Notes:
India’s largest open-air fernery has been inaugurated in Uttarakhand’s Ranikhet. The fernery is home to a large number of fern species, some of which are endemic to the state, some hold medicinal value while some are threatened species that demand care and conservation. This center has been developed for conservation of fern species and also to create awareness about their ecological role and promote further research. The newly inaugurated fernery is one of the biggest ferneries in India. The fernery has the largest collection of fern species, second to only Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute (TBGRI), Thiruvananthapuram. However, it is the country’s first open-air fernery in natural surroundings which is not under any poly-house/ shade house.

World First Aid Day is observed on the second Saturday of September annually. So, this year the day was celebrated on 11 September across the globe. The special day is marked to encourage people in first aid training which helps in preventing injuries and saving lives in critical situations. The theme for World First Aid Day 2021 is ‘First aid and road safety,’ according to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) has enabled the country’s first FASTag-based metro parking facility in partnership with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). As an acquiring bank for the parking facility at the Kashmere Gate metro station, PPBL will facilitate the processing of all FASTag based transactions for cars having a valid FASTag sticker, thus eliminating the hassle of stopping and paying cash at the counter.

Samantha Stosur of Australia and Zhang Shuai of China won their 11th straight match to triumph in the US Open women’s doubles final over American teenagers Coco Gauff and Caty McNally at Flushing Meadows. The No. 14-seeded Australian-Chinese duo paired up to win their second Grand Slam women’s doubles title as a team with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over the 11th-seeded American teenagers.

A joint venture company will be formed by the Assam government and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) for the promotion of the dairy sector in the state. The company would be formed to expedite the economic development of the milk farmers and make the dairy sector more commercially viable.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University in Aligarh. The university is being established by the Uttar Pradesh government in the memory and honour of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh, freedom fighter, educationist and social reformer. The university will provide affiliation to 395 colleges of the Aligarh division.

Every year the World Lymphoma Awareness Day (WLAD) is observed globally on September 15. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about lymphoma and the particular psychosocial and emotional challenges which are faced by patients and caregivers who are suffering from different forms of lymphoma.

An Israeli defense contractor has unveiled a remote-controlled armed robot that can patrol battle zones, track infiltrators and open fire. The unmanned vehicle is the latest addition to the world of drone technology, which is rapidly reshaping the modern battlefield. The four-wheel-drive was developed by the state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries’ REX MKII. The robot can gather intelligence for ground troops, carry injured soldiers and supplies in and out of battle, and strike nearby targets.

US President Joe Biden administration has announced a new trilateral security partnership for the Indo-pacific. Security partnership was done between Australia, United Kingdom and United States. This security grouping called AUKUS, will focus towards advancing strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific region. The central feature of this partnership comprises of a trilateral 18-month effort in order to help Australia in acquiring nuclear powered submarines which are quieter, more capable as compared to their conventional counterparts. Such submarines can be deployed for longer periods and needing to surface less frequently. These are nuclear powered submarines and not armed with nuclear weapons. AUKUS will also involve a new architecture of meeting and engagements between three countries. It also involves the cooperation across emerging technologies like AI, quantum technologies as well as undersea capabilities.

Union Minister of State (MoS) for information & technology and skill development, Rajeev Chandrasekhar inaugurated the Software Technology Park of India (STPI) at Kohima, Nagaland. This is the 61st centre of the STPI and first in Nagaland. The STPI is a science and technology organization established in 1991 by the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
