet Raises EPFO Wage Ceiling to ₹25,000
The Union Cabinet approved an increase in the wage ceiling for mandatory coverage under the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month on 16 September 2026. The revised ceiling will apply from 17 September 2026, which coincides with Vishwakarma Day or Vishwakarma Jayanti.
Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation is a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Employment. It administers provident fund, pension and insurance-related social security benefits for eligible employees in India.
Wage Ceiling for Mandatory Coverage
The wage ceiling is the monthly salary limit used to decide compulsory coverage under the EPFO framework. The previous ceiling of ₹15,000 per month had been in force since September 2014, when it replaced the earlier limit of ₹6,500 per month.
Contribution Structure and Pension Link
Under the revised ceiling, employees and employers whose EPF contribution was earlier capped at ₹15,000 will see monthly contributions rise from ₹1,800 to ₹3,000. The monthly pension contribution cap will increase from ₹1,250 to ₹2,080 under the revised limit.
