The government has appointed Harsha Bhupendra Bangari as the managing director (MD) of Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank). Bangari, who is presently the deputy managing director at EXIM Bank, would be at the helm for a period of three years or until further orders of the government.

HDFC Bank has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) to offer and strengthen credit support to MSMEs across India. Partnership with NSIC will help in boosting the MSME Sector growth which is the backbone of India in terms of economic development as well as job creation. Under this MoU, HDFC Bank will provide MSMEs a set of specially tailored schemes in order to enhance their competitiveness. HDFC Bank branches will also extend support to MSME projects in the areas they are located and other important industrial sectors in India.

Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya resigned on September 8, 2021, two years before completing her tenure. She tendered her resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind. She was sworn in as the governor of Uttarakhand on August 26, 2018.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Fiserv Inc. Has partnered to launch a plug-and-play RuPay credit card stack named ‘nFiNi’. ‘nFiNi’ is a RuPay based Application Programming Interface platform to boost credit card based products in the country. The nFiNi platform will power RuPay cards (including National Common Mobility Card) by offering access to needed services through the NPCI network combined with FirstVisionTM cloud-based open API integrations from Fiserv.

Central government has approved the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme of worth Rs 10,683 crore for the textiles sector. This PLI scheme was approved in order to boost domestic manufacturing and exports. This scheme will help in creating direct additional employment of more than 7.5 lakh people and several supporting activities. As a part of incentives approved for textiles sector, the payout will be spread over a period of five years. This PLI scheme was approved for textiles, MMF (man-made fibre) fabrics, MMF apparel and 10 segments or products of technical textiles. This PLI scheme will impact and benefit special states including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Odisha.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, chaired the 13th BRICS Summit virtually on September 9, 2021. India chose the theme of the Summit as “BRICS@15: Intra-BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation and Consensus”. The Summit was participated by all other BRICS Leaders namely, President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro, President of Russia Vladimir Putin President of China Xi Jinping and President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa. Under India’s chair ship, BRICS took several new initiatives, which includes First BRICS Digital Health Summit, First BRICS Ministerial Joint Statement on multilateral reforms, BRICS Counter-Terrorism Action Plan, Agreement on cooperation in field of remote-sensing satellites, Virtual BRICS vaccine Research & Development Centre, BRICS Alliance on Green Tourism etc.

Co-WIN has developed a new Application programming interface called ‘Know Your Customer’s or Client’s Vaccination Status (KYC-VS). This will enable entities to check an individual’s status of vaccination through CoWIN. To use this API, an individual needs to enter his/her mobile number and name. Thereafter, they will get an OTP which they have to enter. In return, Co-WIN will send a response to the verifying entity on the individual’s status of vaccination. CoWIN (Covid Vaccine Intelligence Work) is an Indian government web portal for COVID-19 vaccination registration, owned and operated by India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

National Forest Martyrs Day is marked on September 11. The day as the name suggests is observed to pay tributes to those who laid down their lives in order to protect the jungles, forests and wildlife across India. The day officially came into existence in 2013 after the Ministry of Environment and Forest made the declaration. The date of September 11 was chosen as on this date in 1730, the infamous Khejarli massacre took place. During this tragic incident, people started cutting Khejarli trees on the orders of the then king Maharaja Abhay Singh of Rajasthan. These trees were considered sacred by the people that belonged to the Bishnoi community in Rajasthan’s Khejarli village.

Shivani Meena, an IIT Jodhpur alumna, has become the first woman excavation engineer to work in an open cast mine at Coal India arm CCL (Central Coalfields Ltd). She will be posted at CCL’s Rajrappa project, one of the important enterprises of the coal mining behemoth. Until now the position belonged to men. The feat follows another milestone when Akanksha Kumari became Coal India’s first woman mining engineer to work in an underground mine at CCL’s Churi facility in North Karanpura area in Jharkhand.
