TakeMe2Space Plans India’s First Orbital Data Centre Mission

Hyderabad-based TakeMe2Space plans to launch India’s first networked orbital data centre mission in 2028. The mission will use two 100-kilogram MOI (My Orbital Infrastructure) constellation satellites and a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch under the Waymaker 2 rideshare mission.

Orbital Data Centre Concept

An orbital data centre is a space-based computing system that processes data in orbit instead of sending all raw data to Earth. The planned mission will use optical inter-satellite links, which are laser-based communication links between satellites, to share workloads and data.

Each satellite will carry 10 Nvidia Thor GPUs, 100 terabytes of storage, a one-metre multispectral imager, and power systems generating about 1.5 kilowatts. The satellites are designed to function as a distributed computer rather than as separate platforms.

Mission Architecture and Launch Plan

The launch service agreement has been signed with RIDE! space, a Paris-based launch mission management company. The company secured the Falcon 9 slot for a late-2028 launch window under the Waymaker 2 rideshare mission.

The mission is planned as a networked constellation mission, which means the satellites will operate as a connected system in orbit. The use of a rideshare mission allows multiple payloads to share one launch vehicle.

TakeMe2Space’s Earlier Missions

TakeMe2Space launched its MOI-TD (Technology Demonstrator) mission on 30 December 2024. That mission carried out more than 20 experiments in low Earth orbit.

The company’s MOI-1 satellite was lost in a PSLV-C62 launch failure in January 2026. The company has stated a longer-term plan to build a six-satellite constellation over the next few years.

Important Facts for Exams

  • Low Earth orbit generally refers to altitudes below 2,000 kilometres above Earth’s surface.
  • Optical inter-satellite links use light-based communication between satellites and are different from radio-frequency links.
  • Multispectral imagers capture data in multiple wavelength bands and are used in Earth observation.
  • Rideshare missions carry more than one payload on the same launch vehicle.

Key Technical Terms

MOI stands for My Orbital Infrastructure. Nvidia Thor is a GPU platform used for high-performance computing applications. PSLV-C62 refers to an Indian Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle mission.
