The Reserve Bank had launched its first global hackathon – “Harbinger 2021 – Innovation for Transformation” with the theme ‘Smarter Digital Payments’ in November 2021.
It was organised to encourage entrepreneurs to suggest innovative solutions for smarter digital payments. Tone Tag has been declared the winner in two categories in the RBI’s first global hackathon Harbinger 2021. napID Cybersec and TrustCheckr were the winners of the other two categories.

Notes:
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated National Tribal Research Institute in New Delhi as part of the celebrations of the Azadi Ka Amrit festival.
The National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI) will provide the tribal communities with necessary resources. NTRI will also provide policy inputs to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and State Welfare Departments for programs and studies that support the socio-economic aspects of the tribes.

Notes:
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to monetise highway stretches to the extent of 1,750 km in the year 2022-23.
This asset monetisation move would help NHAI raise around Rs 20,000 crore. It has also prepared a list of road assets to be monetised in the current fiscal from different parts of the country. NHAI’s debt burden stood at worrisome Rs 3.5 trillion at the end of last financial year.

The United Nations designated June 8 as World Ocean Day to raise awareness about how to save the oceans and sustainably use them in the future.
The theme for World Ocean Day 2022 is ‘Revitalisation: Collective Action for the Ocean’. This year’s theme focuses on how to not only stop harming the ocean but on actions to be taken in order to restore the oceans through collective efforts.

Earth Science Minister Dr Jitendra Singh announced that India will launch the first Human Space Mission ‘Gaganyaan’ as well as the first Human Ocean Mission in the second half of 2023.
Addressing the World Oceans Day celebrations in New Delhi, The Minister also said that the government will soon unveil the Blue Economic Policy and around 40 million people will be employed by ocean-based industries by 2030.

The 2nd edition of ‘Awards for Excellence in District Skill Development Planning’ (DSDP) was organised in New Delhi, by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
Top 30 districts were awarded for their innovative best practices in skill development in the region. Rajkot in Gujarat, Cachar in Assam and Satara in Maharashtra respectively were ranked at the top. DSDP Awards were instituted under the Skill Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP) Scheme.

Enhanced Access and Service Excellence-EASE 5.0 ‘Common reforms agenda’ of EASE Next program was recently launched by the Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman.
They have been developed for reforms in Public Sector Banks. PSB Manthan, 2022 unveiled the EASENext program, which would comprise 2 major initiatives namely EASE 5.0 reforms agenda and Bank specific strategic 3-year roadmap, based on individual bank’s business priorities.

A study by scientists from the University of Queensland, Australia, has found that superworms, the larvae of Zophobas Morio darkling beetles, can consume Polystyrene- the most common forms of plastic.
The study found that the gut enzymes of these worms could become the key to higher plastic recycling rates.

The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment is functional in Guangdong, China. It is situated at Daya Bay, approximately 52 kilometers northeast of Hong Kong.
The multinational collaboration includes researchers from China, Chile, the United States, Taiwan, Russia, and the Czech Republic. The detectors pick up light signals generated by antineutrinos streaming from nearby nuclear power plants.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the National Museum of Customs and GST ‘Dharohar’ in Goa.
It was inaugurated as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Iconic week of the Ministry of Finance. The Finance Minister removed the golden sand from single piece of rock art installed at the heritage ‘Blue building’, which was earlier known as Alfandega, during the period of Portuguese rule in Goa. Dharohar Museum also houses a ‘GST Gallery’.
