Indian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel INS Savitri arrived Chattogram harbour, Bangladesh, carrying two 960 LPM (Litres Per Minute) Medical Oxygen Plants (MOP) to support the ongoing efforts of the Bangladesh in tackling Covid-19.

The MOPs were developed and manufactured by DRDO in India. The ship is also scheduled to participate in a Maritime Partnership Exercise with BN ship on departure from the Chattogram port.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) opened a two-day Lunar Science Workshop 2021, to commemorate the completion of two years of operation of Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft around the lunar orbit.

Chandrayaan-2 has completed more than 9,000 orbits around the Moon. The imaging and scientific instruments on board have been relaying the required data. ISRO Chairperson also released the documents based on data from Chandrayaan-2, along with data from spacecraft’s orbiter payloads.

Notes:
India and Nepal have signed a MoU (memorandum of understanding), under which India would help Nepal in reconstruction of 14 cultural heritage and 103 health sector projects which were damaged during the 2015 earthquake. The total cost of these reconstruction is 420 crore Nepalese Rupees.

This is a part of India’s post-earthquake reconstruction package, under which India has committed a total grant of USD 250 million to Nepal.

The Tamil Nadu government has decided to celebrate every year the birth anniversary of reformist leader E. V. Ramasamy Periyar on September 17 as Social Justice Day. Periyar (September 17, 1879–December 24, 1973) was instrumental in the enactment of the first Constitutional Amendment Act (that safeguarded reservation for backward classes).

Indian biologist Shailendra Singh has been awarded the Behler Turtle Conservation Award for bringing three critically endangered turtle conservation species back from the brink of extinction. The award has been bestowed by several global bodies involved in turtle conservation such as Turtle Survival Alliance, IUCN/SSC Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group, Turtle Conservancy, and the Turtle Conservation Fund.

The bilateral exercise – AUSINDEX between Indian Navy and Royal Australian Navy is being held in Australia from September 6 to 10, 2021. The exercise will provide an opportunity for both Navies to further bolster inter-operability, gain from best practices and develop a common understanding of procedures for Maritime Security Operations. The two countries will also be holding their first “2+2″ Foreign and Defence Ministers meet in New Delhi.

Gujarat government has planned to undertake public welfare projects worth Rs. 1,000 crores jointly with non-resident Gujaratis which have to be completed by December 2022. The projects will be under the state government’s ‘Vatan Prem Yojana’. Vatan Prem Yojana is a repackaged version of Madar-e-Vatan scheme by the state government of Gujarat. The Vatan prem yojana will cover village-level projects such as: Smart classes in schools, Library Community hall, Primary health centres, CCTV surveillance system, Water recycling, drainage, sewage treatment and beautification of ponds, Solar energy powered streetlights, etc.

Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj, current district magistrate of Noida, has become the first IAS officer to win Paralympics medal. He lost gold to top seed Lucas Mazur of France in the men’s singles SL4 class final at the Tokyo Paralympics on September 5. In the Tokyo Paralympics, India has won 19 medals.

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India GC Murmu has been elected as the Chairman of the Assembly of Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) from 2024-2027 with India set to host the 16th Assembly of ASOSAI in 2024.

Union environment minister, Bhupendra Yadav has launched a portal called PRANA on September 7, 2021. PRANA Portal will be used to track the progress of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) in order to comply with India’s commitment to ensure clean air and blue skies to everybody. This portal was launched on the occasion of ‘International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies’ in non-attainment cities (NAC). Non-attainment cities are those cities that failed to meet the National air quality standards in a five-year period.
