People in India’s north-eastern state of Assam celebrate a spring festival named ‘Baikho festival’.
It is predominantly observed by the people of Assam every year in June. The festival is meant to bring an auspicious harvest season with abundant crops and good health.

Indian Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu launched India-Qatar Start-Up bridge, a joint initiative to link the start-up ecosystems of the two countries and boost the business sectors mutually.The Vice President launched the bridge while addressing the India-Qatar Business Forum, jointly organised by FICCI, CII and ASSOCHAM, along with Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decided to hike the Policy Repo Rate by 50 basis points to 4.9 per cent in its June 2022 meeting.
The MPC members voted unanimously to hike rates and to continue the withdrawal of the accommodative stance. RBI’s MPC last month raised the repo rate by 40 basis points. Real GDP forecast for FY23 has been retained at 7.2% while inflation projection was revised for FY23 to 6.7 %.

The annual Mata Kheer Bhawani Mela started at the famous Ragnya Devi temple in Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir.
The Tullmulla shrine is also the symbol of centuries-old culture and brotherhood among different communities of Kashmir. The Mela is being celebrated after two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) signed an MOU with three nationalised banks and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) for providing financial assistance to investors willing to set up units in the Defence Industrial Corridor.
The State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank are the three banks, which would provide financial assistance to investors in six nodes of the Defence Corridor.

The Union Government has launched the Rashtriya Puruskar Portal for inviting nominations for various awards of the various Ministries and agencies.
The portal aims to ensure transparency and public partnership and to bring together all the awards under one digital platform. Nominations for Padma Awards are open till September 15, 2022 and for Sardar Patel National Unity Awards till the 31st July.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved a proposal for signing a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on cooperation in the field of industries and advanced technologies.
The MoU will lead to growth of these sectors, increased domestic production, enhanced exports and reduction in imports.

Ramkrishna Mukkavilli, the head of Hyderabad-based startup Maithri Aquatech, has been selected as Global SDG Pioneer by the UN Global Compact Network (UNGC).
He is the first Indian to be recognised by the UNGC as one of the 10 new SDG Pioneers for 2022. He was previously selected as India’s SDG Pioneer by the UN Global Compact Network India. Using ‘atmospheric water generation’, his company generated 100 million litres of fresh water from air.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched an accidental insurance cover of Rs 15 lakh for government employees in the Union territory.
Jammu and Kashmir Bank will extend the new insurance cover which also includes terrorism attacks. The free group personal insurance cover is extended to all permanent employees in association with the Oriental Insurance Company. The LG also launched the Jammu and Kashmir Bank’s ‘Phone Pe Loan’ facility for government employees.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin unveiled the mascot and the logo named ‘Thambi’ for 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad.
‘Thambi’ in Tamil means younger brother. The international event will be held at Mamallapuram near Chennai and over two thousand players from 186 countries will take part in the event.
