Indian Shooter Manish Narwal has bagged a Gold Medal at the Tokyo Paralympics in the P4 Mixed 50m Pistol SH1 event. The 19-year-old shooting champion shot a total of 218.2 which is a Paralympic record.

Another Indian shooter Singhraj Adana has bagged the Silver in the P4 Mixed 50m Pistol SH1 event and bronze in the P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1.

The state government of Arunachal Pradesh has launched 2 schemes named Atma Nirbhar Krishi Yojna and Atma Nirbhar Bagwani Yojna. AtmaNirbhar Krishi Yojna is an agri sector scheme while Atma Nirbhar Bagwani Yojna is a horticulture scheme.

The government has allocated a total sum of Rs. 120 crores for these two schemes, Rs.60 crores for each of the schemes.

Guinea, the west African nation is a major global supplier of bauxite, which is crucial for the manufacturing of aluminum and iron ore.

Guinea exported 82.4 million tons of bauxite in 2020, making it the world’ largest exporters. Almost all bauxite is used to make alumina, which is used primarily to make aluminum. Aluminum prices rose to their highest level in 10 years after a military coup in Guinea threatened to damage the supply chain.

The Tamil Nadu government has decided to celebrate every year the birth anniversary of reformist leader E. V. Ramasamy Periyar on September 17 as Social Justice Day. Periyar (September 17, 1879–December 24, 1973) was instrumental in the enactment of the first Constitutional Amendment Act (that safeguarded reservation for backward classes).

Some 28% of the 1,38,374 species assessed by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for its survival watch list are now at high risk of vanishing forever. The IUCN World Conservation Congress 2020 is being held in Marseille, France from September 3 to 11, 2021. Habitat loss, over-exploitation and illegal trade have hammered global wildlife populations for decades, and climate change is now kicking in as a direct threat as well as reported by the IUCN. The event was originally scheduled in June, 2020 but was rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gujarat government has planned to undertake public welfare projects worth Rs. 1,000 crores jointly with non-resident Gujaratis which have to be completed by December 2022. The projects will be under the state government’s ‘Vatan Prem Yojana’. Vatan Prem Yojana is a repackaged version of Madar-e-Vatan scheme by the state government of Gujarat. The Vatan prem yojana will cover village-level projects such as: Smart classes in schools, Library Community hall, Primary health centres, CCTV surveillance system, Water recycling, drainage, sewage treatment and beautification of ponds, Solar energy powered streetlights, etc.

Cuba has become the first country in the world to vaccinate children from the age of two against Covid-19, using home-grown jabs not recognized by the World Health Organization. The communist island of 11.2 million people completed clinical trials on minors with its Abdala and Soberana vaccines.

Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Russia on cooperation in the field of Geosciences. MoU was signed between the Joint Stock Company Rosgeologia (State holding Company) of Russia and the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Ministry of Mines.

Retired IPS officer RN Ravi has been shifted from Nagaland to Tamil Nadu as its new governor. He was an IPS 1976 batch officer from Kerala cadre who had retired as Special Director in Intelligence Bureau in 2012. From 2014, he is the interlocutor for talks between NSCN-IM and the government of India.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has handed over the first deliverable Firing Unit (FU) of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) System to Indian Air Force (IAF). In a significant boost to defence capabilities of India, MRSAM was handed over to IAF at Air Force Station, Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. MRSAM is an advanced network centric combat Air Defence System. It was jointly developed by DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in collaboration with Indian industry consisting of private and public sectors as well as MSMEs. It is a surface-to-air-missile, 4.5m in length. Contract for MRSAM programme was signed in February 2009. Under the contract, IAF was to buy 450 MRSAMs and 18 firing units at the value of $2bn.
