Ministry of Tribal Affairs intends to establish a National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI) at Delhi to act as body of knowledge & research and as a think tank for tribal development with no proposal for collaboration with NGOs is under consideration of the Ministry. The National Tribal Research Institute will envisages to serve the purpose of mentoring and hand holding support to Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) located in various States, and to ensure quality and uniformity in research works, evaluation studies, training, awareness generation among tribals, showcasing of rich tribal heritage including languages, habitats and cultivation and production practices such as cloth weaving etc.

Uttar Pradesh is soon going to launch ‘Operation Durachari” to check crime against women and to put posters of habitual offenders in cases of sex-related crimes on road crossing in Uttar Pradesh.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has recently test-fired Prithvi-II, the surface-to-surface missile.
This exercise has been undertaken as a part of User trial by the Indian Army, from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur base in Odisha. The missile was randomly chosen from the production stock by the Army and was monitored by DRDO Scientists.

Global automobile manufacturer Harley-Davidson Inc has recently announced that it would discontinue its sales and manufacturing operations in India.
Harley-Davidson has been recently trying to move its dealerships in the country to other cheaper locations. It has also closed its Bawal plant and will incur USD 75 million in restructuring costs. The company made about 17 million bike and scooter sales a year in India.

The Reserve Bank of India has given in-principle approval to Vakrangee for setting up Bharat Bill Payment Operating Unit (BBPOU).
The approval has been granted as per the provisions contained in Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007. Vakrangee can now handle payment and aggregation of payment services relating to bills under BBPS.

The markets regulator SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) has imposed a fine of Rs.1 crore on Rana Kapoor. He is the former MD& CEO of Yes Bank. He has been penalized for non-disclosure of encumbrance on the bank’s shares.
The issue pertains to a transaction of Morgan Credits Pvt Ltd – an unlisted promoter entity of Yes Bank, which raised a sum of Rs.950 crore from Reliance Mutual Fund using Zero Coupon Non-Convertible Debentures.

Vodafone has won an arbitration case against the Government of India at the International Arbitration Tribunal, Hague.
The tribunal held that Indian Government’s tax imposition on Vodafone, including interest and penalties were in a breach of an investment treaty agreement between India and the Netherlands. India had claimed a total of Rs 279 billion (USD 3.79 billion) including about $2 billion as tax, interest and penalties.

Notes:
A rare species of butterfly named the ‘Branded Royal’, was recently spotted in the Nilgiris, along the slopes of Kotagiri.
The butterfly was previously documented in the Nilgiris in the year 1888 by G.F. Hampson. There is only one such record about the butterfly in Tamil Nadu. The Branded Royal (Tajuria melastigma) is a species of lycaenid.

Former Union Minister of India and one of the founding members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jaswant Singh passed away at the age of 82.
During his three-decade long political career, the leader had held several positions including Union minister for Defence and External affairs. He also served as the Minister for Electronics and Minister for surface transport.

The World Health Organisation has been observing September 28 as World Rabies Day, across the world.
It is observed annually to raise awareness about the prevention of Rabies disease and to focus on the progress in defeating this disease. It also commemorates the death anniversary of Louis Pasteur, who developed the first Rabies vaccine.
