India and Nepal on 20th September has begun a 15-day military exercise in Pithoragarh located in the state of Uttarakhand with a focus on counter-terror drills and disaster relief operations. The 15th India-Nepal military training exercise is named ‘Surya Kiran’ and it is being held to boost inter-operability between the two militaries.

Notes:
Ukraine began joint military exercises with the United States and other NATO forces on September 20, 2021. This military exercise is being conducted at that time during which neighbouring countries Russia and Belarus were conducting large-scale exercises, which aroused the vigilance of the West. The Rapid Trident 2021 exercise will continue until October 1.

Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, released Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)’s third state food safety index (SFSI). The index measures the performance of States across five parameters of food safety.

In this year, Gujarat was the highest ranked state among the larger states, followed by Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Among the smaller states, Goa stood first followed by Meghalaya and Manipur. Among UTs, Jammu and Kashmir, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and New Delhi topped the index.

The e-Shram portal is India’s first national database on unorganised workers. The portal came into being after the Supreme Court directed the Government to complete the registration process of unorganized workers.

Over 1 crore registered on e-shram portal. 68% of those registrations were done through Common Service Centres (CSC). The workers can also register themselves in this portal via State Seva Kendra, Labour Facilitation Centres, selected post offices of the Department of Posts’ Digital Seva Kendras.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to implement the Forest Rights Act, 2006. It is expected to elevate the socio-economic status of majority of the tribals and nomadic communities, who form a 14-lakh-strong population.

The tribal communities in the Union Territory include Gujjar-Bakerwals and Gaddi-Sippis. After a wait of more than 14 years, the rights have been conferred upon the tribal community.

The 6th Edition of SCO Exercise Peaceful Mission 2021 hosted by Russia started at Orenburg Region of South West Russia. The aim of the exercise is to promote close relations between SCO Member States and to enhance abilities of the leaders to command military contingents.
An Indian military contingent with all arms combined force of 200 personnel from Indian Army and Indian Air force is participating in the exercise. The Exercise is based on joint counter terrorism operations at operational and tactical level in an urban environment.

The National Science Foundation’s Green Bank Observatory (GBO) along with other partners have released a new high-resolution image of the Moon. This is the best-ever image taken from the ground using new radar technology on the Green Bank Telescope (GBT).
The resolution of the new Tycho Crater image contains approximately 1.4 billion pixels. The image covers an area of 200km by 175km. The entire crater, which measures 86km in diameter, has been captured.

The Union Power Ministry has issued an order for setting up district-level committees that will oversee all power-related schemes of the Union Government.
This aims to improve quality of electricity supply in the country. The Committees shall exercise oversight over all power related schemes of Government of India. It will comprise M.Ps in the district, District Collector, representatives of the district panchayat, MLAs, representatives of state-run firms of ministries of power and new and renewable energy, SE of DISCOM among others.

Every year, the United Nations observe 21st September as the International Day of Peace. A unanimous resolution in this regard was passed in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2001 and the day is being observed since 2002.
The theme for this year’s International Day of Peace is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world” to signify that the world is healing from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Intergovernmental Group of 24 on International Monetary Affairs and Development, or the Group of 24 was established in 1971 at Lima, Peru. It is headquartered at Washington D.C. It is a chapter of G-77, to coordinate developing countries on monetary and development finance issues.
India, along with other Group of 24 (G24) member countries, has objected to the withdrawal of measures like the Equalisation levy (EL). India is worried that the proposed global digital tax deal covering only top 100 companies may not lead to sufficient revenue for developing countries.
