Bihar will host the 7th edition of Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025 from 4th to 15th May in cities like Patna, Gaya, Rajgir, Begusarai, and Bhagalpur. The mascot “Gajsimha” represents the strength of an elephant and the courage of a lion, inspired by the Pala dynasty’s heritage seen in Nalanda and Bodhgaya. The KIYG 2025 logo reflects Bihar’s rich culture with vibrant orange colours symbolizing enthusiasm and nature. More than 10,000 delegates will attend and 27 sports disciplines will be featured, including volleyball, football, basketball, boxing, kabaddi, athletics, Sepak Takraw, and indigenous games like Malkhamb

World number one Magnus Carlsen won the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam held in Paris. He defeated Hikaru Nakamura 1.5–0.5 by winning the first game and drawing the second. This was Carlsen’s first Grand Slam title in this new freestyle format. He won a prize of $200,000, showing his strength in a format blending creativity with classical chess. Caruana earned a spot in the next Grand Slam event in the United States of America (USA) this July. The Paris event featured top-level players and a fresh approach to chess.

Hockey Punjab, led by Hardik Singh, won the 15th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship Trophy 2025 by defeating Hockey Madhya Pradesh 4-1 in the final. The final match of Division A was held on 15 April 2025 at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Jhansi, Madhya Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Hockey won the bronze medal by defeating Manipur Hockey 5-1. Hockey Punjab won their 5th title since the tournament began under Hockey India in 2011. The tournament was organised by Hockey India and held from 4 to 15 April 2025.

Indian athletes won 11 medals at the 6th Asian Under-18 (U18) Athletics Championship 2025 held in Saudi Arabia from April 15 to 18. The event was organised by the Asian Athletics Association at Prince Naif Bin Abdulaziz Sports City. Athletes under 18 years from 31 Asian countries took part in the championship. India won one gold, five silver, and five bronze medals in total. Himanshu won the gold medal in the boys’ javelin throw event. In the previous 5th edition held in 2023 at Tashkent, Uzbekistan, India had won 24 medals.

The Asian Games 2026 will be held in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. This will mark the third time the Asian Games is being hosted in Japan, after Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994. Cricket has been officially retained for the Asian Games 2026. Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) will make its debut in the 2026 edition of the continental event.

Recently, Maharashtra emerged as the overall champion at the seventh Khelo India Youth Games 2025 with 158 medals, including 58 gold and 47 silver. Haryana came second with 117 medals, winning 39 gold and 27 silver. Rajasthan secured third place with 60 medals, including 24 gold and 12 silver. On the final day, Uttar Pradesh won the boys’ basketball gold, while Karnataka won the girls’ basketball final against Haryana. Haryana showed dominance in fencing, winning 7 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals. New records were set in weightlifting, and in track events by Kadir Khan and Aditya Pisale. Host state Bihar made remarkable progress, winning 36 medals, especially in athletics.

The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has announced the first Khelo India Beach Games. It will be held in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. The event is scheduled from 19 to 25 May 2025. This is part of the Khelo India initiative to promote sports across India. The announcement comes after the successful Khelo India Winter Games held in Jammu and Kashmir and Gulmarg in January–February 2025. It follows the Khelo India Para Games held in Delhi in March–April 2025. It also follows the 7th Khelo India Youth Games held in Bihar in May 2025.

Veteran Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina has officially retired from professional football at the age of 42. He began his career at FC Barcelona in 2000 and later helped Villarreal qualify for the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League. His most memorable spell was at Liverpool, where he played 394 matches, won the Football Association (FA) Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and received the Premier League Golden Glove three times. He made nearly 1,000 professional appearances and kept over 300 clean sheets in his 26-year career. Internationally, Reina earned 36 caps for Spain, winning the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup in 2010 and UEFA European Championships in 2008 and 2012.

The Khelo India Beach Games (KIBG) 2025 were held from May 19 to 23 in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. More than 1000 athletes from 30 states and Union Territories (UTs) took part in this five-day tournament. It featured six medal sports and two demonstration sports. Manipur won the championship with 14 medals—five gold, six silver, and three bronze. Maharashtra won the most medals overall with 20 but ranked second due to fewer silver medals. Nagaland came third with 13 medals, including five gold.
