Zee Entertainment Enterprises is set to be merged with Sony Pictures Networks India. A sum of $1.57 billion would be infused into the capital of the merged entity by Sony. The merged entity would be India’s largest entertainment network with more than 25% total viewership in India.
The shareholding pattern of the merged entity between Zee and Sony would be 47:53. Punit Goenka – the present CEO of Zee Entertainment, would be the MD CEO of the merged entity.

Mumbai maintained its first position in the Emerging Ecosystems category in the ranking of international startup hubs. The rankings are compiled by Startup Genome for its annual Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2021.
London retained its second-place ranking tied with New York for the second year in a row. Bangalore was ranked at 23 globally and Delhi was placed at 36th. The report revealed that London is the most attractive destination to set up a tech start-up outside of Silicon Valley.

The state assembly of Karnataka has passed a bill to amend the Karnataka Police Act 1963, which seeks to ban online “Games of chance”. Under the bill, an online game of chance is defined as “any act or risking money, on the unknown result of an event”.
The bill has been passed by a voice vote. The bill does not prohibit online games that are “games of skill”.

India’s food regulator – Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has mandated that the industrially produced trans fats should be limited to less than 2% and make the country free from trans-fat, by 2022.
Recently FSSAI has stated that, only 1.34% of the newly tested processed food samples have shown breach of prescribed levels of industrially produced trans fats, which shows that India is on track to become Trans Fat free.

India’s 3-time World Cup gold medal-winning compound archer Abhishek Verma has been elected to World Archery’s athletes’ committee.
Reigning World Archery Champion Natalia Avdeeva of Russia and Abhishek Verma of India have been elected for a four-year term. 32-year-old Abhishek Verma, an Arjuna awardee, has won gold medals in the World Cups in Poland (2015) and Paris earlier this year.

MyGov India, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has launched the Planetarium Innovation Challenge for Indian start-ups and tech entrepreneurs
The challenge aims to encourage tech firms and Indian start-ups to build an indigenous planetariums system software using latest technologies like Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and Merged Reality (MR). The applicants may be Start-ups, Indian Entities or Individuals or Teams.

Notes:
La Palma is a volcanic ocean island group, and a part of the Canary Islands. With a population of over 83,000, it is also the fifth largest of the eight main Canary Islands.
The volcano on Spain’s La Palma has begun spewing lava and smoke again, after activity had earlier slowed to a near halt. Some coastal villages locked down anticipating the lava reaching the sea. The coastal areas of San Borondon, Marina Alta and Baja and La Condesa are locked, where the superheated lava is expected to hit the Atlantic Ocean, triggering clouds of toxic gas.

India’s Mars Orbiter spacecraft has completed seven years in its orbit, beyond its designed mission life of six months.
MOM or called as Mangalyaan, it is the maiden interplanetary mission of ISRO. After being launched on November 5, 2013, the probe was successfully inserted into Martian orbit on September 24, 2014 in its first attempt.  ISRO has been continuously monitoring the spacecraft and its five scientific instruments. The spacecraft is expected to have a mission life of probably another one year.

The results of the September 26th 2021 Federal Election results of Germany have been declared, in which Olaf Scholz’s centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) has claimed a very narrow victory. This election would select the new Chancellor for the country to replace Angela Merkel, who was in power since 2005.
In the election, no single party has won a clear majority and a coalition government would be formed.

India’s first toll-free helpline 14567 called ‘Elder Line’ was officially launched recently by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The Senior citizens can dial 14567 for information and guidance on legal, financial, health and social issues. It also aims to provide guidance, emotional support, and immediate assistance in cases of abuse. Already 17 States have opened the Elder Line and others are in the row.
