Union Health Ministry Launches ’75/25′ Initiative

The Union Health Ministry has unveiled the “75/25” initiative, aiming to revolutionize the management and prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in India. This ambitious program sets a target of providing Standard Care to 75 million individuals with hypertension and diabetes by 2025. Alongside this initiative, the launch of the Shashakt Portal and the release of revised operational guidelines for the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD) are further bolstering the country’s healthcare system.

Putting NCDs in Focus

The “75/25” initiative places NCDs at the forefront of India’s healthcare agenda. By prioritizing hypertension and diabetes, two prevalent NCDs, the aim is to improve the overall well-being of millions of individuals. This initiative acknowledges the significance of early detection, treatment, and adherence to Standard Care protocols in combating NCDs.

Training Medical Officers and Standard Treatment Workflow

To effectively implement the “75/25” initiative, the Union Health Ministry plans to train 40,000 Primary Health Care Medical Officers on the Standard Treatment Workflow for NCDs through the Shashakt Portal. This training will equip healthcare providers with the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver standardized care for individuals with NCDs. By strengthening the capacity of healthcare professionals, the initiative ensures that quality care is delivered closer to the community.

Wider Coverage and Revised Guidelines

The revised operational guidelines of the NP-NCD demonstrate the government’s commitment to wider coverage and inclusivity. These guidelines extend the program’s reach by incorporating additional diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Diseases (NAFLD), ST Elevation of Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), as well as the three common Cancers – Oral, Breast, and Cervical. This expansion aims to address the growing burden of NCDs comprehensively.
