Notes:
The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is an international organization which conducts agricultural research for rural development. It is headquartered in Patancheru, Telangana in India, with several regional centers and research stations.
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and ICRISAT inked pact to take up research to improve food, nutrition security and livelihoods in the country, against the impacts of climate change.

Mumbai maintained its first position in the Emerging Ecosystems category in the ranking of international startup hubs. The rankings are compiled by Startup Genome for its annual Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2021.
London retained its second-place ranking tied with New York for the second year in a row. Bangalore was ranked at 23 globally and Delhi was placed at 36th. The report revealed that London is the most attractive destination to set up a tech start-up outside of Silicon Valley.

Kaza – located in the Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, has housed the world’s highest electric charging station.
This station has been set up by the company named “Go Ego”, which provides electric charging solutions and products. This station is set up at a height of 500 ft above the mean sea level. As a trial run, two electric scooters were charged at the station.

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has set up Odisha’s first ever Tussar silk yarn production centre at Choudwar in Cuttack district.
Tussar silk is one of the finest varieties of silk, known for its coarseness and porous weave. Silk comprises nearly 75% of the total khadi fabric production in Odisha. Set up at a cost of ₹75 lakh, the silk yarn production centre is capable of producing 200 kg of silk yarn worth ₹94 lakh annually.

Notes:
The Chennai Central Railway Station of Indian Railways, also known as the Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station, has become a fully solar powered station. The station meets all its energy requirements by way of solar panels installed on the rooftop.
The station has an installed capacity of 1.5 MW solar power and has become an energy neutral railway station.

La Palma is a volcanic ocean island group, and a part of the Canary Islands. With a population of over 83,000, it is also the fifth largest of the eight main Canary Islands.
The volcano on Spain’s La Palma has begun spewing lava and smoke again, after activity had earlier slowed to a near halt. Some coastal villages locked down anticipating the lava reaching the sea. The coastal areas of San Borondon, Marina Alta and Baja and La Condesa are locked, where the superheated lava is expected to hit the Atlantic Ocean, triggering clouds of toxic gas.

Tai-Ahom and Matak communities are demanding for being accorded the Scheduled Tribe (ST) status in the state of Assam.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held discussions with representatives of the two communities regarding their demand. All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS), the apex tribal body of the State, is authorised by the government to recommend issuing ST certificates in the State. Besides the two, tea tribes, Koch-Rajbonshi, Moran and Chutia communities are also demanding ST status.

Kerala has emerged as the fifth Asian Ecosystem in Affordable Talent in the 2021 Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER).
The report was prepared by Startup Genome and the Global Entrepreneurship Network and was globally launched recently. The 2021 Report, which ranks the top 140 ecosystems across the world, based on 7 parameters- performance, funding, connectedness, market reach, resource attraction, experience and talent.

India’s Mars Orbiter spacecraft has completed seven years in its orbit, beyond its designed mission life of six months.
MOM or called as Mangalyaan, it is the maiden interplanetary mission of ISRO. After being launched on November 5, 2013, the probe was successfully inserted into Martian orbit on September 24, 2014 in its first attempt.  ISRO has been continuously monitoring the spacecraft and its five scientific instruments. The spacecraft is expected to have a mission life of probably another one year.

The National Institute of Biotic Stress Tolerance is a Deemed University under the ICAR is located at Raipur. This institution came into existence in 2012.
This institution is in news recently, as the new campus of the institution at Raipur was dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the event, the PM also dedicated 35 climate resilient crop varieties.
