Notes:
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India has revised and eased the rules pertaining to storage and handling of ammonium nitrate and calcium carbide, for improved safety.
This revision comes at the backdrop of the deadly Beirut (capital of Lebanon) explosion which occurred due to storage of 3,000 tons of ammonium nitrate at the port for 6 years.

Notes:
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) released a report titled ‘Fed to Fail? The Crisis of Children’s Diets in Early Life’.
As per the report, only half of children aged 6-23 months are being fed the minimum recommended number of meals a day. Only a third consume the minimum number of food groups they need to prosper. It also revealed that COVID-19 pandemic could worsen the situation.

Notes:
The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has designed and developed indigenously, a charger for electric vehicles, named AC001. This is taken up for large scale manufacturing by Bharat Electronics.
Presently most of the charging components for electric vehicles are imported. The indigenous development and manufacturing of these components would boost electric mobility in India.

The 5-day ‘First Himalayan Film Festival’ has been inaugurated recently at Leh in the Union Territory of Ladakh by Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur.
The five-day festival is being held from September 24-28, 2021 as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. The festival is being organised by the administration of UT of Ladakh in collaboration with the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. It is being hosted in collaboration with the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh

Mount Elbrus, located in Russia’s North Caucasus, is the highest mountain Europe at 5,642 metres (18,510 feet). It is the highest stratovolcano in Eurasia, and also the tenth-most prominent peak in the world.
Recently, five climbers died after facing an unprecedented storm on Mount Elbrus, as per the Russia’s Emergencies Ministry. A group of 19 climbers were at an altitude of over 5,000 metres.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur inaugurated high power transmitters (HPT) at world’s highest radio station at Humbatingla in Kargil.
They are located at an altitude of 13 thousand 300 feet from mean sea level. Each 10kW HPT of All India Radio FM radio station and Doordarshan will improve the transmission in the region especially in Kargil and Batalik sectors.

The first in-person meeting of Quad leaders was recently hosted by US President Joe Biden at Washington D.C. Prime Minister of India Modi and his counterparts Scott Morrison from Australia and Yoshihide Suga from Japan gathered in the city for the meeting.
In 2017, India, Japan, the US and Australia formed the alliance, named QUAD. It aimed to keep the critical sea routes in the Indo-Pacific free of any influence, especially from China. Before Quad summit, Prime Minister Modi separately met his Australian and Japanese counterparts.

Sania Mirza, along with her Chinese pair Shuai Zhang won the final match of the Ostrava Open WTA 500 tournament in Czech Republic.
The second seeded pair won the match against the third seeds in straight sets- 6-3, 6-2. It was Sania Mirza’s 43rd WTA doubles title on the tour. It was also Sania’s first title of 2021 and her first big title since Brisbane in 2017. The Indian player had reached the final of WTA 250 Cleveland event last month.

NASA has launched a satellite named ‘Landsat 9’, built to monitor the Earth’s land surface. It was successfully launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
As a joint mission with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Landsat 9 lifted off on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket. Norway’s Svalbard satellite-monitoring ground station acquired signals from the spacecraft about 83 minutes after launch. Landsat 9 is travelling to its final orbital altitude of 705 kilometers.

Notes:
The Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) will be dissolved from 1st October 2021 and will be converted into seven new public sector units.
All the assets including the 41 factories and its employees of the Ordnance Factory Board would be transferred to the new PSUs namely Munitions India Ltd, Armoured Vehicles Nigam Ltd, Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Ltd, Troop Comforts Ltd, Yantra India Ltd, India Optel Ltd and Gliders India Ltd.
