Ace woman cricketer Mithali Raj recently announced her retirement from all forms of Cricket. The 39-year-old player is the first and only woman cricketer in the world to appear in six World Cups so far.
She joined the list of Sachin Tendulkar and Pakistan’s Javed Miandad recently, for this feat. Her tally of 7,805 runs from 232 ODIs is the highest in the women’s ODI game. She is also the long-serving India captain with a total of 10,868 runs, a women’s cricket record.

The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) announced the country’s first national air sports policy (NASP 2022).
The policy will cover air sports such as aerobatics, aero-modelling, model rocketry, ballooning, drones, gliding and powered gliding, hang-gliding, parachuting, paragliding and para-motoring, powered aircraft and rotorcraft. The Air Sports Federation of India (ASFI) is the apex governing body for this initiative.

India and Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on mutual logistics support, during the ongoing visit of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to the Southeast Asian country.
The Defence Ministers also signed the ‘Joint Vision Statement on India-Vietnam Defence Partnership towards 2030’, which will enhance the scope and scale of existing defence cooperation.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched an accidental insurance cover of Rs 15 lakh for government employees in the Union territory.
Jammu and Kashmir Bank will extend the new insurance cover which also includes terrorism attacks. The free group personal insurance cover is extended to all permanent employees in association with the Oriental Insurance Company. The LG also launched the Jammu and Kashmir Bank’s ‘Phone Pe Loan’ facility for government employees.

The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment is functional in Guangdong, China. It is situated at Daya Bay, approximately 52 kilometers northeast of Hong Kong.
The multinational collaboration includes researchers from China, Chile, the United States, Taiwan, Russia, and the Czech Republic. The detectors pick up light signals generated by antineutrinos streaming from nearby nuclear power plants.

China has released the most detailed Geological map of the Moon, which has details of craters and structures not charted before.
The United States Geological Survey had mapped and classified the entire lunar surface in collaboration with NASA in 2020. However, this map registers finer details than the US Map. The new comprehensive geologic map of the moon has a scale of 1:2500000.

World Day Against Child Labour is marked every year on 12 June across the world. The day aims to raise awareness about the exploitation of children who are engaged in child labour.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) declared the World Day Against Child Labour in the year 2002. The theme for this year is “Universal Social Protection to End Child Labour”.

Canada is set to become the first country in the world to require that a warning be printed on every cigarette.
The move adds on Canada’s mandate to include graphic photo warnings on the packaging of tobacco products. This policy of Canada started an international trend when it was introduced two decades ago.

Retail inflation based on Consumer Price Index eased to 7.04 per cent in May from 7.79 per cent in April this year.
As per the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation data, inflation slipped mainly due to easing prices in Food & Beverages and Fuel & light sections. Food & Beverages have a weight of more than 54 percent in Consumer Price Index.

The Ministry of Defence launched ‘Agnipath’ a major defence policy reform for recruitment of soldiers, sailors and airmen into the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.
The personnel recruited under the scheme on short-term contractual basis will be called Agniveers. . Of the 50,000 recruited annually, 25 per cent will be allowed to continue for 15 years under permanent commission, to reduce the defence pension bill. 30 percent of monthly salary of Agniveers will be set aside, along with equal government contribution under Seva Nidhi programme.
