UIDAI: Training for postmen for Aadhaar Service

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is set to roll out ‘door-to-door Aadhaar seva”. For this purpose, around 48,000 postmen are being trained.

  • UIDAI is rolling out this service as government has decided to make Aadhaar the cornerstone of identity for Indians.
  • UIDAI is training the postmen of India Post Payment Bank, to go door to door across India and link Aadhaar number with mobile number, update details as well as conduct enrolment of children at doorstep.
  • Apart from IPPB postmen, UIDAI is also looking to onboard around 13,000 banking correspondents who are currently working with the Common Service Centre under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

UIDAI Expansion Plans

Postmen are being trained as a part of UIDAI’s expansion plans, which aims to reach out to more people and enrol as many citizens as possible. The authority also seeks to cover all 150,000 postal officers in the second part of the plan. As of now, UIDAI has run pilots on IPPB postmen through tablet and mobile-based kit for child enrolment. Now, expansion plan has been made in order to enable them to update Aadhaar details in remote areas through laptop or a desktop.

Aadhaar Seva Kendra

UIDAI has also planned to start an Aadhaar Seva Kendra across 755 districts of India, so that Aadhaar details updated and collected by CSC banking correspondents and postmen can be updated fast. Currently, 88 UIDAI Seva Kendra are working in 72 cities. But plan has been made to reach the remotest corners of country.

Mini Aadhaar Seva Kendra

UIDAI also seeks to open ‘mini’ Aadhaar Seva Kendra across 7224 blocks of India, that have required set up to link PAN and mobile to Aadhaar card, as well as updating details such as phone number or address.

About Aadhaar

Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number, generated by UIDAI. This number can be obtained voluntarily by citizens of India or any resident foreign nationals who have lived here for more than 182 days in twelve months immediately before the date of application for enrolment.
