Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University in Aligarh. The university is being established by the Uttar Pradesh government in the memory and honour of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh, freedom fighter, educationist and social reformer. The university will provide affiliation to 395 colleges of the Aligarh division.

Indian researchers from IIT Hyderabad have fabricated paper honeycomb and stronger polymer honeycomb structures as sound-absorbing panels that dissipate acoustic energy to low-frequency ranges. The technology can be utilized in building acoustics and for noise management in the environment. Due to the wall dampening property, this vibration energy is dissipated in the form of heat. Engineering a solution that mimics this feature could be a cost-effective way to reduce noise pollution. Using bio mimetic design methodology, Dr. B. Venkatesham and Dr. Surya, faculty at IIT Hyderabad’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, developed low thickness and strong acoustic panels that mimicked this feature. Understanding the physics of bee hive sample acoustic energy dissipation and then mimicking the design is part of the design methodology.

NITI Aayog, with US-based RMI (Rocky Mountain Institute) and RMI India’s support, launched Shoonya—an initiative to promote zero-pollution delivery vehicles by working with consumers and industry. The campaign aims to accelerate adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the urban deliveries segment and create consumer awareness about the benefits of zero-pollution delivery. Industry stakeholders such as e-commerce companies, fleet aggregators, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and logistics companies have been scaling up their efforts towards final-mile delivery electrification.

The Union Cabinet gave a nod to a production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the automobile industry to boost production as well as give a push to the sector. The scheme will incentivise the emergence of Advanced Automotive Technologies global supply chain in India. Incentives worth Rs 26,058 crore will be provided to the automobile sector to increase the production of components like cars, auto parts, and other related products in India. This scheme has a budgetary provision of Rs 26,058 crores – Rs 25,938 crores for the auto sector and Rs 120 crores for the drone industry.

Microsoft India has launched the Future Ready Talent programme, bringing together a strategic group of partners to empower India’s youth with technology skills for employability. It is a collaborative internship programme for students in their second year of college and upwards, the initiative aims to impact over 1.5 lakh higher education students who will join the workforce between 2022 and 2024. Under this programme, the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), FutureSkills Prime, Ernst & Young (EY), GitHub, and Quess Corp along with Microsoft will provide a holistic skilling platform, connecting talent to opportunity. Microsoft will provide learning modules and certifications through its learning platform, Microsoft Learn, skilling students on topics like cloud computing, data & Artificial Intelligence, and cyber security. AICTE will ensure the curriculum is aligned to the National Education Policy, 2020.

Flipkart and the Indian Naval Placement Agency (INPA) signed a memorandum of understanding in which the two companies will review opportunities to recruit naval veterans with the Flipkart Group. Through the memorandum of understanding, INPA will identify a group of Ex-servicemen candidates for relevant positions in accordance with Flipkart’s recruitment standards. In turn, the company will enable these people to transition to the corporate sector through internal assimilation and training programs.

The Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) to install public charging stations for electric vehicles in Punjab. ESL is a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL). ESL is a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL). Through cooperation with PEDA, CESL plans to expand its electric vehicles product portfolio. Additionally, CESL will provide convenient and affordable charging infrastructure in the state.

Recently, “Together for a Shared Future” was revealed as the official motto of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics by the organizing team. This motto represents the strength of the Olympic Games to overcome global challenges as a community, with a common future for humankind. The Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing, China from February 4 to 20, 2022.

Annually, on 18 September the World Bamboo Day is observed globally. The purpose of this day is to raise the world’s awareness of the protection and promotion of the bamboo industry and bamboo plantations. This special day was celebrated by the World Bamboo Organisation (WBO), which aims to protect natural resources and the entire environment. The organization also intends to ensure the sustainable use of bamboo and promote traditional uses for the economic development of local communities. The message for World Bamboo Day 2021 is “#PlantBamboo: It is time to Plant Bamboo.” WBO also launched new hashtag #PlantBamboo.
