5th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament is being held in Vienna on Sept 7th and 8th. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla reached Vienna to attend the 5th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament by the Austrian Parliament, Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations. The two-day conference will begin on Sept 7. The World Conference of Speakers of Parliament is held regularly every five years with the goal to reinforce the Parliamentary dimension of global governance.

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) and LIC Housing Finance Ltd (LICHFL), has entered into a strategic partnership to provide home loan products to over 4.5 crore customers of IPPB. Through its robust and extensive network of 650 branches and more than 1,36,000 banking access points, IPPB will make LICHFL’s home loan products accessible to its customers pan-India.

The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed Rajnish Kumar as its economic advisor. A former SBI chairman, Rajnish Kumar’s tenure in the cabinet rank position is for two years.

HDFC Bank has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) to offer and strengthen credit support to MSMEs across India. Partnership with NSIC will help in boosting the MSME Sector growth which is the backbone of India in terms of economic development as well as job creation. Under this MoU, HDFC Bank will provide MSMEs a set of specially tailored schemes in order to enhance their competitiveness. HDFC Bank branches will also extend support to MSME projects in the areas they are located and other important industrial sectors in India.

The International Day of clean Air For Blue Skies was celebrated on September 7, 2021. The theme is “Healthy Air, Healthy Planet” which emphasizes the health aspects of air pollution, especially considering the COVID-19 pandemic. The day serves as a rallying call to action to align our efforts and claim our right to clean air. #HealthyAirHealthyPlanet. The day is facilitated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Amazon India has announced the launch of Kisan Store – an online platform that will enable farmers across India to get access to more than 8,000 agriculture inputs such as seeds, farm tools and accessories, plant protection, nutrition, and more. These products, which are listed by small and medium businesses (SMBs), will be available at competitive prices on Amazon India, with the added convenience of delivery at the doorstep of the farmers. The store was launched by Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

Bank of Baroda has topped the MeitY Digital Payment Scorecard for 2020-21 with a total of 86% marks on the scorecard. The scorecard ranks 44 banks (Public Sector Banks, Private Banks, Foreign Banks, Payments Banks, Small Finance Banks) on various parameters on the digital business.

International Literacy Day is observed and celebrated widely every year on September 8. The first International Literacy Day was observed in the year 1967. This date was declared as International Literacy Day by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in the year 1966. This day is observed to remind the international community about the importance of literacy for individuals, communities and societies.  International Literacy Day also highlights the need for intensified efforts towards more literate societies. In 2021, the theme is ‘Literacy for a human-centred recovery: Narrowing the digital divide’.

Paytm has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Paytm Money, is launching a wealth and investment advisory marketplace on its platform to offer curated advisory services and products to retail investors. Paytm Money has partnered with start-up WealthDesk to offer investment portfolios called ‘WealthBaskets’ as the first step to build up the advisory ecosystem.

The South Korean military has conducted its first successful underwater test of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLMB). This test was conducted by Dosan Ahn Chang-ho submarine that was inducted in service in August 2021. This submarine has launched a Hyunmoo-2B ballistic missile which has a 500km range. Dosan Ahn Chang-ho is the country’s first 3000 ton class submarine which is equipped with six launch tubes. This launch makes South Korea the 8th country capable of SLMB joining United States, India, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom.
