The State Government of Chhattisgarh has implemented the scheme named ‘Patrakar Kalyan Kosh’. Under this scheme, the families of journalists who lost their lives in COVID, would be provided with financial assistance.

Further, under this scheme, a sum of Rs 2 lakh would be given to journalists for treatment of COVID disease. The state has also decided to increase the monthly pension to senior journalist from Rs.5000 to Rs.10,000, under the Senior Journalist Samman Nidhi scheme.

Indian private sector life insurer HDFC Life is set to acquire 100 per cent stake Exide Life Insurance for a sum of Rs. 6,687 crore. This deal is seen as one of the biggest deals in Indian insurance sector.

This deal would enhance HDFC Life’s agency business by 40 per cent and agent base by 30%. Also, it would raise the assets under management of the company to over Rs 2 trillion.

The Government of Gujarat has launched a scheme named ‘Vatan Prem Yojana’, under which NRI Gujaratis who are willing to donate for development of their native village, would get financial support from the state government.

Under this scheme, the government encourages donations for development of social infrastructure like schools, drainage, sports complex etc in rural areas.

Indian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel INS Savitri arrived Chattogram harbour, Bangladesh, carrying two 960 LPM (Litres Per Minute) Medical Oxygen Plants (MOP) to support the ongoing efforts of the Bangladesh in tackling Covid-19.

The MOPs were developed and manufactured by DRDO in India. The ship is also scheduled to participate in a Maritime Partnership Exercise with BN ship on departure from the Chattogram port.

Walmart-owned digital payments firm PhonePe has launched PhonePe Pulse, India’s first interactive platform with data, insights and trends on digital payments in the country.

The website showcases more than 2000 crore transactions by consumers on an interactive map of India. PhonePe also launched the Pulse Report, which studies on the evolution of digital payments over the past 5 years with detailed geographical and category-specific trends. As per the report, over 300 million Indians from 19,000 pin codes now use digital payments.

The Government of Karnataka has proposed and planned to reintroduce ‘Industrial Adalats’ (Industrial courts) from September 2021. This is aimed to resolve industry related problems on the spot and serve as a platform to get long pending pleas.

The state earlier had such a system of Industrial courts between the years 2008 and 2013.

Writer Namita Gokhale has been awarded the 7th Yamin Hazarika Woman of Substance Award. She was conferred upon the honour recently in a virtual ceremony.
Organised by a collective of women professionals from the year 2015, the annual award honours Yamin Hazarika, the first woman from Northeast India to be selected for DANIPS, a federal police service that administered Delhi and the Union Territories in 1977.

El Salvador has become the first country to adopt bitcoin as legal tender, although it suffered teething problems when the government had to unplug a digital wallet to cope with demand. President Nayib Bukele, who pushed for adoption of the cryptocurrency, said using bitcoin will help Salvadorans save $400 million a year on commissions for remittances, while giving access to financial services to those with no bank account.

The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) has signed a MoU with Tamil Nadu Generation & Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO). Under the MoU, IREDA will extend technical expertise & support to TANGEDCO for Renewable energy project development, to bid process management, and provide implementation support. IREDA will also assist TANGEDCO in debt raising by developing financial models, assistance in the understanding market instrument, underwriting services for the proposed debt requirement, conducting pre-market surveys, and road shows to evoke interest amongst potential investors. TANGEDCO is planning to undertake 20,000 MW of Solar Power Project, with adequate Battery Storage, 3,000 MW of Pumped Storage Hydro Electric Project, and 2,000 MW of Gas Based Power Plant for efficient Renewable integration.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Fiserv Inc. Has partnered to launch a plug-and-play RuPay credit card stack named ‘nFiNi’. ‘nFiNi’ is a RuPay based Application Programming Interface platform to boost credit card based products in the country. The nFiNi platform will power RuPay cards (including National Common Mobility Card) by offering access to needed services through the NPCI network combined with FirstVisionTM cloud-based open API integrations from Fiserv.
