At the Tokyo Paralympic Games, the Indian contingent finished with a total of 19 medals which includes 5 gold, 8 silver, and 6 bronze medals. Out of the total 162 countries, India was ranked at 24th position and 20th in terms of number of medals.

This year, India had sent the largest contingent of 54 para-athletes, who participated in 9 sporting disciplines. This is also the highest ever medal haul of India.

Every year, 5th September is observed as the International Day of Charity. This day was so chosen, in memory of the death anniversary of Mother Teresa. This day aims to bridge the gap between the rich and poor and to meet the SDGs by 2030.

The resolution in this regard was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in the year 2012, which was co-sponsored by 44 UN member nations.

According to the Ladakh Resident Certificate Order 2021 passed on September 4, 2021, the Ladakh administration has decided to issue “Resident Certificate” only to Permanent Resident Certificate holders of the region unlike J&K, where new domicile laws allowed outsiders too to apply for jobs, land and other facilities.

Max Verstappen won the Formula One Dutch Grand Prix for Red Bull on September 5, 2021 at Zandvoort, Netherlands followed by Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas in second and third places respectively.

El Salvador has become the first country to adopt bitcoin as legal tender, although it suffered teething problems when the government had to unplug a digital wallet to cope with demand. President Nayib Bukele, who pushed for adoption of the cryptocurrency, said using bitcoin will help Salvadorans save $400 million a year on commissions for remittances, while giving access to financial services to those with no bank account.

Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh and Union Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the Emergency Landing Facility on a National Highway in Rajasthan. This emergency landing facility has been constructed on the Satta-Gandhav stretch of National Highway (NH) 925A in Barmer, Rajasthan. This is the first time a National Highway will be used for emergency landing of IAF aircraft.

Coal India Ltd. (CIL), under the Ministry of Coal has signed a MoU with the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Assam for strengthening the health infrastructure at the Silchar Medical College & Hospital, Silchar, the only Medical College and Hospital in Barak Valley Region, Assam. In this new CSR initiative, CIL will contribute Rs. 5 crores towards setting up of an ICU facility and medical gas pipeline in the Silchar Medical College & Hospital which will benefit over 40 lakh people of the State.

World EV Day is observed on September 9 every year. The day marks the celebration of e-mobility. Special awareness campaigns are organised globally to educate people about the benefits of electric vehicles. World EV Day was an initiative created by sustainability media company Green.TV. The first World EV day was observed in 2020.

British writer Susanna Clarke won the prestigious Women’s Prize for Fiction for her mind-tweaking fantasy novel ‘Piranesi’.  Clarke, 61, was awarded the 30,000 pounds ($41,000) prize for her novel.

Indian Army is all set to take part in ‘ZAPAD 2021’, a multi-nation military exercise being held at Nizhniy, Russia from 3rd to 16th September 2021. 200 personnel strong contingent of the Indian Army, primarily from the Naga Regiment will take part as an all ‘Arms Combined Task Force’ for the exercise, which is one of the theatre level exercises of the Russian armed forces. One of the main events is the Russian-Belarus strategic exercises which are being conducted from September 10-16 at nine sites.
