UltraTech Surpasses 2 GW Green Energy Capacity

UltraTech Cement Limited became the first Indian cement company to cross 2 gigawatts of green energy capacity for captive use on 5 October 2026. Its cumulative installed green energy capacity reached 2,024 MW, with 1,580 MW from renewable energy sources and 444 MW from Waste Heat Recovery Systems.

Green Energy Capacity in Industry

Captive power refers to electricity generated for a company’s own use, and it is common in energy-intensive sectors such as cement, steel, and aluminium. Green energy capacity includes renewable energy sources such as wind and solar, along with Waste Heat Recovery Systems that use waste heat from industrial processes to generate electricity.

UltraTech’s Installed Capacity Mix

UltraTech’s 2,024 MW green energy portfolio includes 1,580 MW of renewable energy capacity and 444 MW of Waste Heat Recovery Systems. The company commissioned 116.55 MW of wind capacity at its Inter-State Transmission System-connected wind-solar hybrid project in Barmer, Rajasthan, and 10 MW of Waste Heat Recovery System capacity at Sarlanagar Cement Works in Karnataka.

Manufacturing Network and Power Use

UltraTech operates 76 manufacturing units in India, and nearly one-third of these units maintained green energy utilisation above 50% of electricity needs in FY27 to date. Five units recorded green energy utilisation above 95%, and the company’s green energy portfolio now meets about 48% of its current power requirements.
