Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami won from the Champawat bypoll by a margin of over 55,000 votes.
He had earlier lost from Khatima assembly constituency in the Uttarakhand Assembly Polls 2022 even though BJP won a clear majority in the state. This was a crucial victory for the Chief Minister to win the bypoll to retain the Chief Minister post.

World Number One Iga Swiatek of Poland won the French Open 2022 Women’s Singles Title by beating US teenager Coco Gauf
The 21-year ols clinched her second title in three years in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 over Gauff. She is the youngest player ranked in the top ten. Iga was the 2020 French Open champion and is the first player representing Poland to win a Grand Slam singles title.

National Cadet Corps (NCC) has launched the recent phase of its nationwide flagship campaign ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan’ from May 30 to June 5 2022 (the World Environment Day).
Puneet Sagar Abhiyan was launched by NCC to clean Sea Shores and other water bodies including rivers and lakes, of plastic and other waste. It aims to increase awareness among the local population about importance of keeping the beaches and river fronts clean.

Ace Tennis player Rafael Nadal won the final match to beat Casper Ruud and claim his 14th French Open Men’s single title.
With this victory, Nadal claimed his 14th championship at Roland Garros and 22nd Grand Slam title overall. He is two titles ahead of rivals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. French Open is a Grand Slam tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France.

A multinational peacekeeping exercise- Ex Khaan Quest 2022 commenced recently in Mongolia. Military contingents from 16 countries including India are participating in the exercise.
As per India’s Defence Ministry, Indian Army is represented by a contingent from the Ladakh Scouts. The 14-day exercise will enhance the level of defence co-operation among participating countries.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has published a fresh draft of amendments to the Information Technology Rules, 2021.
The draft proposes to create government-appointed appeal committees that will be empowered to review and reverse content moderation decisions taken by social media companies like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

The Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble gases, Chemistry, and Imaging (DAVINCI) is a mission of American space agency NASA.
The Mission is on course to study the planet Venus in 2029 to understand its chemical composition and whether humans can inhabit it. DAVINCI will be the first mission to Venus to incorporate fly-bys, analyse Venus’ temperature and atmosphere.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed 10 public safety-related bills prohibiting New Yorkers under the age 21 from buying semi-automatic rifles.
With this, New York is the first state to enact a major gun control initiative following a row of deadly mass shootings. The public safety-related bills include one that will require micro-stamping in new firearms, which could help law enforcement in solving gun-related crimes.

India and Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on mutual logistics support, during the ongoing visit of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to the Southeast Asian country.
The Defence Ministers also signed the ‘Joint Vision Statement on India-Vietnam Defence Partnership towards 2030’, which will enhance the scope and scale of existing defence cooperation.

The annual Mata Kheer Bhawani Mela started at the famous Ragnya Devi temple in Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir.
The Tullmulla shrine is also the symbol of centuries-old culture and brotherhood among different communities of Kashmir. The Mela is being celebrated after two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
