The Government of India would sign a tripartite “Karbi Peace Accord” between the Union Government, Government of Assam and representatives of Karbi outfits.

The Karbis are one of the major ethnic communities in the north eastern India, especially in Assam. Assam has a long history of violent activities by Karbis since the 1980s. Recently, 1,040 terrorists of five insurgent groups of this group have laid down arms at an event in Guwahati and have surrendered.

The Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to set up India’s first Dugong Conservation Reserve in the Palk Bay on the southeast coast of the state.

Dugong or Sea Cow is an endangered marine mammal that is facing extinction due to habitat loss, sea pollution and loss of seagrass. Dugong is found in Gulf of Mannar, which is a shallow bay area between south eastern tip of Tamil Nadu and western part of Sri Lanka, and at Palk Bay.

Jammu & Kashmir LG has recently launched the ‘Tourist Village network’ to promote tourism and create sustainable employment for the youth.

This initiative is launched under the Mission Youth and will work towards focussing on the 75 villages in the UT that are already famous for their historical, scenic beauty and cultural importance. Under the scheme, the administration will recognise the uniqueness of each village and showcase the landscape.

The National Level Exhibition and Project Competition for INSPIRE Awards – MANAK (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspiration and Knowledge) has commended, under the aegis of Dept. of Science and Technology – Union Ministry of Science and Technology.

The INSPIRE Awards – MANAK scheme has been launched to motivate students in the age group of 10-15 years of class 6 to 10th standards, to become future innovators.

Indian biologist Shailendra Singh has been awarded the Behler Turtle Conservation Award for bringing three critically endangered turtle conservation species back from the brink of extinction. The award has been bestowed by several global bodies involved in turtle conservation such as Turtle Survival Alliance, IUCN/SSC Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group, Turtle Conservancy, and the Turtle Conservation Fund.

The bilateral exercise – AUSINDEX between Indian Navy and Royal Australian Navy is being held in Australia from September 6 to 10, 2021. The exercise will provide an opportunity for both Navies to further bolster inter-operability, gain from best practices and develop a common understanding of procedures for Maritime Security Operations. The two countries will also be holding their first “2+2″ Foreign and Defence Ministers meet in New Delhi.

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India GC Murmu has been elected as the Chairman of the Assembly of Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) from 2024-2027 with India set to host the 16th Assembly of ASOSAI in 2024.

The Punjab government and the American Chamber of Commerce in India (Amcham India) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote investment in the state as well as further increase the ease of doing business for US member companies. The first-of-its-kind MoU that Amcham India signed with any state will also see the formation of a joint working group which will include members from Invest Punjab and the American trade body.

Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Russia on cooperation in the field of Geosciences. MoU was signed between the Joint Stock Company Rosgeologia (State holding Company) of Russia and the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Ministry of Mines.
