Amaravati Quantum Valley Achieves 4 Kelvin Cooling Milestone

Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV) achieved 4 Kelvin, or -269°C, cooling on 19 June 2026 using an indigenous dilution refrigerator at the Quantum Reference Facility in Medha Towers, Amaravati. The facility is part of India’s quantum technology ecosystem and is linked to indigenous development in cryogenic technologies.

4 Kelvin in Quantum Hardware Testing

4 Kelvin is a cryogenic temperature used in laboratories for testing superconducting devices, quantum sensors, cryogenic electronics, single-photon detectors, and other quantum components. A dilution refrigerator is a cryogenic system that uses a mixture of helium-3 and helium-4 to reach temperatures below 1 Kelvin in advanced research setups.

Quantum Reference Facilities in India

India established its first Quantum Reference Facilities in April 2026 at Medha Towers, Amaravati, and SRM University AP. These facilities function as national testbeds for quantum hardware development and characterisation.

Amaravati Quantum Valley Ecosystem

The AQV initiative began in September 2025 after discussions involving scientists, researchers, startups, industry leaders, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and IT Minister Nara Lokesh. The ecosystem has been described as a “Made in Amaravati for the World” quantum hardware framework.

Industrial and Research Partners

AQV partnered with Qbit Force and Qubitech to map India’s quantum hardware supply chain. The partnership focuses on indigenous capability in cryogenic systems, which are required for superconducting quantum computing and related instrumentation.
